It's funny that 95% of ALL cars sold in the U.S. are automatics, and yet, so many manual owners make nasty comments about people (yes, people, not the cars themselves), who buy automatics. There is a name for people who think they are better than 95% of the people in their own country, they're called douchebags. I've driven big rig trucks, with 10,13,15 and 18 speed transmissions, with double trailers, on mountain roads. Does that somehow make me manlier than some guy, who's never driven a big powerful truck, with 18 gears to shift? Do I have to turn in my "Man Card", for buying my 2012 auto Mustang, after owning 10 manual shift cars, in 35 years?
Most guys are so prissy, fussy, picky and whiny, when it comes to their preferred computers, phones and electronic devices, that will do everything for them, except wipe their butts. But, now all of a sudden, those same guys are super manly when it comes to their cars having manual shifters. What a load of crap! If you're so fucking manly, then why don't you just trash your precious cell phones and start building fires with only a knife, some sticks and dried leaves and learn how to send smoke signals? Because, that would be pretty fucking manly too.
If you're gonna give people crap for driving an auto, then don't you dare ever drink anything again, with the name "Latte" in it. And don't ever take a "selfie" and send it on your phone with the caption, "loving it". And don't ever buy a puppy or a cat for your wife or girlfriend (yeah, right! It was only for them). And don't ever order a drink that isn't beer or straight booze.
Honestly guys, it gets really old, hearing all this macho crap all the time. When I drove a beastly, old, big rig diesel truck, with 8 gears and two separate sticks that had to be shifted sequentially and independently, I didn't feel any more manly, than when I drive my auto Mustang and some pretty woman smiles at me says, "nice car". I'm still the same guy, no matter what I'm driving.

Yeah he kinda talks alot of crap on the auto, but I have one too. And I down shift it every day for shits and giggles. It's not needed but it's fun to rip around in the lower gears. Once you learn how it works then you know exactly how to time it and get a proper down shift. Hell I could show this guy how to do it better for his video lol 😆 And if you really want to rip into someone, just throw it in drive and haul ass. Also he never said anything about how reliable they are. I beat the hell out of mine, and takes it like a champ, already got 105 thousand on it too. For some reason I don't hear the same about those tremmec Manuels tho huh?? 🤔 These automatics are way underrated, and they are way cheaper then the Manuel too. I really don't get all the hate

I have a 2012 automatic with a BAMA tune, now the transmission works like it should from the factory, very crisp: at WOT, chirps in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I also upgraded to 3.73 gears and a Steeda CAI. Goes like a bat. I used to have a 2005 Mustang GT with a whipple - made 490 RWP and ran 12.006 in the 1/4. I think this car would give it a run. The 2013 has track apps that make it more fun to race as well.

  • @dannylynch4512
    @dannylynch4512 10 років тому +2

Same feelings about the auto in stock form BUT when you get an SCT tune done it changes EVERYTHING. The shift points are crisp and under WOT it shift EXACTLY at redline. Agree about the gearing too. Much better with 3.73 or 3.90's with an auto trans. The 4.10 is to steep for me and cuts into everyday gas mileage to much.

The Auto Transmission in a Mustang behaves differently whether its shifted into D or into S. On the 2013 Mustang, D is for daily driving and S is Sport Mode.

I test drove one today. In reality I drive a 03 V6. I did test drive an auto and it was pretty strong even though I went around a couple of blocks with it. I immediately felt the power when I barely got on the gas. I was really amazed how the car drove, when I let loose on the straight it had very good pick up and go. Today my dreams came true I'm actually looking forward to getting one in the near future even though the 15's are getting ready to come out. I'm still very much in love with this model. I might go tomorrow and do another test drive on the freeway to see how it feels since the salesmen seemed to be in a hurry.

How good is the automatic? Does it respond quick enough when you put your foot down? And you said something about the automatic that it doesn't let you rev it to the limit (about 7k rpm). Then what about when you use manual mode? Can you do rev-matching by downshifting and waiting a very few half seconds and then press the gas pedal?

  • @Sizeth82

I disagree with some of what is said in this video. 1st gear with the 6 speed auto is well over 4:1 ratio, which is very steep. A turbo 350 transmission has a 2.53:1 1st gear. That is why it comes with a 3.15 rear ratio, as the overall ratio is steep. Even 4th gear isn't a 1:1 ratio, many 4 speed autos actually have a 1:1 in 3rd gear, so this transmission is actually very well geared. I do agree with the delay in shifting in sport mode, however every review I read on these cars said the 6 speed manual is notchy and does not like to be shifted fast, so it is what it is. I am happy with the auto, reading from many of the faster 9/10/11 second cars, the auto trans is pretty much bullet proof. Finally, and this is just personal preference, I like the shifting on the stick better than on the wheel. It is a natural position to have a hand on the shifter when shifting, it has never felt natural to me to try to shift on the steering wheel.

  • @StormAutoAdventures

I bet if you add 3.73 or 4.10 gears & get an SCT 93 octane Race Tune which improves the shifts of the transmission on top of the power gains, this would be a great combo. I prefer a 6 speed manual, but I would never badmouth someone for choosing an automatic. It's their car, if they wanted a manual, they'd get a manual.

I have 2012 performance pack without rear camera and park assist, never had a visibility problem backing up into a parking slot or parallel park it. Also all those electronic gizmos in the cabin are nice but also very heavy, which is a no no for a performance car. IMHO the only useful options for lover tier V6 and GT are bucket seats and brakes. Some of the bigger dealerships like Galpin outside LA also offer pre-installed Ford Racing handling pack which completely transforms the ride quality.

Actually ZF box "as is" is pretty responsive and can handle upto 430ft-lb of torque with lesser power loss than MT82! BUT its software for digital clutches has been written by a someone who genuinely wanted it to have shift lag in first 3 gears in order to improve city MPG.

I personally prefer stick shift not just because of the mileage and price but also because it's just simply more fun to use .

I own a 2011 mustang 5.0 with the auto. Banging gears is fun, but i did not want to deal with the 6 speed manual that has issues when you power shift it.
The manuals are a little faster than the auto, auto has 3.15 gears, but the auto is no slouch, mine with a tune, cold air kit and x pipe ran 12.0 at116 on factory perelli tires. No issues and mine has 10K on it so far. Ive owned over 100 cars so far, autos are nice, 6 forward gears gotta love it:)

Maybe the transmission ratios are different, but I remember when GM introduced the 6 speed auto in the C6 Corvette for 2006 and it came with as they called aggressive 2.56 gearing. They claimed the 2.56 gearing in the 6 speed auto is equivalent to 3.90 gearing in the previous 4 speed automatic. Then for 2008 they made the 6 speed auto available with even more aggressive 2.73 gearing which is equivalent to 4.10 gearing in a 4 speed automatic. Now this 6 speed auto in the 5.0 is 3.31 and you're saying it's extremely tall. That's pretty strange because the transmission gearing in the 3.31 geared 6 speed manual transmission in the 5.0 is a lot more aggressive than the 3.42 gearing in the 6 speed manual Corvette... Even more aggressive than the Z51 3.42 gearing which is shorter in the first three gears. I figured it would be the same with the automatic?

I live in Canada as well and I grew up around Mustangs and Camaros. I remember the year Ford decided to increase the price of the Mustang because they wanted it to compete with the Corvette instead of the Camaro. Increasing the price doesn't automatically make the car better. That was a very risky move because the Mustang is one of Ford's best sellers. People were already on the fence with imports and now Ford has made their mind up for them. I love the Mustang but not for that price.

Goin' back to the '60's 'bout automatics and street quick.. The chances of getting off the line or going from the crack of 30 are much improved with an automatic and torque converter. Stick a good rear like 3:73 or above in back of almost any automatic even an old Powerglide overcomes the chances of executing a perfect launch and 2 or 3 perfect powershifts. 5.0 auto's are indeed street quick.

This guy is a tool, first off the Automatic is much faster in a drag race than the manual, reason for this is the first gear is 4.06 in the transmission, while the manual uses 3.66 first gear ratio. That is exactly the reason why ford didn't equip the mustang standard with anything higher than a 3:31:1 rear axle ratio. The car has a hard enough time keeping traction for the that low of a transmission first gear, let alone slapping some 3:73s to the automatic. Second they have made fast improvements in the shifting patterns of the automatic to make it competitive whether you drag race or auto cross it. This is exactly the reason why i dislike non technical savvy people reviewing cars that give the wrong information out and discouraging people.

On second thought, probably a good thing because of my love for speed. Now, I'm happy just getting to where I need to go. Unfortunately it is really hot here. I'm in Vancouver, B.C. We are in the middle of a dry spell. Have a great day. Nice chatting with you :)

This is not the base GT, it's the premium. For the 2015 GT, I personally didn't go for the premium and got the performance package with manual instead. It all costs less and is a very good bargain for the performance.

yea i think your right, i kno it as the Ford 6R Series tho, lol i still like the 6-speed auto tho, its way more capable of producing better numbers than the standard option on the Mustang, reason why Ford gives the automatics a higher gear ratio (3.15) than the lower 3.73 gear ratio thats on all standard 5.0s.. which makes ppl think the auto Mustang is boring but really is not.. :) they do it on purpose..

I switch back and forth between auto and manual regularly. Manual is more fun, more control of car no doubt. But those that hate rush hour, automatic is a valid choice. I also find it easier to fuck with radio/ipod, talk on cell (not text), eat, etc with auto. My 5.0 is auto (slightly used so didnt get to pick trans) but its tuned and its a beast. Lol i remember my TA had such a shitty cupholder that driving manual was a total pain in the ass when had a drink in vehicle

yea i kno my man, the 6-Speed Auto has DUAL-CLUTCH which helps shift even faster than any person could with a standard trans. but as the man said, Ford gave the auto GT "Higher" Gear (3.31) instead of the "Lower" Gear (3.73) option, aka Faster Acceleration On All 6 Gears, to keep ppl thinking that a "Muscle Car" will always be better standard not Auto, times hav changed, just look at the GTR, has the same auto Mustang 6-Speed trans AND DOES 2.7 Sec. 0-60 MPH with the better Turbo they put.. :)

I knew of a few in the 9s with the stock auto, but this one touched 8s. That transmission is bulletproof and the best hidden secret. I have talked to transmission builders about it and they have all said the same thing, a hidden treasure.

honestly that really depends on the person on which transmission is best. i know alot of people have egos and tout this is the best way or only way, but realistically thats BS. some people dont want a manual. and the times in testing between the two are virtually identical so its down to user preference. not an opinion, just a fact.

It's pretty obvious that Kevin Gordon doesn't have a lot of experience with this shift-able automatic transmission. First of all, it will allow you to run to redline and squeal the tires into 2nd gear, as long as you don't wait until redline to hit the button. After experimenting with my 2013 auto GT, I found that shifting right before redline allowed for a very powerful fast shift at redline. Second, if you reach 4th, 5th or 6th, the car will auto downshift all the way back to 1st on it's own.

Bad points of the GT, the dash rattles, and the bushing for that fancy rear sway bar squeak. On a long trip the exhaust drone gets to you, and it not so great backing it up. Good points, it is built like an F150, and very durable, and get great MPG for a powerful car.

(continuación) > Another thing is the 2010 Ford Mustang (I have one of those) presents a grill very wide, very American Car feature. The 2013 version has a rare turbin grill wich it reduced measures, giving the impresion of more little, more dynamic, but less ellegant. 2010 grille is wide enought like a Mustang made in early '64, the lateral window like '67 model, the rear shape like '70, interior very 1965, etc. The new 2013 nose belongs to nothing previous Mustang. May I give my opinion about 2013 Mustang version? Well. If you notice the most important change is the frontal curved air grill shape, (rounded like Cobra previous years made). I think that this rounded design does not correspondes to the rest of lines of car, wich they are more angular. Please check looking bac side, you will notice borders are angulars, not curved like new 2013 frontal. It is some thing that I don´t like, cause it is a restyling not according with the rest of car shape.

Many reasons, not to exclude those of us that can't use both of our legs. It's all about options I think. Sure, manual would be more fun but the alternative for some would be to not be able to drive it if the auto wasn't available.

i kno it as the Ford 6R Series as the name to that transmission, but yea, you may be right..lol but still, the point is that transmission is way more capable of producing better numbers than the standard, reason why Ford gives its automatic Mustangs a higher gear ratio (3.15) compared to the standard Mustang's lower 3.73 gear ratio.. which makes the automatic give better fuel economy and top speed but not as fast acceleration which keeps ppl thinking automatics cannot be competitive.. ;)

Just got a 2014 Auto with Recaro. Love it.. the auto tranny on a stock tune SUCKS.. so I understand why he said flush it.. BUT with a tune its great! The 6 speed manual is a weak hunk of junk. The auto is strong! Have Lund do his tune on it and it's night and day.

I know my reply is 6 months late - but I agree with your statement about automatics being awesome if you buy a tuner. From my experience the autos run better than the manuals after a tune. You can tune the shift firmness, rpms of the shifts, etc. (although the "firm shifts" did cost me a tranny in the past - so I know now not to select that option). I wish they would test the autos after they've been tuned. Although it would be really nice if they shifted well off the production line - or if Ford put a "sport" shift mode in for the autos.

hi, had a question. how do you tune an automatic tranny?, what does it do and how much does it cost?. also what do you think about the 2013 mustang gt and 2014?, what are the major differences between both?. i was thinking in getting the 2015 but idk about the design not digging it that much so i might go with a 2013 or 2014 but wanted to know the differences because to me they look the same but 2013 is much cheaper so i would like your opinion. thanks.

Where to start on this vid... first off, you can't get the 3.31 gears with the automatic, they are 3.15s with the auto. You can't even get the track pack with the auto. There are some benefits to the 3.15s though - you will get through the traps in 3rd at 6800-7000 rpm at 116-118mph - the average for a bolton mustang. Lots of manual cars with 3.73s are losing out power (and thus et/mph) because they shift into 4th right before the finish. To overcome this, they would have had to go to 4.30 gears or so, to finish in 4th. Now, 4.30s with the 4.17 1st gear of the auto (vs 3.66 in the manual), and the 235 bicycle tires, would mean absolutely no traction... Having had 4.56s in my previous mustang, my first inclination was to swap in gears as well; then found out that's not such a great idea... 3.15s it is.

Yup, I found the same info you did. Guys are running low 12s with exhaust, cold air and a tune with the auto! The stock tune is HORRIBLE with the auto.
