'Chibnall knew something had to be done' so what did he do? He ruined it forever. He didn't save it, he completely destroyed it. He broke canon and destroyed 56 years worth of history. Then he cremated it and shat on the remains.

@Problembeing Absolutely spot on. Who exactly asked for an origin story. Not recommended but this wouldn't have hurt as much, why couldn't they introduce future Doctors (Ruth, Brendan etc) far into the Doctor's future. RTD hinted at this in his novelization of Rose. That would have taken some actual creativity.

J.C. Marshall it’s all ‘Common Purpose’ cultural and intellectual colonialism. They want to corrupt all previously male-oriented heroes and cultural icons and to make women superior in everyway. It’s usually white women speaking for everyone else as usual. White female supremacists, or Fêmme Suprêmme Crême as I like to call them.
They just want to ‘pull down all the patriarchal’ icons and feminise them. Once they’ve erased all of that, they will inflict a new history that wipes out any notion men did anything heroic.

Yes, some of Moffat's work on the show is at masterpiece level. The contrast between Moffat's brilliance, intermittent and often flawed as it was, and the mind producing these two seasons of lumps of poorly shaped, damp modeling clay is -- appalling, really. Sorry but the only thing that could "explain" this away is by having Capaldi wake up in the tardis (persuading him to come back for a one off special) and it be a dream, that's the level of cringe we are at in trying to save this franchise.

Ok perfect way to Retcon this. Ever since 12 regenerated, we've been watching Missy 2, who genuinely thought she was The Doctor after her messy Regeneration from Missy 1.. You see when 13 fell she actually started regenerating, but Missy was there too, about to as well. Two regeneration together things go bad. The Doctor left with amnesia, thinking he's human. Events seen in Chibs Era play out a bit different especially the last few episodes. The Master is The Timeless Child, and The Doctor is just her best friend from childhood. The real reason the Judoon locked up 13 is due to them knowing it's really Missy. This would explain why The Master is the way he is. And Missy being 13 would continue her arc. Being The Timeless Child would explain why Missy can still regenerate. New season introduce The real 13th Doctor, close off 13/ Missy's Arc, have her regenerate , and give her a spin off.

Right up to and including the last episode, it always felt as "the fam" had only just met, and knew nothing about each other. Whittaker is unrecognisable as having anything to do with the character of the Doctor, and it has been painful watching her attempt to navigate this show with her two-dimensional performance. The introduction of elements from past Who eras have only served to remind me how much better this show used to be. And the devastation inflicted on the past fifty-odd years of other people's work - all of which had no impact on the show going forward - seem to have been rammed in to the mythology so that Chibnall could scrawl his signature all over the franchise. I have decided that, at last, I am not returning to this show again. It is far too sad to see what it has become.

@2:00 Captain Jack was purely to have the audience drunk with nostalgia feels... as you mentioned... his scene was utterly pointless and if that was all it equated to, the information could have been delivered in some other manner.
He was there, so that when the Ruth Doctor was revealed in the very next scene, everyone was already feeling in a good mood, because they had just seen Jack... thus they would be more accepting of Ruth... and it worked. Jack distracted most from the huge plot hole forming...
Ruth herself has had nothing but bad scripting... she would have been a great choice of actor for the Doctor instead of Whittaker... even with the terrible scripting this trash has, she has far more screen presence than Whittaker ever could.
@4:20 Absolutely correct. She probably actually could have made an extremely good Doctor too... however she had only watched 2 David Tennant episodes prior to being cast in the role as part of the clause for Chibnall to accept the role of show runner and upon finding out, she only watched a few more episodes and decided "Nope, I hate this! I'm going to ignore EVERY DOCTOR that came before me because they were men and I'm going to do this totally different!"
The danger of taking on this one role of all others in history is that... each incarnation is their own individual personality... but that personality is merely a TINY FRACTION of the TRUE personality, the much BIGGER personality that sits behind those eyes and runs the show...
A completely individual personality of its own, when tracked across the entire shows story... when you watch from the first episode of Hartnell through to the last episode of Capaldi...
There is a very distinct, 'bigger' personality there... one whose journey can easily be tracked from the immature, stubborn arrogance of youth to the long lived, wizened old man on deaths door step, looking back at all his adventures and all his regrets...
She didn't want to involve any of that. The fact she only really watched 2 episodes of David Tennant is abundantly clear in the fact that EVERY mannerism she has given the character are literally just Tennant's... facial expressions... catch phrases... she only KNOWS his work...

    • @lavishisles5497
      @lavishisles5497 3 роки тому

Late to this, but let's make some corrections. Chibnall said she could do whatever she wanted as research to learn about the show, there was no clause. Whittaker started to watch episodes, didn't state which. She then decided that she didn't want to end up copying the mannerisms of past Doctors, so instead decided to read about the show. Meaning she has the knowledge of events in the Doctor's timeline without copying mannerisms. It may just be that Tennant and Whittaker are similar people, or that Chibnall has written them similarly, they were all involved in Broadchurch of course.
I'm not sure how watching just 2 episodes of Tennant would've had that much of an impression on her, as we know that people like Tennant and Capaldi both watched previous eras and gives them an 'individual personality'. Surely it's more likely that they would've picked up on those mannerisms themselves?
I don't think Jack was there to make people "feel good" before Ruth, more to put people at ease without realising something much bigger is coming. When the Ruth Doctor was revealed for me, I felt more like "oh no Chibnall's going down this path" but later was convinced about the arc by some more background into what the Timeless Child arc says about the British Empire. It's most certainly a story that's nowhere near complete and it can definitely still evolve - like how the Time War arc ended up going on for 7 series until it was revealed that the Doctor didn't actually destroy Gallifrey at all, it had just moved.
CJ ended up being in Revolution and it feels like he would've been back in Series 13 from the end of ROTD, but now that's very complicated, if his return had a bigger intention maybe it'll never be discovered. That being said, it doesn't feel to me like he should need an arc - he should be allowed to return just for fun.
I'm hoping S13 ties up some loose ends for all the characters, and that we get more clarity of TTC, but I don't expect it to end in S13 either, it feels like it's part of something that could go on for years.

The only hope is for the BBC to sell the rights to someone who actually understands sci-fi and then have a doctor wake up from some evil mind-trap dream created by the master and we can simply exclude season 11/12 from the entire cannon. I did like RUTH, make her the actual 13th doctor and she can wake up. Make Yaz and the other companions part of the evil master's plot and send the lot into a space vortex at the end of the real season 11. Graham can be a neutral character who assists the real doctor in defeating the evil masters plot and at the end we discover Graham is the real master and the master who sent the doctor into this evil dream is actual a alternative-universe master.

13 takes a lot of from other doctors but doesn't forge her own identity.
1: old adventure who turns into a champion for good.
2: the buffoon who outwits you while playing a recorder.
3: the dashing spy who loves gadgets
4: the hippie hobo who was one step ahead of everyone.
5: the pacifist who tries not to solve things with violence.
6: the egotistical genius who had a heart of gold.
7: the quirky man who turned into a master tactician.
8: the hero of time who fought to stay out of a war.
war doctor: the man who forgo the name of the doctor to fight and burn for everyone.
9: the damaged war vet who found something to live for again.
10: the handsome hero with a powerful dark side.
11: the myth maker who is awkward but cool.
12: the old man trying to find his way in the universe.
i can't really say any really defining trait that makes 13 stand out as her own thing. she goes through the motions of the doctor without being the doctor.
but the one thing i say 13 and chibnall failed to do for me? make the doctor scary. almost all the other doctors have that moment where they say or do something to make you say to yourself "geez. i don't ever wanna be on that guy's bad side".
    with the modern era:
    9: everybody dies.
    10: the family of blood.
11: a good man goes to war.
    12: face the raven.
i was never once intimidated or frightened of the 13th doctor. and for me, that's a failure on all fronts.

Russell T would have given Jodie decent dialogue. She hasn't had a decent few lines ever. Chibnall, meanwhile, has destroyed Gallifrey off-camera, and come up with easily the most disastrous plot development in the show's entire history. So there have been thousands of doctors, meaning the last 13 or so have probably not been that special. You would have to be truly brainless not to realise how much introducing that would destroy your product.

For me personally, I divorced with Doctor Who during Series 11 after calmly understanding that the show was going on a path that I wasn't keen on following. However, I just watched Series 12 out of curiosity and tried to see the good in what Chibnall was doing. Unfortunately, I have my own problems with Whittaker's Doctor. The scene where The Doctor dismisses Graham's cancer as superficial and plays the victim in order for us to understand why she did that really convinced me that Jodie's Doctor wasn't as good after all. The Doctor is supposed to be kind, considerate, and compassionate. And it was appalling to see her do that to poor Graham in this situation.
People often see themselves as the victim sometimes, but Jodie's Doctor sees herself as the victim all the time. She will often find something or somebody to blame for their shortcomings. In this case; Jodie's Doctor blames her inability to feel sympathy for Graham on her social awkwardness. And because of that, she is never gonna change for the better throughout her tenure.
And I am rather shocked that Chris broke the number one rule of Doctor Who by giving it a proper origin story. I personally feel that having The Doctor be some space god kinda ruined the humbleness of the character for me

  • @catherinespark

So…Chibnall specifically and intentionally cast someone who’d never seen Doctor Who and didn’t know anything about the character, then specifically asked her not to watch past episodes or research the character (thus giving her no opportunity for informed input in scripts or direction - which all other Doctors had been granted during production), openly admitted he thought most of the previous episodes were poorly written and executed, full of cliches, with problematic Doctor characterisations and portrayals - and then didn’t read any reviews, thus giving off a complete disdain-for-the-fans vibe, in fact explicitly took an attitude towards the show to the effect that other people’s opinions don’t matter, while ‘blaming’ his decisions on the fans’ demands?! It makes me wonder on what basis he was ever a fan of the show in the first place, whether he REALLY was a fan of the show or rather a fan of his own idea of what the show should be, what he really hoped to achieve in getting his claws into it, and what his yardstick for success was…

What really upset me was the master/missy, I feel like Moffat made such a good character arc and I was so excited to see where it would go and chibnall just fired a nuke at the character and threw away all of that hard work, it's such a huge shame, maybe things will get better with season 13, I've always trusted the showrunners to do the right thing and despite some of them making the odd iffy decision I was always satisfied with the overall story, every doctor had their defining 'Doctor moment' (you all know what I mean) that point in the series where everyone watching is thinking "That's the doctor" and you get this rush of warmth and love coarse through your body, well as much as it hurts to say It, 13 hasn't had her 'Doctor moment' it's something that every single Doctor has had at least once (usually a few times) but 13 hasn't had it once, she's come close but that exp-bar needs to fill before she can release the special move, what I don't understand is how chibnall is finding it so hard, he's capable of writing good television, I enjoyed torchwood and that was mostly down to him, it's like he's trying to do too much all at once and it ends up doing nothing, the companions just fell flat, you can say it's because there are too many but there have been that many and more before and it went fine, it feels like the lines were written for one companion then shared out between the three of them, like give then each other's lines and you wouldn't even notice a difference,
The villains feel like caricatures, that trump guy is just a walking stereotype and really ruins my immersion, at this point I don't know why the BBC just don't think "right, if things keep going like this then we won't have a beloved show that people watch, but where oh where will we find a team of writers that know doctor who well enough to save It?????" ........... "BIG FINISH!!!"
Big fucking finish! Why have they not just given the show to them?
There is no need for one person to be in charge of doctor who anymore when there's an entire team of writers just sat there working for the BBC writing episode after episode of quality top tier 'who'
It's just so obvious at this point and I don't understand how or why a company that cares so much about money and viewing figures can't see the best way to achieve that, I know they don't care about anything but money and stats but this is literally the way to get It, am I missing something really obvious here or something?
I just feel like the shows being run into the ground and can't understand why the BBC are letting it happen, its literally the best thing to ever come from that network, are they just gonna sell it to Netflix or something, I'm sorry for ranting, it's just this show is nearly 60 years old, it was my childhood and the childhoods of so many generations, the Doctor is one of/If not the most beloved character/s/ to have ever graced our screens and I feel like we're at a point where the show could either die or fly straight into another golden age, anything could happen and I feel like the end of the chibnall era is soon to lead to one of those two things, I'm confused by what chibnall wants, part of me thinks he's trying and failing, part of me thinks he's setting up something big by making us all think it's going wrong just for it to 180 into the right direction (That's just the hopeful side of me) and another part of me thinks he's trying to destroy it just because he Can.
I don't know what's true, I'm not part of the BBC and I'm certainly not Chris chibnall but one thing is for sure, this show is on the verge of collapse and hands really need to change soon before its too late, another 3 seasons with things going how they are, there won't be a show to give to a new showrunner,
So God, Buddha, Father Christmas, In fact No,
Fucking Doctor, if there's one thing in all of time, space and existence that needs you right now, it's your show, Doctor please for the sake of all of us, save yourself, we need you.
