I LIVE IN COLOMBIA AND LOVE JAPANESE MAPLES. FOR YEARS, I TRIED TO GERMINATE SEEDS THE CONVENTIONAL WAY. SPHAGNUS MUSK, SAND, PEAT, MOSS ETC. I FINNALLY TRIED WITH YOUR ADVICE. I SIMPLY SOAKED THEM FOR 1 DAY, TOOK THEM INTO A ZIPBAG AND PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE FOR 2 MONTHS. THEN I TOOK THEM OUT AND AFTER A WEEK THE FIRST ROOTS STARTED TO SPROUT. SIMPLE. NATURAL. LOGIC. THANKS A LOT.
This is great! I'm thinking of germinate Japanese blue maple seeds this year and i read about just putting them in a pot of regular soil, put the seeds in em and put a thin layer of soil over it and just let it stay in your garden through the winter and when spring comes your tree will come up!
I read an article that said the best way to get Japanese maple seeds to collect them in the fall and plant them before the frost and leave them all winter. A layer of insulation from snow keeps them freezing, I bet that's what the leaves did for your maple seeds.
Nature is truly a beautiful thing. I am about to germinate some seeds for some gorgeous Crimson King Norway Maples. Awesome video! It's nice to see people who are intrigued by Earth's natural beauty and processes!
Mesmerizing indeed! So glad to have stumbled upon this video. I am specifically looking for red maple and so was happy to see that this worked for you. I have gathered seeds from a red maple down the street from me and I am inclined to throw them into a pile of leaves and see what happens. Although there are Japanese maple saplings sprouting up around the neighborhood my daughter asked me not to plant that as she says that it is invasive. SO I will try my hand with the red maple - which I actually like very much but have not found the saplings that readily.
Love it! The proof is always in the pudding. I have mini nurseries now all over my property of maple and oak tree seedlings from all the wood chips and leaves dumped from many landscaping companies. I just keep them watered for now and will transplant all of the to areas all over my property this fall or winter when they go dormant. I’m guessing it’s best to dig them up after they go dormant?
You just need to go under the tree in march after snow melt and there they are germinating. I did that i picked them up and they already growing in my pot. I also found germinating chestnuts and acorns (red oak) under the trees. That's the easiest way. All under leaves.
that is very cool.....Im in the process of germinating maple seeds right now and not having the best luck. And there nature is in full effect doing it the way God intended.....amazing vid, enjoy those sprouts, you are planting them right?
It's ironic how we make things so difficult when the answer is much easier and all around us in nature. The other Japanese maple seed video I recently uploaded is a very successful method and is ironically the easiest method I know of. Good luck with the seeds!
Regular maples defintly sprout from seed easy .i get them all over my yard .japenese maples seeds not so .they defintly need help .ive planted them outside 1st year nothing second year they came up .seems like it takes two years for japenese maples outside i cover them with small square fence so rodents ,sqirrels, and birds cant get them.this will be the 2nd year this time i collected thousands of seeds from all over town.i was scounting trees out all summer .i may go outside once a week and spray wayer on them that may help them break dormacy i think
I fricking hate those things. I've got several high trees close to my yard and every year I'm pulling litterally thousands of seedlings from my property from februari onwards: beds, lawn, up on walls!! and compost heap.

Simple is always better. Great job!

+bluesboydude Perfect! Nature does a better job when left to do its own thing.
There aren't any blue maples yet on this planet
@@rangbaz156 There are many blue maples.... in norway

More than likely. It was fun to see these little guys popping up in the leaves.

If you haven't already seen it, here's a little series I did about germinating red leaf maples: ua-cam.com/video/UCycSgaeJxg/v-deo.html
Red maples germinate after 10 days only in warm temps

Yep, wait until dormancy. They'll have a stronger root system by next winter too.

Yes, it's true. We find thousands under our big leaf maples every year.
You germinated those seeds like I propagated the Anazib rain forest

You've got great vids, keep making them, are you guys in the Pacific Northwest?
+joelyboyblue Yep, about a 45 minute drive west of Mt Rainier.
