ഉത്തരകേരളത്തിന്റെ സാംസ്‌കാരിക വൈവിധ്യത്തെ വിളിച്ചോതുന്ന തെയ്യം കലാരൂപം ഒരേ സമയം ഭക്തിയും അത്ഭുതവും സമ്മാനിക്കുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്. അവയിൽ ഒന്നാണ് വരാഹി (പന്നി) സങ്കല്‍പ്പത്തിലുള്ള പഞ്ചുരുളി തെയ്യം. ആദിവാസി ഗോത്രത്തിന്റെ കാവുകളില്‍ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന പഞ്ചുരുളി തെയ്യം കോഴികളെ പച്ചയ്ക്ക് ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ചുരുക്കം ചില തെയ്യങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. ആദിവാസി ഗോത്ര സമൂഹത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട സമുദായത്തിന്റെ കളിയാട്ട കാവുകളിലെ തെയ്യത്തിന് ഭക്തര്‍ കാണിക്കയായി സമര്‍പ്പിക്കുന്ന കോഴികളെ അവരുടെ മുന്നില്‍ വച്ച് തന്നെ പച്ചയ്ക്ക് ഭക്ഷിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ചടങ്ങ്.
