@lewislufc15 I am a big Leeds fan... and what Alan Smith did saved us from possible financial oblivion... I would love him to come back and play for us again... his heart is not in question, he did it for Leeds.
He left Leeds for obvious reasons and I get it. He didn't fail at Man United anyway. He won the league, played in a few decisive games. Defeating Arsenal with the assist to Rooney to finish the game off and break Arsenal's 49 game unbeaten run. And also a brave and superb performance against Chelsea that Man United won 1-0 to break their 40 game unbeaten run. Scoring in the 7-1 win over Roma and booked United's place in the Champions League semis. He only failed when he left Man United. He may play in midfield during his time at Man United but he was used very well by Ferguson. But from a neutral point of view, he have an above average career. His main highlights would be his 2001 Champions league run to the Semi Finals and winning the league with Manchester United in 2007. Love him, hate him, that's football.
This is true sadly like other players of the same generation he was a part of were the same but there is no doubt the man may well of been an England Captain had he not been so injury prone i know he left Leeds but it was a matter of the teams survival having to sell the majority of their Premier League first 11 then
I always liked him. Í still do, He player fór NUFC and he played w ith hins heart and showed airways deep respect for St james park and I ts fans. I cant help it i just like him .
You may wanna read Peter Lorimer's comments on the subject on the official Leeds Utd website - they're a bit of an eye opener. TBH, my opinion of Alan Smith went up no end. I think it shows a bit of dignity on his part that he'd not come out himself after leaving Manure - it'd only have sounded like excuses. Remember how he played at Leeds - no one could have doubted his commitment to us. MOT

Smith was Leeds-born, came through the academy. Clichy was not worse lol. It's hard to find a worse betrayal than Smith's in football. It's like Steven Gerrard joining Man U in his prime.
Leodesian is right, Peter Lorimer's comments changed my whole view on the subject, Man utd was the only club willing to offer the asking price and Smithy went there to help Leeds. COME ON YOU LEEDS, LETS GET PROMOTION THE THE CHAMPIONSHIP!
The day smith signed for united was the day I stopped believing a single word that comes out of any modern day footballers mouth. Support the team all you like but don't ever kid yourself that the players care about your club the same way you do. They're playing for themselves and no one else
He actually did Leeds a favour. Man Utd paid far more than he was probably worth considering Leeds HAD to sell him. When you're in a situation where you have no choice but to sell players, they're not about making profit anymore, they're about getting money fast. 7 million was a very good price and in reality, anyone else would have paid 3 million. Don't forget that when you slag off a player who clearly still cares deeply about Leeds even now.
I could see why Leeds fans are hated by others in England. You're club went bankrupt! You lost all your quality players because of that! Alan Smith chose Man United because they were willing to for this guy and help financially help your club! If you want to get angry, get mad at people who mismanaged the team and made it bankrupt. Using a player who had no choice but to leave as a scapegoat is very classy. Oh yeah, you're from Leeds, you don't know what class is lol.
Alan Smith wanted a taste of the big time and for going to man utd he got a league winners medal. He had no chance of getting it at leeds. Ambitious lad who put stupid petty hatred aside to fulfill his ambition. Top guy.
The Wars of the Roses were a series of dynastic civil wars for the throne of England fought between supporters of two rival branches of the royal House of Plantagenet: the houses of Lancaster and York (whose heraldic symbols were the "red" and the "white" rose, respectively). They were fought in several sporadic episodes between 1455 and 1485, although there was related fighting both before and after this period. The final victory went to a relatively remote Lancastrian claimant, Henry Tudor,
nothing turned out for him, fergie played him at central midfield wasting his potential as a striker and is considered a traitor by leeds fans. sucks for him.
LFCDiablo I remember when he said that He'll never go to Man Utd, me and my Dad said "good lad" and then when we turned on the Sports news a few months later they said "Alan Smith has officially signed for Manchester United", we turned off the TV and I remember punching the wall and made a hole in it.
Football is a Religion in Leeds believe me, i lived there for 47 years and worshipped along with many thousands of others at the shrine of Bremner and Revie. Rugby and Cricket, while quite popular , pales into insignificance alongside the popularity of Leeds United who still have the potential to draw crowds of over 40, 000 regularly if only they could reach the top echelons of their sport once more.
And what about our current keeper, who no doubt one day will be a legend whether at Leeds or not, whos dad couldn't be much more of a manure legend if he tried! We all love Casper don't we, coz he's awesome and wears the shirt with pride despite his previous history.
It's not ok for smithy to move to manure but it's ok for strachan, an absolute fucking legend to come to us from them?! Maybe some people should just get over it now. He had no choice but to move to them, he made the best if a bad situation. And maybe he'll return to Leeds one day. I'll welcome him if he does.
I fuckin hate United too but he didn't want to go. It's not his fault he was sold to prevent the club completely collapsing. He was my idol and would welcome him back to Elland Road just like before. MOT

I never follow players anymore, I just follow my club - Leeds United. Players only play for clubs because its their job, they wouldnt play unless they get paid so really I couldnt give a toss about a player no more. Most of them earn in a year what other hard working people get in a lifetime. I just want my club to do well because it puts a smile on the faces of all Leeds fans and that is what Im most bothered about.

randyhandbag Oh you people. Always portraying him as some Christlike figure who made a great sacrifice. He was a selfish cunt who went to the one club he knew would crush his true supporters hearts. And he did it to make a ton of cash. Footballers aren't slaves, they don't have to go anywhere they don't want. He could have said no, held out, and went somewhere else. He's not Jesus, he's Judas.
@lewislufc15 He also donated his signing bonus to Leeds knowing that the Club needed the money. Unlike Harry Kewell who managed to swindle £2M out of a £5M deal for him and his agent!!!
There's only one Alan Smith! Put in 100% for the Red Army every second he had a United shirt on, shame about his injury cos it halted his momentum in a bad way. all the best for the lad, the shift he put in and some of the great goals he scored won't be forgotten in Manchester.
