From an article about the PS5 issue: "UA-camr and console repair specialist TheCod3r spotted one such PS5 in October. The console had stood vertically in its original packaging for months and refused to boot when it was eventually sold. After taking it apart, he found liquid cooling all over the mainboard, likely causing a short circuit thanks to its conductive properties. Two separate repair shops in France have reported similar issues." So this isn't about wrong usage, or at least that's not really clear. This is about out-of-the-box damages. Doesn't negate the concerns, but it frames it differently than here in the video.
My setup makes it so that i have to put my PS5 in a vertical position. So I do hope the liquid metal getting out doesnt become the new Red Ring of Death
Yeah. Sony kind of forced a lot of people into vertical placement because it's the biggest, ugliest console in a long, long time. Mine has been vertical for 2 years. No problems. Then again, i don't use it nearly as much as my xsx.
Certainly a little scary to hear about the liquid metal issue on PS5. I have had mine since close to launch and it has been vertical for probably 95% of that time. It's just such a behemoth I don't really have a better option. I can cram it into the entertainment center; it will just fit. But then I'm worried that the lack of air flow will start to cause problems. I guess I will have to keep my fingers crossed.
Don't worry about it, mate. Your PS5 will be fine. I've had mine vertical from launch day. I think this problem starts when the console is mishandled...someone drops it or knocks it over, or maybe damage is done when transporting it somewhere and it gets shaken. I'm leaving mine vertical
@@arsenewenger30 Liquid Metal is conductive and will absolutely have potential to cause a short on the motherboard if it travels/leaks. The leaking should not be possible if designed/installed properly. This stuff has been used forever and should not be a problem like this. Shaking the unit or dropping it could cause other damage, but would not be what leads to this unless you managed to physically damage the related components. But that's not what is being reported here. Based on what has been reported this is unmistakably a design or manufacturing defect, however it may or may not be a real, widespread issue. It could have been a "bad batch" of units. It could be a design flaw before a specific design revision. Nobody knows, yet.
Never been a fan of the vertical position. I remember back when the PS2 launched a lot of people were claiming the vertical position was scratching their disc. Just always felt horizontal was the best option.
@@pulseofme6884 honestly the PS5 is just ugly anyway you put it. The color scheme and finish is great but the shape is terrible unless the curves serve a purpose?
If this was a "Major PS5 Hardware Issue" we would be seeing a ton of reports well before some random repair shop owner comes out and says something, think how many PS5s have been vertical since day 1, mine included, and we are only hearing about this now, also PCs have been using liquid metal for years and most of them are vertical. Not saying liquid metal doesn't have it issues, but to call this a major issue based from one guys finding is a stretch/clickbait, the red ring of death was a major hardware issue, as of right now this isn't.
I feel like we would have heard way more cases by now since standing the ps5 i feel is the standard way of setting it up. I dont think this is going to become a massive issue, at least i fn hope so lol.
Wonder if those PlayStation systems have been opened by them before and if that has an effect, especially if they have removed the cover where the Liquid Metal is stored before.
Same I was thinking, still, hope its not true with sealed unopened system, still a flaw with the right to repair but seems logical. I was thinking this when it was said ps5 has liquid metal, was like wouldn't it start going down... With pc, its same and always vertical but dont think people seal, so Im not sure...
Anyone remember back in December 2020, Hermen Hulst tweeted a PS5 on its left side with the disc drive upside down? Maybe he (Head of Playstation Studios) knew something back then.
Well my PS5 has been in a vertical position for 2 years now and it hasn’t frozen up. I mean that thing is a beast. Not easy to find a spot to lay it down.
I mean the odds are in your favor for it being good but somebody pointed out that when they put liquid metal into a PC it's always aftermarket so it's the individual who owns the PC who does it whereas Sony is the first company to push out mass-produced liquid metal PS5s so more than likely a handful of them are defective and not properly sealed because something is going to make it past the warehouse that's just a statistical fact at that point so as long as it doesn't show signs of corroding you should be fine still
Oled screens have been not too uncommon on controllers: Those duke controllers for modern systems used OLED's that play the og boot up sequence for the original xbox
Been looking on forums and couldn’t find anything related to this PS5 issue: when I turn the system off with a disc in and turn it on again the system doesn’t seem to recognize the game disc that’s inside, and have to eject it and put it back again so that the PS5 recognize it.
The Liquid Metal is kept in by a sort of porous sponge substance, and so I feel like the ones that are leaking just happen to get unlucky enough to where those holes lineup in a way to allow the liquid to come out
had my launch ps5 in the vertical mode for 2 years no issues. i heard that maybe sudden impacts might cause the hsf to shift which may cause the lm to leak.
My thing is 95% of PCs are upright standing and the CPU if you use liquid metal for it is in the same vertical position as the APU on the PS5 and we don't hear anything about those PCs being ruined because of the liquid metal moving while the cooler is in place so I kind of feel like this is a very circumstantial problem with a lot more variables involved other than just having your PS5 standing upright.
You also have to wonder if the seal may have been damaged one of the times these systems were disassembled. Maybe Sony could release replacement seals and a how to video for reapplication of the liquid metal.
@@tofugardens2409 yea true, damage or just treating it like a toy and not tightening it as properly as it was. Good idea but unlike us PC builders, most of the console people never messed inside a computer or know what cpu, pc, ram, heck even m.2 ssd is ect. So that would be more harm than good, they be like I got this! Easy,,,,Nope.
It's interesting that a dodgy console means every ps5 console is doomed when it comes to these articles. Let's ignore all the ps5s that have been running fine since launch and will continue to. Every piece of electronics has lemons man it's just the reality of things. I really hate these doom and gloom titles for clicks
This PS5 news rather pissed me off for one reason: I can't use it horizontally. I have absolutely zero way to finagle my current living situation with my room to have it horizontally without putting it on the damn floor. I found out about this mere HOURS before I was going to walk out of my house and start hunting around if any store had one, even the Digital one. And now I have to put that on hold because a main staple of PlayStation hardware since the PS2 days of variable positions suddenly is gone when this failure is probably the most believable I've ever heard that can just happen to anyone outside of the red ring or yellow light. Now I have to wait an unknown amount of time before I can safely get this stupid thing I've already had to wait years to even see it in stock. I know people are gonna say "but that saved you like 400 or 500 dollars!" No it didn't. It put 400-500 dollars on the back burner so now it's going to be in my mind for months until either I can fix said living situation or newer hardware is built differently. I *WANT* to buy this goddamn console. I want my various (at least originally) PS4 exclusive games to run at 60 FPS, I WANT Final Fantasy 16 and 7 Remake's sequels.
@SpawnWave a friend of mine got the PS5 on release date and had it horizontal for 8 months till it started to overheat until a it crashed. Amazon wouldn't replace it due to stock sortage and was offered a refund but he refused. He sent it to sony and has been about 8 months with no PS5. He just recently got one back due to the stock sortage
I think shady repair people with blow dryers are a bigger risk than the liquid metal casing failing on its own. Am I the only one who's seen the hidden cameras catch grimy electronic repair shops. and those electronics didn't have liquid metal.
Okay, my current pc build which was assembled in 2012, z77x and 3770k, is using galinstan as thermal compound since installation in 2012, in vertical position no less. I have performed regular cleaning and inspection at a cycle of every two years. Of course the big noctua cooler needs to come out too, I have not witnessed any movement from the thin galinstan film on the cpu ihs or on the coolers cold plate. I have since then used galinstan on a variety of devices, notebooks, pre built pc,... all with pure copper or nickel plated copper cold plates. Other than optical change on the copper plates (gallium migration into the upper layers of copper) I have had no negative side effects. My 3770k is delided too and as thermal compound between die and ihs I use galinstan too, the cpu has been delided since 2015. Anyway, key to this is a very thin film of galinstan so that the adhesive forces keep the galinstan in the gap between die-ihs and ihs-cold plate, no sealing whatsoever required. With the ps5, I don't know how much galinstan is applied but if they need a sealing around, implies that there is much too much. Galinstan as any other thermal compound should always only be a surface smoother to connect two surfaces of varying surface smoothness as good as possible together with as little as possible thermal resistance. It should not be a vibration coupler nor should it be used as manufaction tolerance variable distance coupler, this is not the task of a thermal compound. The fact, that there is so much galinstan as it can form a bulge on the die when in vertical position actually hints to a design shortcoming between mainboard, emi shield and die cooler, where distances between die and cooler are to big and more galinstan is need to bridge this gap. This design shortcoming is imho probably due to the sheet metal stamped emi shields which can have varying heights from part to part in region of upto half a millimeter and are in between mainboard and cooler assembly, even though there is a cut out for the cold plate to directly connect with the die. Anyway, this problem is possibly a hidden design flaw, there are laws in various countries dealing with hidden defects with time frames of upto 20 years from date of sale onwards, to make sure that there is no bailing out for big companies responsabilities. The fact, that there is a sealing around the die, sony knew that weakness of their manufacturing process and design and hoped the seal would hold up till out of warranty or until a substantial design revision, replacing the few failing devices with no questions asked.
I've used my PS5 vertically for over two years and haven't had any problems beyond a minor issue where the console wouldn't turn on via the controller unless it was plugged in, which presumably got patched. Never even had the rest mode problems others got
On the PS5 leak I think it's more for people who have it in an area that it's not getting much air flow or 2 they're not taking breaks and letting it cool off they're just leaving and running forever..
Well I haven;t had any problems with mine standing upright for 2 years since launch.. Although i DO HAVE an unopened brand new one since launch that i kept sealed and unopened .. I wonder if that system will have any prooblems if i decide to one day open it and fire it up!
To be fair PS5 was released 2 years ago and 28 million have been sold. Compare the number of people complaining about X360 RROD versus this liquid metal issue, is thousands of times fewer people complaining. Thousands of people were complaining about X360s dying. If the liquid metal leaks the system will not work. We aren't even hearing 1/20th the number of PS5's dying.
I... may have paused the video as soon as he mentioned the PS5 flaw and moved mine into horizontal mode. Those things are rare and expensive, no need to fight gravity for no reason. Looking forward to the next episode where the design flaw in the horizontal orientation is revealed.
30 million units out in the wild is not rare in any sense. That are more PS5’s than there are Gamecubes or Original Xbox’s. Ps5 are also pretty frequently on store shelves now….

Gaben has spoiled me to the point that this Nintendo sale looks like a rip off. Nintendo is so anti consumer and it sucks I can’t pick up a launch title for less than $60 digitally when steam regularly has better games at lower prices.
Personally, I don't like to leave my consoles in a vertical position (with the exception of switch). I think there's always the possibility of something knocking them over, so I think horizontal is the safest way to maintain.
Had my xbox 360 vertical since launch and I havent seen any damage to my disks; nor has it ever been knocked over, just gotta place it right and not where feet can punt it.
My mom would have loved the Wheel of Fortune cabinet. She loved slot machines and whenever she bought something from the $5 PC game rack at Walmart, it was always a slot machine game.
Wait... Didn't Jon say that it would take 2 weeks to ship *new glasses* for him after he broke the last pair he had? Pretty sure it's been more than "2 weeks" since he last talked about it. 😂
Not saying the LM leaking is fake news but it seems like the vertical orientation has nothing to do with the problem. Its more of a defect issue with the seal. If the seal is damaged in some way then having it vertically will allow the LM to leak more easily. I suspect this will be a non issue for 95% of ps5 owners.
Having a leak horizontally or vertically would be bad because either way we wouldn’t know until the ps5 is damaged and overheating. So having it horizontally wouldn’t make a difference. If the seal is bad it will leak both ways.
I saw an article on this over the night, made me get up out of bed at 2:00am to put my console horizontal, I’ve had it vertical ever since I got it a month after lunch, I’m paranoid 😅.
Wont make a difference, just a scare piece since a leak regardless of orientation will still provide damages by connecting traces closest to the cpu. Cant minimalize a leak
I own 5 cats so standing any console vertically is never gonna be an option for me. Unless it was designed specifically to be stood up like the series x with it’s bigger square base, I don’t think any consoles should be stood up vertically with such flimsy bases.

Showing a card game on the infinity game board looks silly, you can easily see everyone’s cards, guess they expect you to cover them with a sheet of construction paper?
If it comes to the Liquid Metal issue: The PS5 is packed in the Box verticaly. So this means that even if you don't use it, it "maybe" will get the same issue.
Desktops has been using the same "liquid metal coolant" and on vertical alignment for decades now and haven't seen anyone say the least. Why only the PS5 then? It could be a faulty hardware and not necessarily the design itself.

I remember a lot of people talking about it being a bad idea that Sony used liquid metal for the PS5 when it was first announced… but the issue just kind of got brushed aside.
Yeah I don't remember people talking about it but I hesitated to buy a few used ps5s knowing the liquid metal could be in various states. Also didn't want to have to buy liquid metal if I need to repair something. Just seemed like a unnecessary headache when Microsoft used thermal paste no problem. The PS5 doesn't even have better cooling or performance as far as I'm aware. My Xbox series x is insanely quiet two years later
Only people who have no idea what they are talking about were worried about it. The ps5 is over clocked and disperses a lot of heat; thermal paste simply wouldn’t be enough and the console would over heat. The liquid metal isn’t going to leak, plenty of other electronics use it and have it vertical.

We all knew this problem was possible when Sony decided to use liquid metal. That's why I keep mine horizontal. With that being said, do you think Sony will cover this under warranty or maybe even do recalls?
Absolutely not. Sony won't even give refunds for broken games, so why would they recall consoles they shipped busted? Unless a government entity steps in, they aren't doing anything.
I think the liquid metal is going to cause a lot of long term issues for the ps5. Even It's just repair shops doing a sloppy job of dealing with it and getting on the motherboard which leads to shorts
I don’t have any room to put my PS5 horizontally. I just looked. There’s no way i could and do it with proper airflow. I’ve had it vertically for over a year so just hope not new RRoD bc i just can’t change its positioning it’s too big
Liquid metal is conductive as well. Usually when using liquid metal you put a coating over the surrounding area so they don't short out if the liquid metal leaks out Minis forum had a machine with liquid metal a few years ago and gamers nexus has a good video on how poorly it went
You know the funniest thing is is both my computer built in 2020 and my son's computer I built for him in 2021. Both used liquid metal in a vertical position with no buffers or no. Nothing to keep it in place and pay hammer on the computer is pretty good and nothing's leaking out interesting and even if it would to leak out it would cool down so quick. It shouldn't move anywhere. Think of like solder
With the ps5 I wonder if this is why they kept updating the system internally? Not just to "reduce costs" maybe they knew about this before, wouldn't that warrant a recall on launch ps5's?
@chuckberry1240 they've released a total of 3 different ps5 versions (including the launch version) they clearly knew something was off. When I say "system internally" I mean they change the internals of the ps5, not the software. I get the confusion though.
@Akuza Star this is why Sony are scum bags to me, they know there is an inside and yet they still sell it and know that people will have broken ps5s and will buy another one to replace instead of boycotting that cheap chhinese trash ass company. They rather sell you the solution rather then give you a good quality product
That new controller with the screen built in is just basically just got inspired by the Sega Dreamcast VMU with the screen built into to memory except it takes the memory function and just has the screen.
I didn't have nearly enough space to put the PS5 vertically in my entertainment center - the thing is so dang big. So mine has nearly always been horizontal.
If Sony understood that this could happen then they shouldn't have designed it that way but they decided to go ahead and release it that way anyway. What were they thinking? Are they begging for a law suit or something? Now you have 30 million PS5s out there with this problem and probable half of them at risk of breaking. This could become another RROD all over again. When will these companies learn?Glad this came to light before i bought one.I think i'll wait for the PS5 version 2.Hopefully it will be better designed .....Later
@Chris G If that's the case, then yeah... Thank you to all of you 30 million gamers for testing the PS5 for me. I hope the next PS5 will be better designed
I'm surprised so many people keep it vertical. Mine has been horizontal since day one. Vertical looked awkward to me. I'm always afraid it's going to fall over.
Some people may not have the space to set it horizontally like with my set up as it is alongside my xbox, Switch and my sound system it's just not possible to unless I fork out for a bigger cabinet and I'm just not doing that or should have to.
Its the opposite for me. The system is clearly designed to be vertical. The stand that keeps it horizontal feels so flimsy to me. I feel like it could slip out of the stand so easily.
Great just got a PS5 and this information showed up. Will see how long mine last, luckily I do not have the time to spend hours every day so it may not affect mine. Just hope if this become a big issue Sony do a revision but also do something for those that already have the system... Probably not like any typical corporations.
The problem with the Triple A trying to make small games is that they try to do cheaper games not good small games. Is very rare a good small games from these big companies that is not mobile with a ton of microtransactions.
A design flaw in a Sony product?! The only design flaw I've been having is being unable to log in to my PS3 account I've had for almost the last decade because of some supposed "2-factor security measure" Sony implemented. It's as if Sony doesn't care about their older, classic games. Now I can't redownload or play the Infamous trilogy.
I'd gladly take an Xbox controller with haptic feedback and HD rumble, not sure how crazy I am about having a tiny OLED screen on my controller. How often would people look down to see info displayed on there, anyway? I like the idea of using the screen for in-game vitals like Resident Evil/Dead Space, but using the screen to show controller battery levels sounds like that would drain your controller battery faster?
I think you missed a big selling point for that controller. You said it can load up game setups, if it can do that for the steam deck, as many versions of linux to run different games, I could see it being very useful. And it can be connected in many ways.
Yep. As you say you don't look at the controller when you're playing. I am never aware of the LED colour on my PS controllers - I just don't look. Also, even a simple screen display will use a lot of extra battery power!
@@lemming9984 a simple screen display or lights absolutely do not use much power. I could almost guarantee that there's a less than 5% difference in battery life
The COTD was interesting - the shmup channel "The Electric Underground" posted a video yesterday on why games aren't fun anymore which kind of links into this. Games are generally made as long form stories these days - effectively movies. There's only so far they can go before they rival summer blockbusters! I think that's why Elden Ring really worked for a lot of people. It had that triple-A presentation but it was all focused on gameplay elements - not pointless cut scenes etc.
Hey Jon, if you’ve been using your PS5 vertically, maybe it’s time for another tear down? Update: never mind Jon says at the end of the video his is horizontal.
I think it's really REALLY crappy of Sony to know that this would happen with the liquid metal, but only do a good enough job for it to last just over 2 years (realistically) so that it is no longer covered under warranty. Really crappy 😮💨
Indeed. Shady tactics to get more money from fans. We see these things in every daily life product we use. The good old days companies use to make products last longer until they started to stand behind the environmental agenda where products need to be safe for the planet & basically not hurt the earth if say pollution happens.
Sony’s sale strategy is a short shelf life. The PS1 laser issues, the PS2 DVD reader, the PS3 overheating and the PS5 leak. They count on their broneys having to buy 2 versions during the console life, hence total system sales
Hate to break it to you, but anyone in the PC space who knows what liquid metal is knew this would happen. The moment it was announced they were using LM for their thermals i knew this would eventually be a problem. Heck i think even Shawn said as much in one of his videos as concerns about this were instant. LM is (or should be) only used my enthusiasts who not only know what they are doing, but also accept the risk involved in using it. Sony should have never used it, but it was the only way they could overclock the PS5 enough to warrant its price (and compete with xbox) without making it a *more* bulky chassis. I dislike Sony and dont trust them (they are anti-consumer) but in this instance, the information was out there for the buyer, anyone who has a PS5 is partly to blame for this as they should have done their research.
@@Randers_ Planned? no. They didnt plan on it failing. Knew the risks that it could fail and took those risks for profit? Yes. They RUSHED this console out the door because they wanted to cash in on the pandemic gaming rush. This is the price Sony and any PS5 owner pays for that.

People need to stop blindly defending the ps5. The console has had so many problems, everything from rest mode issues to this, and people still blindly defend Sony for some reason. Like the console has had more issues than most other consoles at launch, you can still like it while recognizing that
I assume the ps5 issue might be caused by how much liquid metal is being used, you don't really see this issue on PC but you only use a very thin application while on ps5 teardown/repair vids there is so much of the stuff that you can see it moving around as the ps5 is tilted.
I think the Wii U proved that controller screens, while a neat novelty, are not overly practical. I think a simple switch for changing profiles on the fly is a more viable option and would be easier for muscle memory to pick up on. I’m my opinion, anything that may cause you to look away from the main task is an inefficient tool.
WRONG. First of all, the dreamcast was awesome, the screen just wasn't good enough yet. Second, the wiiu failed because of horrible marketing, people didn't know what it was. Third, the DS and 3DS are 2 of the greatest selling systems of all time, proving that a second screen is viable. Just having a dedicated map Screen justifies it. That alone is worth it.
@@mickeymickey9914 Sorry man the Dreamcast is easy to forget. I do agree though that the DS proved it as a concept but I think it only works because of the close proximity of the two screens. You can acquire information with quick glances. When it comes to at home couch or pc gaming, in my opinion, having to look down at my hands for any kind of info is just inefficient. In a casual gaming setting that is one thing, but Asus is marketing this as a competitive gaming peripheral.

My PS5 has been upright since launch and play it everyday, I haven’t had an issue and that’s already 2 years now
Gonna wait for more data about that vertical liquid metal issue.
There’s a good chance many have been opened to replace the hdmi ports
Same I was thinking, still, hope its not true with sealed unopened system, still a flaw with the right to repair but seems logical. I was thinking this when it was said ps5 has liquid metal, was like wouldn't it start going down... With pc, its same and always vertical but dont think people seal, so Im not sure...
On the FB repair group where I noticed this they said there were never openned.
the cod3r showed this a few months ago with a PS5 he had in for repair.
Same. I'm not concerned.
Then you have to be concerned that the discs will get messed up horizontal .
If I just bought it I'd be scared. However, it's been running fine since launch. No cause for alarm in my opinion.
@@dubu5820 Why would it? I thought horizontal is the proper way to use a disk.
The Liquid Metal is kept in by a sort of porous sponge substance, and so I feel like the ones that are leaking just happen to get unlucky enough to where those holes lineup in a way to allow the liquid to come out
Could be that the seal around the chip is bad or not very tight.
had my launch ps5 in the vertical mode for 2 years no issues. i heard that maybe sudden impacts might cause the hsf to shift which may cause the lm to leak.
@@LCJammer Sony just sucks at engineering.
@@pulseofme6884 your Xbox, Nintendo, PC flags are showing.

Good thing I use it horizontally since day 1
My thing is 95% of PCs are upright standing and the CPU if you use liquid metal for it is in the same vertical position as the APU on the PS5 and we don't hear anything about those PCs being ruined because of the liquid metal moving while the cooler is in place so I kind of feel like this is a very circumstantial problem with a lot more variables involved other than just having your PS5 standing upright.
Same thing I was saying/thinking, wonder if they just didnt seal it properly, meaning tightening

Most of these repair UA-camrs have like 90% PS5 over anything Xbox.
Might be a clue bud. Regardless of this latest leak thing.
I know people are gonna say "but that saved you like 400 or 500 dollars!"
No it didn't.
No reason for them to have used Liquid Metal over thermal paste. The advantage is negligible. A very poor design.
Your comment is exactly why I leave stupidity alone
Whelp you forgot to mention that today is friday, so we'll see newswave next week.
Metroid Dread was a nice surprise we need more games like that, they good and they're fun to play.
In the February Direct we can definitely expect some suprises like that.
I love that game, looks great on oled too
You are absolutely right.
I'm the same as you, but just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen to someone else.

I thought the liquid metal warning was old news?
I've never had a problem in vertical mode, but I sure did just turn it horizontal
This is why you don’t use liquid metal in computers what was Sony thinking
To be fair PS5 was released 2 years ago and 28 million have been sold. Compare the number of people complaining about X360 RROD versus this liquid metal issue, is thousands of times fewer people complaining. Thousands of people were complaining about X360s dying. If the liquid metal leaks the system will not work. We aren't even hearing 1/20th the number of PS5's dying.
you should see the alienware xbox controller, it's still in development but it looks really cool too
Honestly, my least favorite part of 3 houses was the school setting. Loved it otherwise. So I'm really looking forward to a more traditional game.

I... may have paused the video as soon as he mentioned the PS5 flaw and moved mine into horizontal mode. Those things are rare and expensive, no need to fight gravity for no reason. Looking forward to the next episode where the design flaw in the horizontal orientation is revealed.
Same just done that now lol

A good thing about indie games is that when you’re exploring you don’t need to worry about the main character never shutting up
Personally, I don't like to leave my consoles in a vertical position (with the exception of switch). I think there's always the possibility of something knocking them over, so I think horizontal is the safest way to maintain.
Yeah me too but god the PS5 is an eyesore
Had my xbox 360 vertical since launch and I havent seen any damage to my disks; nor has it ever been knocked over, just gotta place it right and not where feet can punt it.

Beyond overheating, Liquid Metal leaking could cause shorts on the motherboard because metal is conductive.

Damn, that MK2 cabinet brings back some memories.
I saw an article on this over the night, made me get up out of bed at 2:00am to put my console horizontal, I’ve had it vertical ever since I got it a month after lunch, I’m paranoid 😅.
Good thing you didn’t have it vertical since dinner.
Wont make a difference, just a scare piece since a leak regardless of orientation will still provide damages by connecting traces closest to the cpu. Cant minimalize a leak
Sad
I own 5 cats so standing any console vertically is never gonna be an option for me.
Unless it was designed specifically to be stood up like the series x with it’s bigger square base, I don’t think any consoles should be stood up vertically with such flimsy bases.

We NEED a tech wave for the ps5 liquid metal issue!
And don't affect it if it's brand new in a box
I mean it seemed pretty logigical to not use a liquid metal compound on a vertically oriented component but W/E
If it comes to the Liquid Metal issue: The PS5 is packed in the Box verticaly. So this means that even if you don't use it, it "maybe" will get the same issue.
maybe the issue starts when its on so the liquid heats and start leaking
The systems are not on in the box. I believe the "flowiness" of the liquid metal is related to the heat the chips generate
I've heard that the issue might be caused by the system vibrating while running and the heat slightly displacing the system's seals.
I hope in PS5 Slim there will be some other kind of CPU/GPU cooling, without any liquid metal.
Desktops has been using the same "liquid metal coolant" and on vertical alignment for decades now and haven't seen anyone say the least. Why only the PS5 then?
It could be a faulty hardware and not necessarily the design itself.
Are you an expert?, like it was said in a post experts looked at it and decided that it was a design flaw.

I remember a lot of people talking about it being a bad idea that Sony used liquid metal for the PS5 when it was first announced… but the issue just kind of got brushed aside.
Just like Nintendo and joycon drift..🙄
I'd happily trade that screen on the Raikiri for having legible letters printed on the buttons!
I had my ps5 since launch and kept it in vertical position since launch week. Maybe I was lucky.

Hahaha funny.
If you are still in the warranty period when it happens absolutely. Out of warranty period? Nope.
If it leaks, why does the orientation matter? It would flow regardless.
Had a feeling it would leak eventually. Wonder if the redesign will still use liquid metal.
I really slowed down on games during the PS4/XboxOne era. I got tired of everything trying to be open-world without offering new gameplay experiences.
Usually when using liquid metal you put a coating over the surrounding area so they don't short out if the liquid metal leaks out

No I understand, thankfully I have a lot of space for mine.
Don’t worry bout this bullshit. I’ve had mine since launch and I’ve had no issues.
Same here. Had mine since launch and has been vertical the whole time. No issues
The Flydigi Apex 3 Elite also has a screen that's bigger and full color although it isn't oled. It's a pretty good controller for about $120 USD.

Electric underground makes some of the best videos, dude is based
Some of legit like the cut scenes. FFX and Kingdom Hearts are some of my favorite game of all time.
Not all gamers are the same.
If it’s a legitimate flaw, Sony would have to repair under consumer law, won’t matter how old the console is.

When you notice these seals leak on PS5s, does it seem like it’s often caused by other damage to the system, or this this a wear and tear (plus QA variance) situation?
