Almost 10 years later and I still come back here from time to time. I remember how excited I was for this and how much I wanted to read this. The book was amazing and it needs to continue in some form. JJ please make it happen.
This was a great book. I'd love to see the movie version of this. But given it is a book with two narratives (the author writing the story and the conversation between the male and female characters via scribbled notes in the pages) the depth and length material would probably warrant a TV series. We're waiting Mr Abrams...
Please make this a movie or 10 part series. So much potential here... The book is fantastic by the way, if you're considering reading it. And buy a hard copy with all the clues inside. It's awesome.
And that, ladies and germs, is how you do a Trailer. Build anticipation, don't give away the whole movie, and leave 'em wanting more! Well done, JJ Abrams...well done.
I love the people in the comments who are all "Oh yeah, I love this movie.", you guys are living proof that people are just as stupid as society thinks they are.
Plot. The ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus's paradox, is a paradox that raises the question of whether an object which has had all its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.
I hope the trailers stay this way. I love not knowing what the movie is about before going to the movies, just like the Super 8 trailers. (well, they just don't show the monster)
It's a novel. 1 book, 2 readers. A woman picks up a book left by a stranger. In it are his side notes, obsessed by the novel. She leaves here own notes and so a relationship builds.
I read the book. It’s good. Creative narration. However... I feel like the novelty outweighs the story. Like it couldn’t stand on its own as a straight forward story.
Thank you very much. Now I'm actually interested. J.J. Abrams enigmatic attitude towards every project he's involved in now is getting really annoying to me personally. A few years ago trailers gave away the entire plots to films and that was annoying too, but it's nice to at least know the gist of a story before spending 8-12 bucks to see it. So... thanks again.
Men are erased and reborn... Its all true, everything he wrote Every sentence, every word, everything we read... its real. They found him, and there coming. Oh please don't go back No matter what you do, don't go back their going to find you.
"The book: Ship of Theseus, the final novel by a prolific but enigmatic writer named V.M. Straka, in which a man with no past is shanghaied onto a strange ship with a monstrous crew and launched onto a disorienting and perilous journey."
JJ abrams needs to settle down a bit. He's doing so many projects right now, his biggest obviously being the biggest film enterprise of all time. He needs to make that his biggest priority.
So it's a book... J. J. Abram's new book apparently... But it's written by Doug Dorst....? I don't get it? Where does J. J. Abrams come into the picture then? :S
FlameLeviosa I think a film adaptation would be a shame. Abrams build a great narrative and an engaging artifact. Like Danielewski's house of Leaves, a film can't convey what makes it precious.
Go on the website at the end. It's a book guys. Maybe a book before a movie. I would love to see that. A book and after you read it, their making a movie about those who read the book :O SHIT
Almost 10 years later and I still come back here from time to time. I remember how excited I was for this and how much I wanted to read this. The book was amazing and it needs to continue in some form. JJ please make it happen.
I agree brother. I’m still waiting.

If you listen closely enough @ 0:23 there's a faint voice that says something but I can't make it out.
I just got this book and I’m reading all the comments from 7 years ago 😂
And that, ladies and germs, is how you do a Trailer. Build anticipation, don't give away the whole movie, and leave 'em wanting more! Well done, JJ Abrams...well done.
J.J. Abrams and no lens flares? That's a first in a long time.
I love the people in the comments who are all "Oh yeah, I love this movie.", you guys are living proof that people are just as stupid as society thinks they are.
At the end the man says "the book is just the beginning" maybe its a book now then they'll make it a movie. Who knows
I need answers about this book
Seriously
This is mind blowing
J.J, & Nolan are really the ONLY guys that can make a trailer that doesn't reveal too much of the film. I fucking love that.
i always liked jj adams trailers, he doesn't show off half of the movie in the trailers, he keeps you in the dark
Plot.
The ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus's paradox, is a paradox that raises the question of whether an object which has had all its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.
This is shot so beautifully...
JJ is a master of making you wanna watch it.
Even the title is a mistery, well played J.J. Abrams, well played.
The voice in the trailer sounds like Leonard Nimoy.
My title for this movie:
Camera + lights = action - The birth of lens flare
you deserve a golden star for that one
J.J did the same thing with the trailer of cloverfield but we didn't know the title to the movie
I hope the trailers stay this way. I love not knowing what the movie is about before going to the movies, just like the Super 8 trailers. (well, they just don't show the monster)
oh, the new McDonalds commercial... I like it :)
Why are most people assuming this is remake of something? Judging by Abrams' track record, I'd guess this is something quite original.
I was thinking Frankenstein and Phantom of the Opera. I don't know, the typewriter looked like an organ for a moment.
Kinda makes me want to check out the book.
(because that's what this is advertising, if you paid any attention)
"The book is just the beginning."
Damnit JJ! you giving us homework now?!
It's a novel. 1 book, 2 readers. A woman picks up a book left by a stranger. In it are his side notes, obsessed by the novel. She leaves here own notes and so a relationship builds.
All I got from the was emm...Oh thats right I didnt get shit from that

Me neither...
What are you doing to me J.J.!!!! I NEED TO KNOW!!!
I read the book.
It’s good. Creative narration.
However...
I feel like the novelty outweighs the story. Like it couldn’t stand on its own as a straight forward story.

Wish it was a tv show

Men are erased
and reborn...
Its all true, everything he wrote
Every sentence, every word, everything we read... its real.
They found him, and there coming.
Oh please don't go back
No matter what you do, don't go back
their going to find you.

If you took 5 seconds to look at the bloody website you'd know it's a book.
i thought it was a actual website
The Scarlet Letter.
Is that narrator the same guy who plays old Spock in the JJ Abram's Star Trek??
JJ abrams needs to settle down a bit. He's doing so many projects right now, his biggest obviously being the biggest film enterprise of all time. He needs to make that his biggest priority.
Yes it is... the books name is Stranger soonyouwillknow. com
I love a good JJ Abrams teaser trailer! Get's me excited everytime! I don't know why it does even if the content is ambiguous! Exclamation mark!
im not sure i want to know
If you go to it now it shows the book 'Stranger'....
its a trailer for a book thats being written, i assume the book will be written first, then a movie will follow. different. i like the idea.
Soundtrack??
Not a movie, its a novel...go to the site shown at the end.
should of played that off man haha
So it's a book... J. J. Abram's new book apparently... But it's written by Doug Dorst....? I don't get it? Where does J. J. Abrams come into the picture then? :S
Really reminded me of a cartoon movie called "9" anyone else?
Nope just you
Smokey Le Bear oh thanks I figured that after 6 years and no reply lmao
Kris Garcia haha 😂 hope you’re doing well after all this time
That voice sounds like Christopher Plummer!
Anyone know the music?
A book! Awesome
PREPARE FOR LENS FLARE!!!
Why is he working on anything other than Star Wars Episode VII right now?
HOLY SHIT! It's a book??!!!!!
Guys its a book. Look up the website.
Wait.. It's a book? O.O
No that Doug guy is an author, and if you bothered to reasearch you would know
J.J goes to film school
A fucking book awesome j.j. Abrams u never seize to disappoint
IT'S NOT A MOVIE! IT'S A BOOK!
Some "The Crow - Resurrection?" ;)
This makes the books seem way more interesting than it actually is. Not as good a book as I thought it would be
Whats that ?
So they made a teaser and a trailer for a book and its on a movie trailers website? Seems legit.
Did this ever come out?
Yes, it came out. It's a trailer for an amazing multi-layered meta book.
It's Khan
Probably sure no one knew that the teaser was for a book, now i guess they're showing it to clarify that it's a trailer for a fuckin book.
okay JJ we get it its a movie about lemony snicket
To ask?
For what offence, was I condemned to death in my mother's womb?
It’s true all of it.
Is it the book of Suzuki?
Has someone restrained mr. Lindelof so he can't muck it up?
scared the fuck out of me
I know it's a book but will it be a movie as well? Why does it have a trailer?
A lot of books have trailers :)
And currently S is only a book, but with J.J Abrams involved I'm pretty sure there'll be a movie adaptation!
FlameLeviosa I think a film adaptation would be a shame. Abrams build a great narrative and an engaging artifact. Like Danielewski's house of Leaves, a film can't convey what makes it precious.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!?
ALSO UNRELATED BUT HOW DO I TURN OFF CAPS-LOCK?
The Crow, L.A. Noire, Condemned, Alan Wake? I dont know D:
it´s me or the narrator´s voice was Leonard Nimoy??
My vote is for The Slender Man...
In the mouth of madness.
Stranger
Scarlett Letter
Go on the website at the end. It's a book guys. Maybe a book before a movie. I would love to see that. A book and after you read it, their making a movie about those who read the book :O SHIT
After cloverfield i never gave him a chance again
Oh wait, it's an actual novel written by JJ...so there's no movie?
That looks tight!
i hate the new youtube settings...
Ship of Theseus
Novel trailers now?
Looks Pretty Good, But I Don't gone be so waiting for this after Super 8, that movie was..........Medium!
excellent filmmaking lol good DOP/director
Could this be true?? it´s really J.J. Abrams turning into M Night Shyamalan??
.... that link in the end kinda ruined the trailer... it was just a little "eh", but the rest of the trailer was intriging as fuck
