How do you find the x and y intercept of a quadratic

  • 👉 Learn about the parts of a parabola. A parabola is the shape of the graph of a quadratic equation. A regular palabola is the parabola that is facing either up or down while an irregular parabola faces left or right. A quadratic equation is an equation whose highest exponent in the variable(s) is 2.
    The parts of a parabola include: the axis of symmetry (the line passing through the vertex of the parabola to which the parabola is symmetric about), the vertex (the point at which the parabola turns), the domain (the set of possible x-values of the parabola, usually all real numbers for regular parabolas), the range (the possible y-values of the parabola which is usually the region above the vertex inclusive or below the vertex inclusive for regular parabolas), the x-intercepts (the points where the parabola cuts the x-axis) and the y-intercepts (the point(s) where the parabola cuts the y axis.

    Your videos are a God-send. Thank you for being so thorough with your explanations and examples. My 7th grader is taking advanced Math and as an online learner to boot. I'm pretty good at Math but it's been a minute since I took Algebra. My son wishes you were his math teacher.

    Oh now I understand it multiplies to 4 and it adds to 5, see this is the Part of the factoring that I needed to know, and Brian McLogan really nice job solving it using your brain. To be fair it was pretty easy. But the thing is there is factoring problems that are so hard to factor because they include really big numbers. There’s probably a video out for it, I’ll check. Thanks for this video, it helped me.

    Mr. Logan...I really need your help. If my quadratic equation is x^2-4x+5....how can I figure out the x intercepts? Positive 5 does not have two numbers to make it positive five and also equal -4. If I take the entire equation and multiply it by -1, then -x^2 will still not come out correctly.
