I was not expecting this game of all games to feature a story. And to be blunt, I kind of fucking love it. Something about playing from the perspective of an illegal mother and son demolition crew is really appealing to me.
Nothing is more zen than playing a game with an impressive level of destruction and just spending hours smacking down walls and entire buildings. I had a load of fun in the Red Faction games because of it. Only downside is the immense lag that'll occur.
this game is p good about lag control. once everything settles down it stops calculating physics for all the individual pieces which brings the framerates up to a more reasonable level

Destruction of houses and buildings were better but since it wasn't good for gameplay (accidentally breaking an important support and tearing down whole house wouldn't be nice according to developer thoughts) so he designed buildings to not tear down until breaking all the walls and supports underneath it. Edit: it would be laggy too i guess. Edit2: i guess that change just wasn't for buildings.
This gave me a case of streamer backseating, when he was trying to get the big safe into the dump truck. The safe kept falling out because he wouldn't dump the crap that was already in the bucket!

@Qimodis i mean if i’m not mistaken isn’t that what a fair few of the punk genres are kind of like, i know usually they always have something to say about the world but with steampunk if i’m not mistaken the idea was that, it doesn’t matter what kind of technology we have, but always due to the way social castes and classes work we have those issues, and whatever technology we do have becomes a part of that struggle by proxy, there’s more to it i bet and this is probably still just surface level

What this game needs is a GUI redesign to get rid of some of the "untitled unity project" feel, because everything else they've pushed beyond that stage
Teardown is pretty damn cool so far. Been waiting for a good year or so, can't remember exactly. The only big downside, to me, is that buildings don't simulate structural integrity. Meaning that even if a building is held up by a single voxel, it'll stand just fine. This may not be a problem for everyone, but it does take away from it quite a bit for me. I'm assuming that it's so the game runs smoother, which I can deal with, but I wish that there was some way to add it in in some form; maybe there is, but I wouldn't know. That said, it's not enough to dampen my overall enjoyment I'd say, as I've already dealt with the minor disappointment after learning of that. Also, apparently modding is very easy to do. I'll have to look some stuff up later and see if it's easy enough for someone, like me, who doesn't know any coding to do, since I don't know how involved it is. I'll probably make some models anyways and find somewhere to upload them regardless, since it sounds like you can import models pretty easily. Either way, great game. I've always loved games like Red Faction Guerilla for the destruction, so this is right up my alley.

@@EyeTry203 It probably has something to do with the fact that Teardown is a voxel-based game where every single one has to be simulated when you break them, whereas in Red Faction, buildings were already pre-designed to fall into specific chunks. It's sorta hard to explain lol. Plus, the graphics of Teardown are objectively better and using a more advanced lighting engine.

I had to retry three times just to get the two cars to fit into that hottub, but the blue Cadillac finally sunk just far enough to count. edit: if you still hurry before its patched out, you can cut the panel off the car that's connected to the alarm. Last I knew, this was still a legit tactic.
The way Vinny plays missions in the dumbest way possible reminds me of the time he played Portal Bridge construction. Well now he's doing destruction, somehow still does it again.
The game really needs you to big brain it and really challanges you on how to use your own guns and bombs not only that but if you go and pick up the optionals ALL at once the game becomes 100% greater. Also the hub area will show progression from an abondended warehouse to a home.

The introduction of the alarm system was where a lot of the fun stopped for me, sadly. I somehow didn't know this was a game for speedrunners going into it and was really disappointed. I was expecting the game to focus way more on just tearing down buildings.
I agree. I appreciate the attempt to add variety and mix up the gameplay, but it's hard to enjoy the destruction physics when your focus is on plotting speedy routes.

I've got this game, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I just wish there was a slightly better balance between quick-moving alarm missions and more deliberate destroy-stuff missions. 'Cause I'm here for the destruction.
@@ianshorter2712 There *is* a sandbox mode, which is fun in its own way. But it's more fun to destroy things for missions, and there are a couple of missions where destruction is the goal, without the tight time limit. I prefer those.

It's also fun to start a fire in a flammable building and watch the fire spread and the physics work. Though that gets pretty laggy, too.

Yeah, that annoyed me too, and the number of missions that relies on alarms to keep it interesting is a little frustrating as well
