    This video is about the tools for rigging assist hooks and how to use them. There are a few items here you can see that might help you with your assist hook tying - doing them faster and cleaner.
    The tools outlined are very basic - you can even make your own if you are handy with some tools and material, of course you can buy them as well.
    I hope this helps people as I know there are a lot of people that tie with just their hands and not only does that hurt - it is also quite an inefficient process.

    Does putting the hook through the line weakens the line? Would binding to the shank directly with a half hitch be more reliable?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  Рік тому +3

      Hi TDoo thanks so much!!!! first ever super thanks for me!!!! Actually, not really. This is pretty standard. The knot slips if you do it on hooks without eyes. And you only ever pass the hook through the line with spade heads not with eyed hooks.

    I have to say Kit
    You have completed my lack of know-how
    Your statements so clear and your expalining so consinstent.
    I fish shallow waters,nothing to match with heavy jigs I go no more than 100 grams for my lures but your knowledge gave me a really good way to understand what I am doing and more important why.

    I'm a little confused on another video where you were discussing assist hooks you mentioned that for these kinds of hooks you should wrap the cord/Kevlar at the bottom part of hook shank. However in this video you wrapped on the top part.

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 роки тому

      does the other hook have an eye or a spade head?

      @sanjeevvadaketh5620 2 роки тому

      @@TheFishingKit in the other video the hook had a spade head. You were discussing why wrapping of the cord should always be on the bottom section of the shank. It was your video where u were taking about assist hooks in general - Assist hooks what you need to know - I left a comment there too mate.

      Did I pass the hook through the cord?

    • @sanjeevvadaketh5620
      @sanjeevvadaketh5620 2 роки тому

      @@TheFishingKit in this video yes, in the assist hook video I think it was a factory tied spade hook you were discussing. Maybe go check out the comment I left on that video. I just want to know which would be a better method of cording the hook.

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  2 роки тому

      @@sanjeevvadaketh5620 I knew what you were talking about - but I'm pointing out why. There are several ways to do things. The most important point is that the assist cord that pulls on the hook should be on the side where the barb is - since it is the point that dictates the point where the origin on your pull comes from - putting it on top will direct it upwards and away from flesh - it doesn't mean you won't catch fish if you put the tow point origin on top, just that you will miss a lot more.

      Do you like this one best for splicing assist cord or is there a latch needle that is better suited for assist cord ? I do have a couple (short) latch key needles but I find them too short for my taste and would prefer something closer to 8 inchs or more.
      I dont know what size (latch) is best to get.
