I wish someone would put these recent comments first! It's great to see right away that these fantastic k d lang shows are still be watched here on UA-cam NOW! When it comes to k d lang, she is my HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still coming back to this vid because it's the best version! Just heard it again tonight on Olympics figure skating. Click on "Sort by" at the top of the comments to view newest comments first :)
what a goddess...i first saw her in 1986-87 or so...santa cruz, california...and followed her magnificent journey ever since. k.d. lang is a gift to our time. i am humbled every time i see her and hear her.
I was there!! what a night! she took the roof off of Royce hall when she sag this song. k.d. has been my favorite artist from back in the recline days, and I've watched her evolve. and continue to do so. she is so obviously at peace with herself, and her place in this world. finding her Buddhist teacher, some years ago, has had quite an effect on this woman. she really does exude peace. but at her core, she has the same sharp intellect, and wit. she is very, very funny! what a night, what a performance!! here's to you k.d. I hope you'll continue to sing for us for years to come. and just cause I can't help myself; i'm really ready for a new album. sooo hoping she drops one soon! much love-
+Anne Mooney Thanks for sharing your experience- Ciao from a buddhist Italian woman- I didn't know about her faith- I've always loved her voice and all of her songs- And what about her smile? Enchanting!
I agree with everything you’ve said, but I do think her days of performing are over. Sad for her fans. But I think her beautiful soul is continuing to evolve. Good for her and also for everyone who love and follow her. Bless you k.d. lang.
What a MAGNIFICENT artist she is! Every performance she gives of this legendary song is different, and every one feels like she's wresting it from the deepest part of her soul. She's peerless. I would love to have the opportunity to meet her one day and tell her so.
The way K. D. Sings this beautiful song gives some comfort to the helplessness many feel right now. She is the song and the song is her. The beautiful piano backing her up adds a kind of mournfulness but at the same time, strength. For a few moments we can forget the darkness we are in.
God bless you k.d. Lang, there's no better alive today, who can sing that song better than yourself. You never fail to bring me to church every time you sing this song! Thank you for sharing your many blessings of talent with this world. "I love you, beautiful!"
Her very best version .. When she sang at the induction of Leonard Cohen to the music and songwriters Hall of fame. She walked to him in the front row at the end. They embraced and exchanged very deserved compliments to each other. ! Watch it...the clarity and tempo she gave that night was beyond compare. She is the best no matter. He acknowledged her as such! Very special indeed. It's classic k.d. Lang at her very best.
Lori Here, There are a couple of versions of KD Lang’s “Hallelujah” on UA-cam. I love all of them. A fine one is when Leonard Cohen is in the audience when she sings his song and the reaction between the two of them at the end of her performance is beautiful, like two old soles coming together. It was so moving. I watch her sing “Hallelujah” a lot these days and I’m not a religious person, but it comforts me
@@olgatchutkova6313 I don't entirely agree. Leonard Cohen was one of the few poets in the modern age certainly the only one with his traditional Jewish upbringing and knowledge of scripture--who threaded together the images of sexual love and religion. His poetry is very much like the Metaphysical Poets of the 17th century (John Donne). With our modern passion for categorizing and separating everything, we have lost this sense of wholeness. Cohen is writing about passion--whethere in the bedroom or at temple or church. Passion is passion. And there is an even larger theme than passion and the interwoven threads of God and Sex, and that is the tightly knit skeins of pain and joy, fullness and loss. Cohen is saying that things will always be "cold and broken," but, by god, there will always be a Hallelujah.
KD Completely "gets" this song about the sweetness of love and the utter anguish of love. Her beautiful and emotional voice totally "gets" me every time. Could be a tie between Leonard and KD for me.
Yes, she does. And that was Leonard Cohen great insight and the brilliance of his poetry sing well before he was a songster--not just the sweetness and anguish of love, but of life itself. It is always cold and broken, and there is always always the hallelujah. This is a man who suffered from paralyzing depression and then spent five years studying to become a Buddhist monk.
K.D Lang, I think you are wonderful I saw you live last time you were in Australia I have followed you from the start you have been my inspiration with my music. I have sung Hallelujah many times for big crowds and always had them on there feet wanting more. I thankyou so much for being not only the artist you are but also the person. You have helped me in many ways through your music and helped me evolve into the singer I am today. I love you so much for everything and I thank you.
i wasn't there but wished i could be. i appreciate this video and all the comments, photos and videos from those lucky to be there. love k.d.'s sense of humor along with her voice.
I’ve never had the gift of being at one of her performances. And don’t think I will in the future as I do believe she’s retired. But I love her and her beautiful voice just the same. And wish her well in whatever the future brings. 😘
Had the pleasure of seeing K D Lang in Oakland in the '90s, and she still has the same wonderful voice and passion. Love it. What a privilege to see her performance now via You Tube. K.D. you are great!
I have never seen her, but I have been a Leonard Cohen groupie since I was a Freshman in college in 1963 (and everyone else was panting around after Dylan). What a pair they make, coming together with his words and her voice and both their beautiful Buddhist souls.
@@DeanRobertson1946 ....I was also a fan of Leonard Cohen and wrote a lot of poetry myself plus published other poets from all over the world in my book called NEW VOICES, which I created while I returned to College in my 40's and eventually got my Master's in Psychology. Now, in my retirement years, I am grateful for UA-cam and k d lang, who I admit to having a CONSTANT CRAVING for her singing.
@@lorihere7946 I'm so glad to have this conversation continuing. Thank you. I agree with a comment made here 4 years ago by 08alexnyc. She has become the song. It's hard to even grasp the beauty of this, or of any of her performances of the song, because there's almost too much--her voice, the words of the poem, what we know of Cohen's tortured soul, her looks, and all of it together literally take my breath away. And oh how badly we need passion and loveliness in this time of plague and isolation. Again, thank you, Lori.
kd lang sings every song as if it was her last. She gives her all into every song. And her voice is beautifully clear compared to a lot of female singers. It remains clear even during those climax parts which is rare. And kd's voice sounds like it doesn't require any instrumental accompaniment. Itself is musical and rhythmic. Just listen to her singing alone and try to cut off the piano.
God love You tube for bring you to our part of the world............love always Australia....(especially Suz Simpson on the G.Coast).....free bed and breakfast if you ever want a freebie stay away..........lol

Damn!!! I can't get enough of this! This just takes me away! Thank you K.D.! ❤
Damn, every time I listen to K.D. sing this, she just takes me out of this world. This is so powerful and moving. ❤🔥❤🔥❤
Without a doubt one of the greatest female vocalist of all time it's as if this song was made for her! Sublime
No one can do this song like KD. Brings me to my knees. She sings from her soul! Beautiful! Love you KD!
One word. Brilliant. 😍
Goosebumps every fucking time.
Love her sense of humor, her voice like melted gold everything about Kathryn Dawn Lang draws you in,her presence like no other!

Anne, can you tell me what this performance was for? A friend sent me this video yesterday with a reference to Pema Chodron?
Your lips to God's ears. You wrote this six years ago.... I'm so sad I never experienced her voice in person.

Well said. This amazing rendition gives solace
Fluffella Normalpaws; Solace is the right word. I come to this song at night when I can’t sleep and always one of K.D.s renditions.
My favorite version of hers so far. Thanks KD Lang. What I wanted/needed to hear in my 60th birthday.
Out of this world voice. The best.

Why does anyone else even bother trying to sing this song? She makes them all look like 4th runner ups at the state fair talent show.

anaweh . . . thx for answering my question!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR My Friend!!!
Nobody sings Leonard Cohen's classic song like k. d. lang. (Although Cohen himself did a pretty damn good job).
