The drummer Rick Allen is such a major inspiration....he lost his arm in a car accident but the band refused to replace him and a special drum kit was created for him...he is still with the band to this day
I think he got better after the accident.
Speaks a lot to the character of his bandmates that they didn't just have him replaced.
Actually Rick designed the drum kit himself, just makes him even more of an inspiration for what he accomplished and how difficult I imagine it had to be. The rest of the band were great standup guys which is why they stayed together and never broke up.
Hey Rick, where from?
Sadly Steve passed not too long from this video
If you look closely, the drummer is always only drumming with one arm. That's because, due to an accident, he only HAS one arm. His drum kit is specially set up, so that he can drum with his one arm and his feet. The band didn't replace him, but instead, insured that he could continue to play with the band.
I've heard that this song, and a few other Def Leppard songs, are played in heavy rotation at Gentlemen's clubs around the country. I mean that's what I heard. 😁 😉
I can verify I heard that also, but cannot confirm in person ......
I can verify this to be true.
Interesting Hypothesis... I may need to do some scientific research in order to validate your claim.
@@chiefenumclaw7960 🤨 🤔 😁 😄 😂 🤣
Truth even in Canada lol
I saw them live back in the 80's when the album this song was on was released. Love this band. Brings back memories of fond times in High School. 😁
hell yes. saw them in concert in '89 what a show
You can never go wrong with Def Leppard Foolin
This.
This woman is amazing! Beauty and amazing taste in music. Can't say how cool that makes her!👍👍👍
So true, Jon! I feel ya.
These guys are the epitome of the phrase, "Never say die!", even for those who for some reason don't like their music, you have to respect their loyalty to each other and their music! PEACE!!!!!
Funny you mention "Anthem", this song didn't get much airplay. But it was a hit with Strippers in Florida, and exploded from there.
So this song was the stripper anthem of the late 80s.
;)
She is right. Mutt Lange specifically wanted to add Sugar to the Hysteria album for it's "arena rock anthem" quality - he told Def Leppard they were going to explode bigger than ever.
The Hysteria album had almost every song on it chart on the billboard. Love Bites was the other hit that you couldn't get away from. If you like ballads, Long, Long Way to Go, Tonight, and Miss You in a Heartbeat are hidden gems. In the way of anthems, Paper Sun and Demolition Man are another couple that feature their mature sound at the top of their game.
i love when u start feelin a song..the head nod n then that arm starts goin with the beat...thats what its all about..keep rockin Shiloh
This played in every strip club in the 90s
still played in strip clubs lol.
@@rorybisson756 BAHAHAHA!!! It'll probably be played in strip clubs til the end of time!!!! ;) ;) Awesome song and Love Def Leppard though.... Saw them when I was 17 (in '87, time flies!!). Killer show!! :)
Lol … 4-5 song sets for the girls and the ones making money had this one and “Love Bites”, both by DL! Still works!!!
This, "She's My Cherry Pie" and "Closer". Those are some songs you always hear at strip clubs.
i can confirm that. (also in australia)
Seen them live in concert on this exact tour ....THEY ROCK LIVE!!!
Yes, they were THE band that year. So many hits from that album. I saw them on that tour too. Never heard so many screaming high school & college girls in my life.
@@detomaso_6235 lol
Yeah me too. Actually seen them 6 times, twice within 6 months (Jan & July 1988)
Rock of ages
Photograph
When love and hate collide
Armageddon it
Love bites
One of my favorite ROCK Songs...those drums and Voice !!
I just about wore this CD out when it came out, I had it on repeat so often.
Love Def Leppard! RIP Steve Clark.
I remember first getting this tape as it was being passed around Jr. High and every kid in our school was having their minds blown. Piling into old beater cars that some kid had with like 6 kids crammed into both front and back seats to get to shows. No seatbelts, the girls were automatic lap riders and I don't remember hearing one complain it was sexist. The parking lots at these stadium shows was an incredible experience in itself. Being out of shape and shirtless in public back then when nobody just thought you were crazy or homeless for doing so. What a wonderful time we had back then
Love you're reaction to this song. Def leppard music would always get you in an upbeat mood.
I LOVE Def Leppard and this is my favorite Def Leppard song
Try:
Bringing on the Heartbreak
Rock of Ages
Hysteria
Won't be disappointed.
Shiloh you'd probably like Animal, Hysteria, Photograph, Rock of Ages, Love Bites from this band. They had about a dozen big hits. Love Bites is the one the girls swooned for.
After the car crash took his arm, Rick Allen came back to the studio where the band had been recording. Nobody ever talked about replacing him or what they were going to do. They were just happy he was back and he'd just go into a room by himself....and spent his days figuring out how he could drum with one arm - setting up to drum with his feet, and practicing day after day. The band admits now, they were just happy he was doing something, but in the back of their minds of course he could never do what he once did. One day he called them into the room and proceeded to play one of their hits in their entirety on his new setup using his feet. By the end all of them were in tears.
We used to ride around in 1984 jamming this album on the backroads of our small town! ❤😊
Ok can you please recognize the badass one armed drummer?
she dont understandkkkkkkkkkkk
You understand how monstrous this band is at this time. This album was # 2 just under Michael Jackson's BAD album.
Oh it was definitely a party song at the parties I went to in my teens and all the way up to my mid-20s. The song would come on, everyone would start cheering and we'd all sing right along. I still know the lyrics to this day. 😁
Shiloh! Love your reaction! Did you notice Rick Allen the one armed drummer. Def Leppard is the epitome of Rock Bros!! When Rick got in his accident they waited for him to recover!!
I don't know why,.. but it makes me happy that you like bands like Def Leppard and Metallica.
Awesome so g , great band. And you are a BEAUTIFUL woman, love your reactions to old school music.
Grew up going to concerts in the 70"s- late 80's
The term "head-bangin" was coined after Def Leppard played their first song. No joke.
Thank you so much for doing this one! One of the BEST songs of that era!
I was at a lytham festival the other day and they was playing this song also I was right at the front in front of the stage and Phil Collen the guitarist throw me his guitar pick after they finished playing. Great band and song also a song that gets the crowd hyped up and singing along too definitely now how to put on a show at a great concert
Just finished watching your reaction to the Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody. Your reaction was real and priceless. When I was a young Marine in Vietnam I heard it for the first time and sent a letter to my girlfriend in the States saying I believe this is the right song from me to her. Her letter back was so emotional (in a good way). The war was a living Hell, me being a Special Forces Marine and life expectancy very short plus so many fellow guys getting dear john letters I just wanted something to hang on to. Anyway, thank you for being a part of the video. By the way she passed a few years ago but memories are so strong.
2 Def Leppard songs that I would recommend, that I don't think anyone else would ever react to, are "Promises" and "Torn To Shreds"
This is the definition of a rock anthem. Song was HUGE in 88.
My favourite rock band as a teenager! I saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto years ago. Watching Rick drum with one arm was just incredible. They had so many hits, but Rock of Ages is still my favourite.
The whole Hysteria Album is good. I recommend listening to the whole thing. The album before Hysteria (Pyromania) was very good as well. One of my personal favourites. You won't regret listening to both of those albums.
This song almost did not make the album, “Hysteria.” It was added on last minute by the suggestion of their producer, Robert “Mutt” Lange.
Mutt Lange is an awesome producer ... was married to Shania Twain
@@raginghippy6696 until he cheated on her with her best friend.
I saw this tour in 1988. I still haven't got my voice back.
Hysteria is one of my favorite def leppard songs...the 80s was a cool decade
Glad you finally got around to them. Couldn't wait to see your reactions
I'm 38, up until I was about 24, I took this song literal and imagined having sugar poured on me when I would hear and sing this song, then it clicked, they're not singing about actual sugar. .... True Story .... One of my all time favorite songs. Also notice the drummer, Richard Allen had one arm.
It's about going down on a woman for those that don't get it lol
This brings back memories, as a teen I was kind of a metal head but into Iron maiden, but I'd spend big parts of my summers at my cousin's in a neighboring town, and he was a big Def Leppard Fan and i'd hear this band all summer long.... my brain associate's this sound with summertime.
I wish I were you hearing this 4 the first time..like rap and rock..but who knew.lov it lov it love it!!!!
Love Bites, Foolin, Armaggedon, Photograph. All Def Leppard mega-hits.
As for this song, all females love this it regardless of age... It's a universal thing like with girls and flowers... 😉👍
This song was written by accident. Writer /producer Mutt Lange took a break, probably for the bathroom. Phil Collen was noodling on guitar. Mutt Lange returned to the studio liking what he geard + said, "We gotta record this!" Joe Elliott, Rick Savage + late Steve Clark finished the song. Rest is history in 1987! 😎
Fast forward to 1991, #30years ago. 🎂 Mutt Lange + Huey Lewis 🇺🇲 wrote It Hit Me Like a Hammer, album released on 7 May that year. Big hit. 😎
Then, Mutt Lange went to Vancouver + London to write + produce with Bryan Adams 🇨🇦. Michael Kamen 🇺🇲 wrote music for the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner 🇺🇲. Mutt Lange took the music from the 2nd repeat of the chorus + the outro of Piur Some Sugar Me, modified the key + placed the modified sample into the bridge of the song Everything I Do I Do It for You. Result? 🤔 Billboard Song of 1991. 🤯
Mutt Lange has many more hit songs he wrote and/or produced. 🐕
Indeed. "Anthem Rock" is what we called it, back in the day. I think this song came out when I was in college. A few suggestions: "More Than A Feeling" (Boston); "When Passion Rules The Game" (Scorpions); "Monkey Business" (Skid Row); "Wild Side" (Motley Crue); "Danger Zone" (Kenny Logins)...
Def Leppard yeah! this one's a slow banger 🔥🤘🤘🤘
Hey Shilo glad to see you today and can't wait for this reaction
Shiloh... This is one of those songs that MUST be forever played at near ear-splitting volume in order to be TRULY enjoyed 🤘😝🤘. It’s an absolute classic & unless you’re getting the cops knocking on your door to address many noise complaints from your neighbours, you’re not doing it right!!! 🤣🤣🤣.... Nah, I’m just kidding!!! 😂😂😂 For us “headbangers at heart”, we will ALWAYS “flash the devil horns” (🤘😈🤘) & bang our heads until we have some serious headaches when this song is played . Thankyou so much for this classic flashback. Take care & much love always from 🇦🇺Australia🇦🇺❤️❤️❤️
Rick Allen is a true inspiration. He lost his left arm in a car accident. Rick didn't give up on his dream. And because Rick didn't give up he became the greatest drummer ever. And his band mates stopped touring because they felt like they were not! going to replace Rick. That's brotherhood that's love.
The 80's were always a party
One of the first songs I leaned when starting to play bass. Good choice :)
Best one arm drummer i know of. Alot of great song from these guys.
one of the worlds strongest drummers and yet he only has one arm the guy is a legend
Back in the day ALL the girls would scream for this one 😉
Dudes too.
Back in the day? They still scream for it now!
Sending the love of people reacting to my jam across YT. Peace!
One of my favorite 80s bands
1980s ROCK N ROLL.... Def Leppard has about 24 Great songs....
YOURE BAAAAACK!!! MISSED YOU!!! LOVE YA!!!
Ooh wee this was totally my jam back in the day and still is
They had a lot of hits try photograph by def leopard 🐆 I think you will like that one , and glad you liked this song
She reacted to that song already, check it out.
Listen to "Let It Go" out of their first album called High N Dry, that's the opening song of their career. You'll instantly realize what the drummer was actually capable of doing before losing an arm in a traffic accident.
Trivia: Metallica's Master of Puppets album was recorded with Rick Allen's (drummer) snare piece since Lars specifically asked from him to use it and he told that he was honored to be asked of such a thing and shipped the piece from England to Denmark, back then when they were recording Master of Puppets album in Kopenhagen in 1986.
the drummer Rick Allen lost his left arm in a car accident and designed a drum set where he can play what he use to with his left arm with his left foot! watch Rick Allen's drum solo!
Great song!! Enjoyed watching you enjoying this😜🌹
You're right in my timeline :) Back then I really liked Def Leppard, but I loved the Scorpions and the Cars first 2 albums!
In 1984 my sister flew my niece out to denver for def leppard..i was her chaperone. They video taped this show and my niece actually was in a part of the video..She still smiles ear to ear about that video.lol
seen them in 86 it was the second show after Rick lost his arm they had a second drum kit on the stage in case they needed it
Love def Leppard!! My favorite is Love Bites
OMG how did I not see your reaction to this…..❤️U!!!!
Awesome song and reaction, deep rabbit hole here for sure
"Love And Affection" is their most under rated song ever, give it a listen.
Too late for love has always been a fav of mine
Your lovin the layering as much as I did the first time I heard it
If you could create the perfect 80s commercial rock band in a laboratory, you'd create Def Leppard.
Boston
More than a Feeling🤘🤘🤘🤘🇦🇺
That was a great concert. Alpine Valley Wisconsin.
The hysteria album this song comes from released single after single onto radio for what must have been a couple years
Love your smile!
Wow, while I did sub your channel, I did not ring the bell. Now that you played my boys from Sheffield, Da Leps, I am ringing the brass off that bell. I have been a Def Lep fan probably longer than you been alive. Props to you, Shiloh, my lovely.
Their concerts was Amazing!!!
Their concerts are still amazing...
those late 80 to 90s arena shows were epic
Since Father day coming up listen to t"the Ole Man by the Irish Tenor. Great song. Little sad as well.
Definitely more def leopard awsome band
The album was flopping till this song hit the Florida strip clubs and then , well it became a legendary one. Nice reaction
Go back & watch the video again & pay real close attention to the drummer . He's the best drummer ever .
I seen it in concert twice loved it
Hysteria, Bringin on the Heartbreak, Too Late, many many others!
Believe it or not it is a Stripper anthem. Strippers across the United States danced to this song when it came out lol.
Everyone's fave part...1 lump or 2!🎶🎸🤘
My top 3 favorite song of ALL TIME!!!
Check out their In the Round 88 performances as well as Sheffield 93 performances
One of the greatest comeback stories ever! Lynard Skynard’s too
I won the bass player's (Rick Savage) jacket he wore at the 1988/89 MTV music awards, it was in 2005, all proceeds went to help Hurricane Katrina victims! I paid $1000.00 USD! Still got it!!
You been living under a rock
In 2008, Def Leppard appeared on CMT Crossroads with then 19-year old Taylor Swift in front of a live audience. Swift's mother had been a huge Def Leppard fan, so she heard a lot of Def Leppard growing up. They helped each other out on their iconic songs. Taylor Swift joined in for "Pour Some Sugar on Me." It was a very surreal experience. You should be able to find the video on UA-cam somewhere.
Comin Under Fire, Photograph, Rock Of Ages, Hysteria or Stage Fright! 🤘
One of the great rock songs of all time.
Seriously, you watch def lepard without commenting the drummer... Check it again and Keep an eye on him. You will be even more amazed.
