Thank you for your two part testing video. It confirmed the durability of this Buck 119 and the BOS heat treatment that has made Buck knifes an icon in wilderness cutlery. The Buck 119 has proved field tested since its introduction in 1942. It was carried in combat by U.S. Servicemen and women through every overseas conflict since World War Two, and has become legendary. Its longer 7” blade companion, KA-BAR is the only competitor in terms of combat tested ability. Your testing has revalidated the modern build quality of the Buck 119 as a durable tool for moderate bushcraft and civilian field use under the most demanding conditions. Again, thanks for the brutal testing that would likely surpass a lifetime of use.
The Buck seemed to hold up decently....That was some good testing and thanks for the share of the results....Keep em coming....Grand Pappy would be proud....LOL....Good stuff....
Sure itd be an even better knife if buck improved the QC, ypull always find something sorta off in their knives, uneven grind, poor fit and finish. Great designs wish they were more consistent especially cuz the 119 gone from 50 dollars to 75
Buck would do well to watch videos such as this and design the Buck 119Max. This knife held up well considering this isn't what it was designed to go though. I'm gonna pick one up for sure after this. Thanks for the test.
I’m a huge Buck fanboy but I actually appreciate this test. I carry a 192 Vanguard any time I’m in the woods. I’ve often wondered if it would hold up in a survival situation if I should find myself in one. I feel more confident than I did before. If you’re in the mood, I’d love to see you torture a Vanguard. Btw, the guard is aluminum and the blade of course is steel. That may explain the loosening of the guard. Either way - good job. And thank you
I obviously don't beat on my knives quite like this. But you've definitely given me the confidence to carry this knife again as a primary hunting knife. To be honest, the only reason I stopped is because I cut/stabbed myself in the wrist one winter. Inwas cold, wet and got in a hurry dressing a deer and wound up nearly bleeding to death afterwards. I picked up a 113 last year and it does really well dressing deer and what not. But I think I'll go back to carrying this one on my belt and put the 113 in my pack for the finer work.
I don't think many knives can handle a "lifetime" of abuse, unless they are those quarter inch thick knives that resemble crowbars. I'm hesitant on trusting the Buck stick tang as well. However, when joe x reviewed a couple of Bucks by applying lateral pressure, they all snapped at the middle of the blade portion, and not at the stick tang, which was very surprising to me. Seems like the stick tang is actually stronger then the blade portion on the buck 119 and buck 120
I agree with this. After 9 years of incredibly hard use my 119 just broke at the blade. For what it’s worth I should’ve just gotten a crowbar for the job but I was being lazy lol. Excited to test out a new knife for the next decade
@@edwardrizzorhands The thing is though that knife has a lifetime warranty so you can contact Buck and they'll ship ya a new one if they can't fix it.
Yes the kabar is another example of bad design tho. Great knife but the guard and tang are too thin, I love lot of the older style knives but they Def aren't overbuilt like modern knives.
Awesome video my friend I enjoyed it I was waiting for the tip to snap LOL thank you for filling my request before I end up leaving for my trip now you can see why I carry at 1:19 so much it's there are pretty robust knife for the money and I have a good classic style to it that I feels to a lot of guys like me that collect older styles but I agree if they made a Full Tang 119 I would buy the heck out of it and I definitely agree with you on the guard because as a knife maker myself I would make sure that guard is fitted on perfectly even if the guard was stupid not to lose it wouldn't rattle back and forth but I definitely agree with what you said every knife no matter the brand has a limit Joe X has snowed that😅 keep up the good work
I realized a long time ago that there isn't one knife that does it all.. BUT.. The 119 is excellent at being..... A Knife.. I'd never put mine through the abuse I just witnessed, but its good to know it can stand up to the challenge if push came to shove.. Wouldnt it be great if they made a true full tang version of the 119 ? great video mate..
Thank you. And yes. Most people will never abuse their knives. And that’s exactly why we test. To promote confidence in your purchase. Thank you for the excellent comment
Kind of pointless to abuse such a beautiful knife by performing tasks it was not designed to do. I definately wouldnt put my S30v model through that. I have others for that, and hatchets. I enjoy your enthusiasm and your vids are entertaining, but those poor knives my gosh. The finish and beauty, feel in your hand is why I got mine. Its a classic.
I’m glad you enjoy my videos. I don’t see it as pointless. Lots of people can’t purchase a 80 dollar knife and see how strong it is without worrying about it breaking. That’s why I do it. So someone can feel less or more confident in a product.
Thanks for those 2 tests, as much as i respect you once again following my first comment on video 1, you did everything to destroyed this knife and so much batoning i never saw you puting somuch amphase on batoning in all your other testings and i dont think it is fair for a long history knife of barely 50$ and almost no good comments on it! So i give 9/10 on the hardess of this blade even after banging it on the stongest part of a metal bucket so hard to completly destroy the edge! Sadly i think you could of done some other tests to give it a chance!! Thanks for your videos! Sincerly Frank from the Deep north of Canada
@@raymcdonald4603 the tang on the knife isnt the problem. It’s the hollow grind. You act like I don’t have and haven’t tested myself on camera. The frontier failed under light use on camera. the 119 did far better. A lot of people feel the need to justify the purchase of the Frontiersman. But the 119 is superior
In my opinion it held up pretty well. Obviously prefer the full tang but considering cost & likely usage this one would be OK. The metal puncturing & prying would be emergency type occurrence & not everyday. If you want to baton regularly then better get a full tang. Good stuff !
The buck always fails the tip test. I've sent many back for warranty on the tip. Got a few 5.5" 119's lol the factory regrinds them beautifully. Warranty is top notch and Buck heat treats are premium. Best in the industry for edge retention with any given steel.
Definitely agree. My buck spitfire in s30v stomps my s30v benchmade's for edge retention like noticeably, without contest. Buck certainly knows how to heat treat even if they are stretching 420hc beyond its relevance.
Good to know that if I had to go through all you put that knife through and it broke, I could get a new one at the store. If anyone did this to a Shane Siebert, that knife is unobtainable.
Himmelherrgott… Show a little mercy with that Beauty. But i really ask myself what happens with the phenolic handle in very cold Weather? Do you think it would break while batoning when its really cold?
At the end you said; ''would I still trust it, and this was just lite abuse'''. In my 1st comment I said 'I do not compare buck knives to other knives because for me they are for lite duty work''. The edge chipped easily with the 124 and this edge had a little damage on a can. Joe X wacked a AD10 against a car for 10 minutes and no problem. As a matter of fact I'm going to go see what Old Joe excuse me young Joe has to say about this knife. After my workout. Cheers from Canada. I'm in Canada and using that at -40C through frozen wood wouldn't last long. That is why for me this is just a collectors item. Ok back to my workout. Us old folks have to keep in shape.
they don't make 'em like they used to....seems materials and craftsmanship was a whole lot better back in the day..... nowadays ppl cut corners with cheap materials just to make a dollar.... pathetic
This brutal testing has shown me that I really ought to trust and carry mine way more than I have been. Thanks dude.
