He's actually saying the obsession of the past is what holds back every type of people group in the world. Learning and understanding history is important to learn from the mistakes and atrocities from before but dwelling on it to the point of it being the only thing that matters is the issue. I'm not familiar with Lex prior to this. I'm impressed by him. He's very secure in himself and confident. He not a yes man, but he knows how to push back without arguing or sounding defensive.

Your take is not inaccurate but me having listened to Lex for years now, I can tell you his pushing back on Kanye’s narrative comes from his deep understanding of WWII and Jewish history, specially the holocaust. He tends to be very open minded, to a fault. For him to offer this very unusual pushback has to be very certain of the falsity and consequences of such narrative.

5:20 Ye questions Lex on what he had been saying. In what order. And Lex actually had the answer. Thats incredible. Kanyes questions were intentionally vague, and intentionally had a loose timeline (as in kanye was moving all over the place in his statements) and Lex was still able to respond. I have a feeling Kanye was trying to leave him stumped (as any person should be honestly), but instead Lex is actually taking mental notes and somehow actually remembers the specific order of (in my opinion, seemingly incoherent) thoughts.

What a valuable interview!! Lex approached Ye with such kindness and compassion, taking the time to try and understand his argument, while pushing back where it was clearly appropriate, never getting angry with Ye's opinions but allowing him to fully express himself (for better or for worse). Ye spoke his mind, and it was clear he has some pain in his heart. I hope he can heal from that. He's clearly seeking answers and trying to understand why certain people have hurt him in the past. I hope he may surround himself with good and kind people in his future so that he doesn't have to hold such resentment in his heart.

Lex’s ability to actively listen, give Ye’s fast, somewhat seemingly disorganised thoughts room to be expressed in a safe way is an absolute credit to his professionalism, kindness and overwhelming desire for meaningful dialogue in the pursuit of discussion and peaceful resolution. Lex’s slow and methodical pacing encourages Ye’s responses to remain more about what he ‘thinks’ cognitively speaking, as opposed to very heightened emotional retorts often seen in other interviews. Ye undoubtedly has a brilliant, creative mind which is often hijacked by his mental state whether that be anger, jealousy, pride or some form of thought disorder associated with mental illness’s like Bipolar. Honestly, watching Ye it’s clear to see he is intimidated (unnecessarily I may add) by Lex’s intelligence, high EQ and laser like focus on dismantling Ye’s more contentious points. For example, comparing the holocaust with abortion is from the outset unjustifiable for many reasons. However, rather than ‘jab’ Ye and get the “Ye-is-crazy-go-viral-clickbait”, Lex gives him chance to explain. By the end, what started as two completely opposite paradigms seem slightly clearer, dare I say closer through Lex’s diligent, patient but razor sharp clarification. Ultimately this led to more of a common understanding of each persons points of view and not simply being dismissive. That is true dialogue and communication. Bravo Lex!

Many successful creative individuals whether artists, authors, musicians, comedians or actors struggle with their mental health to varying degrees. Their art is often a manifestation of that very part of them. Ye seems to have lost an increasing degree of insight into his mental health over recent years. Whether he chooses to acknowledge it and seek treatment is dependent on his own acceptance, willingness to take medication / engage in therapy and the large circle of family, friends and businessmen to be honest and direct with him. If he’s experiencing a hypomanic or manic episode both now and in the past, many close people won’t have his best interests at heart as that is when such people are at the peak of their creativeness. Ye undoubtedly has a brilliant, creative mind which is often hijacked by his mental state whether that be anger, jealousy, pride or some form of thought disorder associated with mental illness’s like Bipolar. Honestly, watching Ye it’s clear to see he is intimidated (unnecessarily I may add) by Lex’s intelligence, high EQ and laser like focus on dismantling Ye’s more contentious points. For example, comparing the holocaust with abortion is from the outset unjustifiable for many reasons. However, rather than ‘jab’ Ye and get the “Ye-is-crazy-go-viral-clickbait”, Lex gives him chance to explain. By the end, what started as two completely opposite paradigms seem slightly clearer, dare I say closer through Lex’s diligent, patient but razor sharp clarification. Ultimately this led to more of a common understanding of each persons points of view and not simply being dismissive. That is true dialogue and communication. Bravo Lex!

Their art is often a manifestation of that very part of them. Ye seems to have lost an increasing degree of insight into his mental health over recent years. Whether he chooses to acknowledge it and seek treatment is dependent on his own acceptance, willingness to take medication / engage in therapy and the large circle of family, friends and businessmen to be honest and direct with him. If he’s experiencing a hypomanic or manic episode both now and in the past, many close people won’t have his best interests at heart as that is when such people are at the peak of their creativeness. He is not mentally ill by definition. He is a brilliant and talented person in the midst of a severe mental health crisis which is perfect for the exploits of modern media.
