I've been struggling out of the bunkers with the last couple of wedges. Gone back to a vokey. Cuts through the sand like butter! Will hopefully never change again.
I have the the sm8 54/58 only got them 4 months ago, absolutely love Vokey wedges, their simply the best in my view. But won’t be changing from the 8’s.
I've got sm8 54/58 s grind 10° bounce wedges with rifle 6.0 shafts. Would be hard to upgrade from that, for me. Sm9s look great though. May get them used from 2nd swing later...
Looking forward to giving these a go! My current wedge set are SM7’s and I love them however, I have noticed a drop off in performance as the grooves have worn. Ready for a new set in 2022!
G'day Mike, loved the sound of the strikes you were getting on the 50, absolutely pure! I was fitted into the SM7's 50, 54 and 58. Loved the process of working through all the grinds and bounces to come up with the best wedge set for my swing. My girlfriend has been coveting them for some time now ... maybe I should hand them over and get the 9's :)
I've been playing the SM8's in 50, 54 & 58 for the past year and I noticed that I rarely used the 58, so I thought I'd try a 50 & 56 combination. I picked up the SM9 and Mike is 100% correct, great wedge !
Firstly, great review, Mike. Secondly, dilemma 😱. Being a senior player I was sold on the Callaway Full Toe wedges you reviewed, as they looked a little more forgiving. But the Vokeys look quality and with added durability 🤔. Would like to see an on course review of the Vokeys, if possible. Love this channel.
Great review, loved the sound of the strikes and your comments. This is the first article I have viewed on your channel and I have subscribed. I have a big birthday coming up this summer and am already dropping not so subtle hints about a fitting for a proper fitting for SM9’s. I’ve recently moved to the latest T200 irons with AMT Red shafts (regular flex) and play 54-10 and 60-04 SM6 wedges which are getting a bit worn now. Would love to know what you think of the different finishes and how they affect feel and performance.
Could you sometime fit the wedges in the grass? In the bay you get perfect lies, but I would be curious if you would get fit for a different grind/bounce from turf to grass? thanks, great video.
@@stevecoffey4884 there are videos on YT of the man himself taking everyday people through it, really good watch.. playing off real lies is helpful to narrow down grinds but hopefully they don't do you like that and make you start in the sand!
Thanks Mike, I'm up there in age high 50s so I'm really going after my short game, putting and wedge play,, Definitely gonna check these out, love the look, great company, a little pricey but worth it I think !! Great review hugh part of my game!!
Nice review Michael. Just your introduction picture frame for this video looks like you are smoking something 😂😂 just saying. Anyways love your work and keep m thinking to upgrade my SM8s to SM9s this year, thanks for your review.
Michael, do the SM9 Chrome faces look darker or duller than previous gen SM's? I had a SM7 Chrome finish before and the sun reflected badly, but in the store these, SM9 Chrome faces look a bit darker and less reflective, but what's your opinion?
How would you stack these wedges up against the Mizuno T-22 wedges????? lIke to fit my wedges to my iron set...Unless I choice Cleveland Wedges.....Not a Titleist player.....
i personally think they bring clubs out to quickly are they any different to the sm8 which seem like they have only just been released but they do look good
I think you must be getting confused with another company that starts with a "T". Titleist are a quality company that release their products every 2 years, and the same goes for these wedges.
Michael, I'm 6-3, and I play my Mizuno 221's +1/2". But in my Vokeys I've always played standard length due to swing weight getting crazy when you go +1/2" on an already heavy wedge at D4 (standard). May I ask what length you're playing your SM9's? And if over-length, are you just "dealing with the swing weight" which is likely D7 now?
Hey man, I'm right up your ally on specs, wondering if you ever got any answers to these questions as I'm in the same boat. I play my t100 irons at 1/2" over and I'm looking to get a set of these sm9s but I'm also gun shy on getting them 1/2" over
Very similar look, shape. TITLEIST saying 9’s are more consistent on the trajectory & spin against the 8’s…..I would say the 9’s felt softer as I’m a user of the 8’s
I have two Titliest SM6 and two SM7, and I can't tell the difference, so what's the fuss. A wedge is a wedge. I don't see why Vokey just doesn't leave these clubs alone and make them a standard issue from year to year. Wedges are like the MB irons I play, they are just stock clubs.
I bought the SM8's as soon as I saw the press pictures of the SM9's. I did have the SM7's before that and these SM9's look like the ugly offspring of the 7's and 8's.

i second this. just bought the vokeys and am not getting much spin from the 60, do you recommend making the switch to callaway jaws full toe?

@@cryptosquatch8892 completely agree, you also get the static effect of a truly flat lie to reduce variables, and the instant feedback of good contact

Beautiful looking clubs. Good analysis. What's the difference from the SM8's or 7s?

Just got the SM8 within the last couple months. How big of a difference are you actually seeing between the two comparing “new” to “new” of course
Very little I’d imagine. They look similar to the SM7’s in regards to the CG placement

It might be in the comments but NGL to lazy to look lol but what type of grind is on them ? Or what is the best option just curious
Oh lol he definitely talked about it I should have watched and then asked lol

@@MichaelNewtonGolf just messing with you! Huge Fan and always love your reviews!
Would love a low bounce K-grind as an option
The LB K is fantastic. I am sure they will release one down the road.
The only difference between last year is the weight they added by copying the rtx zipcore.
Rtx wedges are pretty good. They seem about as good as the Sm8s. I have both.
I just bought the SM8’s last year is there that big of a difference?
Unless you're a Tour Pro, I would suspect not.

@@MichaelNewtonGolf I was going to ask what was the difference in feel. Good to know
Whats the difference compared to SM8?
Sm9 club head looks a little cleaner.
You were getting more spin on the 50° compared to the 54° & 58°. That actually surprises me as you usually get more spin as the loft increases.
Because he was dropping the clubhead speed in order to hit a yardage window.
Clubhead speed dropped as I hit shorter shots. Speed is a big factor on producing spin 👍
