Joke is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The song is a message to haters and it was purely made to showcase the technical aspects of his rapping skills. There is a line in the song “이건 의미없는 말놀이’’ which translates into ‘’this is a meaningless wordplay”, the line describes the song perfectly. In 2015 interview for HIPHOPPLAYA RM explained: ‘Joke’ is a song whose lyrics were written with a stream of consciousness. That’s why the title is called ‘Joke’ as well. There’s nothing hidden behind the lyrics. It’s 500% for the auditory pleasure of rap songs. Since the other songs have messages or emotions placed into them, I felt that it was necessary to add in a refreshing song without any thoughts. I put in a lot of what I believe are rap ‘skills’.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this but rm has been in the rap scene since he was around 14/15 yrs old and people were LITERALLY SCARED of being put against him. He had the most amazing lyrics and social commentary since that time and that's the reason why their ceo was impressed with rm too. So much that the ceo created bts around this kid he found after listening to one song. He's respected in the rap scene in korea, for a reason
A few things he was a prodigy rapper as a young teen. The CEO of BigHit formed BTS around RM and then Suga. The two really are the foundation of the music and core. Their rapping is no “Joke” and this track was him flexing how many flows and his lyrical skills for how easy all this is for him. I’d highly suggesting you do all 4 Cyphers they go off this hard and it’s fun to watch how BTS rapline grows over the years across the 4. I personally love Cypher 2 and 4 the best and live it’s insane to see them rap live with more energy than the studio recording. Also shout out to RM and BTS using their skills to speak at the UN on Monday. Can’t be more impressed with them. Yes please do Change with Wale too.
You can really feel that he was so fed up with the Korean rappers criticising him and and the other members for so long he had to come and tell them what was up RM is LEGENDARY.
I love you guys reaction so much 💜I glad y’all liked it. RM is fucking amazing he’s an lyricists I’m telling y’all he literally has mastered every technical skill it has to be a rapper, I can’t wait for you guys to get into some of his other solo songs especially his first Mixtape which is 🔥. And the whole point of the song Joke is basically meaningless it’s showing off his skills as a rapper and dissing the haters who talked shit on his name.
Can you please stop saying this?? Joke is in no way meaningless. Not by lyrics, neither by its intention. If you don't understand his lyrics and wordplay, just say that and then go read what he means.
@@RM-of2oz he said, and I quote: “this song doesn’t have any SPECIAL meaning or anything deep”. He meant it’s not some profound song like Love Yourself Answer. But it’s not meaningless or “just some words with no sense”. Go read the fvcking lyrics and explanation to it if you aren’t able to comprehend them.
RM said he no longer wanna refer to himself as a "Rap Monster" beacause he is, and I quote, "A beautiful human being, not a monster". Please refer to him as either just RM or "Real Me".
I am kind of surprised none of you seemed to pick up based on the directed attack that Joke is literally a rap battle response. Specifically Rap Monster's name was being publicly mocked and his personal choice to become an Idol was being deemed a betrayal to the Hip Hop "underground" culture. Much of that was straight up ugly. RM's final two words in Joke are "hit me" meaning come with it if you feel you can do better. One of you seemed to pickup the nonstop flow without pauses. That guy was close to picking things up in my mind. Nonstop flow was a characteristic of this release because it was never intended to be a song but rather it was written to be a display of talent and a clap back at ridicule by delivering a stronger rap than the critic. Joke though to some extent broadly responding to RM's fellows does have a specific target who was being deemed a joke. He was a corporately promoted rookie who delivered an out of line blind side mocking RM and BTS in a rap performance at major internationally televised award show. This was particularly weak kneed as BTS had already performed innocuously. The release of Joke ultimately put the issue to bed as the other rapper never responded until two years later publicly apologizing by standing next to his boss and letting the boss do the smoothing over.
He already overgrown with that name now his using RM which means REAL ME. RM indeed good lyric writer Gosh His and his bts brothers are Koreas special presidential envoy for future generations
Min 7:40, he's name is Min Yoongi, his alias for BTS is SUGA (short for shooting guard in basketball, he used to play) and his alias for his solo stuff is Agust D ( a play on words, if you read it backwards the *D* stands for Daegu, the city his from, *t* for town and *suga* for obvious reasons, lol. You guys should react to his introduction song AGUST D by obviously Agust D. Pure fire, one of my favorites.
The name 'rap monster' actually originated from a song rm wrote while he was still an underground rapper, when he was told to choose a stage name this had already been a nickname for him at Bighit (as far as I'm aware) and therefore felt like a natural choice at that time. He has said that the name rap monster doesn't fully represent who is as an artist anymore, which is part of the reason why he goes by 'rm' today.
RM officially changed his name into "REAL ME " AND this was before he had inner peace He released his last album under real me,- named "MONO" the whole album is like 180 from his previous songs One person said the whole album is like you are sitting beside window, it's raining ,and suddenly RM is there with hot cup of coffee He hugs you while you sip in the coffee and talk about you in silence
Mono is still released under RM, what r u talking abt?? And he changed his stage name from rap monster to RM in 2017 and he never clarified what it stands for exactly and that it can be like for real me but that isn't the official meaning. With everything else u said tho u were on point
RM admits he has now outgrown the name Rap Monster as he was only 18/19 when they debuted and joined Big Hit at 15/16! But he still goes by RM and has extended the meaning to Real Me.
Might be a long post but I just want to add some context. Something I want to point out about his stage name. RM decided to change his name from Rap Monster to just RM and said that the name doesn't represent his artistic core anymore and you can hear that in his recent music. Mono (2018) was definitely a 180 change in his tone and we could see how much he has grown over the years (RM was released in 2015). I love that both projects clearly represent a different time in his life where his attitude, thoughts and issues are so different from each other, the aggressive narrative in RM (2015) turned into a more contemplative one in Mono. It's like making RM for him was a final statement to this part of his life where he had to deal with the questioning of his own identity, how to define himself as an artist (Is he a rapper or just an idol?) and that opposing thoughts were weighing him down (we can hear him talk about it in Bangtan Log). I think this project (RM 2015)) was him saying I could be who the fuck I want to be and what other think of him doesn't matter anymore (Awake a track in RM captured this thought really well), he has finally able to find a resolve in his own emotional turmoil and ready to move on from it. Now I remember hearing him said that he may not be able to rap like how he used to because of that angst in him went away (well tbh sometimes I really miss the energy he brings in a track with that aggression, at least we have URGH to enjoy ourselves) and in turn he became even more philosophical asking the question who Kim Namjoon really is, not the Rap Monster or RM from BTS that the public knows. I think that journey through his music gave a lot of comfort to his supporters as it showed that we can all make peace with our sorrows and that growing from our old mindset and beliefs are another part of life we all have to encounter. Truly an amazing story as his fans to learn about. Basically, I just wanted to say that that name probably makes him cringe now as well looking back at his past hahahaha but nonetheless it symbolizes his late teens to early 20s days and I think that really cool to look back.
Some RM collabs with other rappers would be: *Change* with Wale (which was already said) *Rush* with Krizz Kaliko *Buckubucku* with MFBTY (a Korean hip hop crew made up of the founders of k-hiphop). *Timeless* with Tiger JK (who is also a member of MFBTY, and is considered the godfather of k-hiphop). *Gajah* with Gaeko (fair warning abt how freaky the MV is). I also rec Suga x RM tracks too: *Strange* (from Agust D's 'D-2' mixtape) *All Night* (their collab with Juice Wrld).
Namjoon is literally the main rapper in the group. He was in the underground scene before he ever joined BTS. Grown rappers were afraid to go up against him. Even Suga had heard of him in Daegu. His lyrical and rap ability is the reason the group was ever thought up. Joon is a rapper who can do anything. He not only raps in Korean but in English and Japanese. He always writes his own lyrics and even writes for the other members. Joon/RM has worked with Warren G & Wale. The Joke of the title is about the rap scene in SK that turned against him when he became an idol. Also, he changed his name children. It's why he's now called RM. He didn't choose the name, it just stuck and y'all need to put some respect on Rap Monster, grow up.
Bts especially rm and suga were angry teens. This is the past and i don't think he would be back to be like this but is interesting to know that if they would want to they could be so dirty
This isn't KPOP per say, it is another form known as K-Hiphop / rap which is the raw version; it is RM and SUGA main specialty since they were legit underground rappers in their much younger years when they're were globally famous but they were very well known within their hometowns as well as south korea. As they do their solo music they continue to stay humble.
Can't wait for y'all to get to more of their older stuff. Y'all seem to like more of their hip hop/ late 90s R&B type of sound and they used to do that more in their earlier albums so I'm looking forward to your responses to those. And something I wanted to point out is that Yoongi's actually the lead rapper. I don't think that has changed recently but if any knowledgable ARMY wants to correct me, feel free!
I love rapline so much but He’s (joon) my favorite rapper … he can do everything for real like imagine doing a song like Joke and then go do something like bicycle 🔥🤯..two deferent songs but the same amazing rapper…. he’s the main Rapper in the group for a reason 💜
NO YOU DID NOT ! About time REDEMPTION 46 ! CLASSIC ! . MUCH LOVE...................................................................................................
Rapper Bobby from the group Ikon dissed RM once on stage... I heard rumors that this song was RMs response to the diss... I read in an interview that he considered Bobby's diss a "light jab" to he responded back with a light jab, at the end RM saying hit me was his way of saying what you got next.. and they never responded back...
The thing is he is not dissing anyone. He made this song to prove to those unknown rapper that he can indeed rap. the way he changes flows and jump from syllables to syllables and just freaking rap. most “rapper” was mocking him or “joking” for having Rap Monster as his stage name when he is in the kpop group. and those said rappers were someone who he looked up to and friends with since he was in underground rapper before he debuted. So yea, no special context to the song it’s just for the people who degrades him.

I was reading some comments about what this song was and stuff- And there are some who say this song is just "meaningless". I think what made some fans run with the "it's meaningless" is simply because of some of the lyrics and what Namjoon actually said about the song. He said there was no hidden meaning and it wasn't deep lyrically. Of course, that doesn't mean it doesn't hold weight to it, that we- the listeners can't find meaning within the song considering what he's been through that we know about. So in that sense, it isn't just meaningless words. I also think some fans and ARMYs who are newer miss out how impressive this rap really was for him at that time. One of the reasons he stopped rapping fast often was because of his deviated septum which caused him trouble breathing at times. It eventually got so bad that he did have surgery done in early 2018/late 2017 somewhere in there if I remember correctly. So he rapped this, while having trouble with breathing. I'm not an expert, and never would claim to me.. but to me, that's fricken impressive. Also the "RM stands now for Real Me" thing is not exactly true. RM had already changed his name to RM. About a year or so later he made a comment about how his reason for changing is name was because he's not a monster he's a human. He said "I want to be the real me. I'm Kim Namjoon" But Real Me has the same letters(RM) and fans thought he meant that is what it now stands for, and it does fit. But we shouldn't say that is what it stands for when he never actually said it. It could mean it, and he might say that it does at some point. I personally prefer to view it as both. He's being the "Real Me" that he is in the moment, and he's also still a bit of a "Rap Monster" because he never forgets where he came from.
You probably saw my comment and i wasn’t necessarily trying to say the song was meaningless because I’ve read the lyrics and the translations and i know it’s a lot of wordplay in there, but as someone else mentioned some of the lyrics are disjointed, and are just there because they rhyme together. Some lyrics are just random sentences and words and that’s ok because the whole point of the song was called joke to show off his skills. Being called a “fake fan” because I said that even though it wasn’t exactly what I was trying to say(I should have been more specific) is kinda upsetting because Namjoon is my bias and I legit know nearly every single song from his discography and i take time reading interviews abt his work and even reading his lyrics from songs. I feel like a lot of people misunderstood the comment and thought I was trying to say the entire song was meaningless but I wasn’t. I was actually going by what Namjoon actually stated in a interview back abt the song.
You just listened to "Joke" from RM's 1st mixtape "RM". His 2nd mixtape "mono" is dipping a lot more into different genres and he's also showing what he's capable of concerning singing & how he grew artistically. There were 3 MVs/lyric videos, "forever rain", "seoul" & "moonchild", but the other songs "tokyo", "badbye", "uhgood" & "everythingoes" are also very good. It's a good mixtape to listen to. It doesn't age.
i say you somethin', hiphop in us is in big trouble. if artists like migos, drake, 21 savage, and other mumble rappers still got the number in us chart. don't be surprised when you see some 'asian' rappers like justhis, pH-1, bewhy, or idol rappers like RM, Zico, Suga, Bobby, SKZ Rapline do a better job than us rappers.
I saw someone literally throw a hissy fit because someone said they prefer the rappers in South Korea than in the US and apparently that person was not allowed to have an opinion. I listen to some rap, but it's not my favorite kind of music. But with BTS I love their rapping.

Joke is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The song is a message to haters and it was purely made to showcase the technical aspects of his rapping skills. There is a line in the song “이건 의미없는 말놀이’’ which translates into ‘’this is a meaningless wordplay”, the line describes the song perfectly. In 2015 interview for HIPHOPPLAYA RM explained:
‘Joke’ is a song whose lyrics were written with a stream of consciousness.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I don't know if anyone mentioned this but rm has been in the rap scene since he was around 14/15 yrs old and people were LITERALLY SCARED of being put against him. He had the most amazing lyrics and social commentary since that time and that's the reason why their ceo was impressed with rm too. So much that the ceo created bts around this kid he found after listening to one song. He's respected in the rap scene in korea, for a reason
“That boy good” the coming to America reference, I love her😂😂👏🏾 Awesome reaction guys🔥
Yes please do Change with Wale too.
this song is sooo dope
🔥🔥🔥
🙏🏽🔥🔥
Can you please stop saying this?? Joke is in no way meaningless. Not by lyrics, neither by its intention. If you don't understand his lyrics and wordplay, just say that and then go read what he means.
@@lightefilit he literally said himself that the song has no real meaning, go touch some grass.
@@k_.2659 read above, GiRl
RM said he no longer wanna refer to himself as a "Rap Monster" beacause he is, and I quote, "A beautiful human being, not a monster". Please refer to him as either just RM or "Real Me".
they know.
They don't understand
@@louzagmi5075 Go away with your negative ass.
He already overgrown with that name now his using RM which means REAL ME. RM indeed good lyric writer Gosh His and his bts brothers are Koreas special presidential envoy for future generations
RM = Real Me
Honestly a coincidence that it ended up being the same initials as Rap Monster 😂😂
RM mixtape RM is one of my favorites. The evolution to RM 2 is great and I love it, but RM1 is just amazing.
RM mixtape is full of anger, angst and defiance. Mono is introspective and healing. Different emotions, different sounds.
RM officially changed his name into "REAL ME "
AND this was before he had inner peace
He released his last album under real me,- named "MONO"
the whole album is like 180 from his previous songs
One person said the whole album is like you are sitting beside window, it's raining ,and suddenly RM is there with hot cup of coffee
He hugs you while you sip in the coffee and talk about you in silence
Mono is still released under RM, what r u talking abt?? And he changed his stage name from rap monster to RM in 2017 and he never clarified what it stands for exactly and that it can be like for real me but that isn't the official meaning.
With everything else u said tho u were on point
@@g100-w6j he again said it's "real me " = RM
IT STILL RM he just changed the meaning.. RM is official
So im not wrong, you are not wrong either
The white brother right on the spot - also ''the lyrical miracle'' :)
RM exceeds what it means to be Rap Monster - he is phenomenal with his flow, word play and performance!
RM admits he has now outgrown the name Rap Monster as he was only 18/19 when they debuted and joined Big Hit at 15/16! But he still goes by RM and has extended the meaning to Real Me.
13:10 *HE DID!!! Has no one told you guys yet? WALE AND RM COLLABED WITH A SONG CALLED "Change" and it's so good ㅠㅠ!!!! One of my favourites ever!!!*
No chorus ,9 flows straight BARS,that’s my RM
Once Suga said that in their time at underground, no one dare to compete RAP MONSTER 😉💜
Again really really appreciate y’all’s respectful comments and opinions!👏
We need more BTS, Coldplay and BTS My universe already out, BTS in United Nations performance in NYC. And some live performance.
Coming soon
Some RM collabs with other rappers would be:
*Change* with Wale (which was already said)
*Rush* with Krizz Kaliko
*Buckubucku* with MFBTY (a Korean hip hop crew made up of the founders of k-hiphop).
*Timeless* with Tiger JK (who is also a member of MFBTY, and is considered the godfather of k-hiphop).
*Gajah* with Gaeko (fair warning abt how freaky the MV is).
I also rec Suga x RM tracks too:
*Strange* (from Agust D's 'D-2' mixtape)
*All Night* (their collab with Juice Wrld).
Suga and RM They never comment when they received criticism from the other rapper, but they express it through their lyrics..!!!
Yesss my bias rm thank you♡
Best rapper in kpop My babbbbby joonie
I freaking love Joke, and this reaction
He was a child when he came up with that name. And he have now grown out of it and changed it to RM.
Y’all got to react to “Rap Monster” by RM! His cadences and flow and rhymes to that song is out of this world!
Got you lol
Love that they love RM as I much as I do,lol! Would love to see their reaction to RM’s “Monster”.
"Awakening" & "Life" are underrated.
Redemption 46 needs to check CHANGE Wale and RM collab.
My boy RM is a poet at heart, a great songwriter but get him angry he will insult you with some really twisted & nasty words lol.
You're channel makes my days. I can't wait for you to hit em with that Serendipity Live proformance 🥰
Yeah, the underground rap scene tried to punk him for going K-Hop, but RM let 'em know he didn't forget his roots.
He did a feature with a singer named Younha. It's called Winter flower...it's amazing! You guys should listen to it as well!!!
They wrote their very first songs entirely by themselves, therefore they are the best, you have to react to the old songs 💣🖤💯
And that's why you don't want to piss this man off. He will roast you 7 ways, rehydrate you, then roast you all over again.
HECK YES!! Happy you guys love it. Cant wait to see more.
Joke is no joke hahahah
RM has a lot of collaborations with non idols, rappers and singers alike! He even collaborated with Fall Out Boy. Suga does as well!
You guys are legit the only reactors I follow & watch. Yessss to bangtan content!! Please do August D the last
Thanks for the love
We got you
I just wanted to say I love your reaction videos , my favorite reaction channel right now. keep it going !🔥🔥🔥

I love rapline so much but He’s (joon) my favorite rapper … he can do everything for real like imagine doing a song like Joke and then go do something like bicycle 🔥🤯..two deferent songs but the same amazing rapper….
he’s the main Rapper in the group for a reason 💜
Another song you all will enjoy is from BTS’ rap-line called “DDAEDANG”. Looking forward to seeing your reactions to this song!
NO YOU DID NOT ! About time REDEMPTION 46 ! CLASSIC ! . MUCH LOVE...................................................................................................
I swear RM is so talented. On some live concert he switched his "Boy with luv" verse from english to korean to japanese effortlessly.
The rap monster is really monster 👹
Exactly
Rapper Bobby from the group Ikon dissed RM once on stage... I heard rumors that this song was RMs response to the diss... I read in an interview that he considered Bobby's diss a "light jab" to he responded back with a light jab, at the end RM saying hit me was his way of saying what you got next.. and they never responded back...
Omg I’ve been waiting for this
He's not Rap Monster no more, he passed that. He is now President Kim NamJoon. No Joke.
The best rapper in kpop🔥
The thing is he is not dissing anyone. He made this song to prove to those unknown rapper that he can indeed rap. the way he changes flows and jump from syllables to syllables and just freaking rap. most “rapper” was mocking him or “joking” for having Rap Monster as his stage name when he is in the kpop group. and those said rappers were someone who he looked up to and friends with since he was in underground rapper before he debuted. So yea, no special context to the song it’s just for the people who degrades him.
RM's rap songs are just- no filter. no filter AT ALL.
Bts louder than bombs and vocal line House of cards live with lyrics, Truth untold live with lyrics, and Dimple
There are valid reasons why RM is main rapper in BTS....
RM other persona : a leader who even can solve a super difficult question such as : Mathematics mix CRYPTOGRAM! (secret code! Can u believe that? Secret code!). His other nick name : Brain Monster.
This react so Fire🔥🔥🔥
Thank you
I was reading some comments about what this song was and stuff- And there are some who say this song is just "meaningless".

Waiting for you guys to have reaction with HIP HOP LOVER live performance :-)
I love her reaction...💜💜💜😂
Loving the reactions. Please also react to RM 'Do You'. Its also a fire track.
RM is the leader of BTS for norhing..since bang got him...he expect nothing less
Yall really have to listen to all their cyphers
I'm looking forward to your reaction to RM's collab with Wale in "Change" 😁
Bts Paradise lyric video, Jin Epiphany lyrics than live performance, V singularity mv than live, jimin Serendipity lyrics than stage mix and Jungkook euphoria lyrics than live performance
loved the reaction, everyone always sleeps on RM’s first mixtape, i hope you guys can react to the rest of the songs on his mixtape, my personal favorites are God Rap and Monster :D His most recent mixtape Mono is also great, way different vibe but that’s because he’s matured and isn’t as angry as he was back then
also idk if you guys know but after namjoon changed his stage name he’s said that RM stands for Real Me not Rap Monster
You should have also shown them the MV.
