Thanks James. Will be posting an update on this channel today or tomorrow. If you want to see the property sooner you can suss it out on the other channel. 😉😁
Thanks Rob for the update.. Didn't get enough of you during the hang , so just watched this. System is looking fantastic.. Cheers buddy til the next one.. 👍 🐂🐃🐄🐖🐐🦆🐔🐇
Ah a chance to say hi to one of my favorite new channels, love your content, hoping to have absorbed enough content to start some aquaponics once the outdoor grow season ends this year.
I will be setting up a basic IBC build fairly soon after the move as I want to make a step by step video & guide on one. It will probably be a backyard size 3 IBC build with 3 grow beds, fish tank & sump as most folks have the room for a build of that size. After that........ 🤔 I have a few ideas. I would like to grow using NFT as I have never used that method properly before. Only a half hearted attempt 20+ years ago with a hydro build. DWC culture as well. In all honesty, I'd like to try a sand based bed for a fodder grow system to see how that turns out. So many options. 😁😁
Direct sunlight is fine as long as you're not in an extreme climate & it's blistering hot. It's always a good idea to shade the plants from the heat of the afternoon sun in hot climates.
As for other elements, some are needed like calcium as there isn't a lot available in the fish waste. This video may help, ua-cam.com/video/n5mZettNMrY/v-deo.html
I have them in ours but cut out the bits of the video as it was getting a tad long. Great at breaking down large organic matter like old roots & leaves. They won't process all the fish waste like some claim they do. Cheers Milton.
Hey Tristan. It's best to shop around different hydroponic stores & see if you can get the closets one to price match the cheapest I've found. Buying in bulk also helps lower the price.
Scoria / volcanic rock are other options. Look up expanded shale if you're over in the US as well Kyle. Rob from Bigelow Brook Farm sells some. www.bigelowbrook.com/products/Shale/Default.aspx

Nice one MP & I hope the build goes smoothly when you start the build.
Cheers & have a fantastic week.
good luck with the house offer and appreciate all the work your putting into the system for us only to have to start again at the new place 😄
No Problem Malcom. The deck needs to be repainted before we go so that's one of the reasons for the move.
Have a top one mate. 👍
It is looking good Rob 👍
Cheers mate. 👍👍😁
Time to start planning the move 🎉 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Hoping to finish the system move today and will then start packing Jennifer. 😁😁
Cheers and have a fantastic week.
Keep up the good work mate
Cheers Mark. 👍
This system is looking good. Are you planning to keep this configuration if you move it to the new place or will you be redesigning it straight away?

Elder Brother,
Do we need to add other elements to the water?
Is it okay to expose plants to direct sunlight in an aquaponics system?

What is your opinion about having earthworms in your media bed?
Thank you in advance.

🤞 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞this is looking great too
Many thanks Sally. 😁👍
Hope you folks are doing well.
I'm looking for a container to start with. Any suggestions?
Good day rob So how often do you clean out your bed
Every few years if I think they're getting a build up of solids. If I had more frequent crop rotation they could probably go over 5 years.
Rob , where is the best place to get your grow medium. I can only seem to find small bags of the clay balls . Does it have to be thrm?
I'm not sure why my name is funky either lol. Name is Tristan

Are you here in OZ?
The clay balls are getting really expensive in my area, any tips on inexpensive subscriptions?
Pumice or perlite
Scoria / volcanic rock are other options. Look up expanded shale if you're over in the US as well Kyle. Rob from Bigelow Brook Farm sells some. www.bigelowbrook.com/products/Shale/Default.aspx
Wow, that root mass on the lemon grass was amazing :D
I think I'll be dividing it into a few smaller pieces when I plant it out. 😉
Cheers mate
👍
😁👍
Pumice
A great media if you can find it cheap enough from what I've been told by those that use it.
