Honestly, nanami is one of my favorite mentors. He feels like the mentor that's not trying to get you to become this perfect, best warrior you can, but more of a mentor that trying to keep you alive and help you keep your morals straight
@@npc_timing8754 if he was a teacher irl, he'd be like. "Guys, I don't think yall learning from this bullshit, let me teach you how to manage tax instead."
Ik you haven't read Naruto yet but honourable mention to jiraiya. Hes someone who had a relationship with the MC, was strong, and helped in the MC's development
Some good mentors I have seen: Kamina from TTGL: He was the Reigen to Shimon's Mob, helping Shimon grow as a person and discover his true potential. Ash Ketchum: Yup, he was a mentor to May, Dawn and Serena and, to a lesser extend, to Iris as well and he did a good job. Ryozanpaku (from Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple) in general: Kenichi couldn't have become who he is by the end of the manga without the guidance of all his mentors from Ryozanpaku, yet, they also were taught a lot from him as well. Genkai from Yu Yu Hakusho: I can easily believe that both her and Roshi were the blueprints for a lot of mentors in fiction as a whole.
@@CiyaroZ - characters can be both. Kite was a mentor was both mentor and big brother to Gon (being raised by and molded by Ging into the hunter that he is including the development of his nen abilities).
I'm honestly surprised you didn't talk about genkai from Yu Yu Hakusho. Genkai is a phenomenal mentor for a multitude of reasons but my favorite being from the understanding she and yusuke share within their relationship.
Could you do a video about "normal" characters? Like Usopp, Mr. Satan, King, Hayato, and, although you likely haven't played it, Yangus from Dragon Quest 8.
I'd argue that aspects 5 & 6 are the most important Something i like in stories is having older characters growing into better people, even when they think that's not possible anymore Not only that, when you show that your mentor has faults & needs to grow just like their students, it shows how human they are, but it also shows that despite those faults, they don't make them any lesser as teachers
My personal favorite mentor and second favorite fictional character period has to be Kamina from Gurren Lagan. At no point in the series is his presence not felt because of how many characters he affects (most obviously Simon but he also effects other characters such as losing to him being the start of Viral's Arc or how her feelings for him are part of Yoko's character to name a few) how these characters reflect his ideals and how his ideals represent the themes of the story all well not undermining the agency or importance of other characters. Even other great mentor characters don't have this level of relevancy to the overall story especially considering how little time we actually get with Kamina. Sure Reigan's great but he is there for all of Mob Psycho, Kamina's only there for about a third of the series.
We NEED a video on how Goku isn't a bad father, since people love to shit on Goku for being a shitty father when he isn't in the slightest. Super DID sorta ruin that but we don't talk about that.
I wouldn’t say he was a bad father, but not a good one either. I’d honestly say that he simply wasn’t a “father”. It’s not that he mistreated or didn’t care about his children, it’s more so that he didn’t think of them as any different than his friends. He trained Gohan, not because he was his son, but because he had the most potential. He views everyone he cares about as equal, so by comparison, his family seems less, because familiy is supposed to be the most important.
Please finish Naruto, there’s so many anime I enjoy more, but I don’t think many have made me feel the same way I did watching Naruto through for the first time.
To be honest if you read Naruto, Jiraiya should be also on the list because it's emotionally developed the mc and not just in strength. And also he's pretty much compare a lot with Roshi.
Honestly, nanami is one of my favorite mentors. He feels like the mentor that's not trying to get you to become this perfect, best warrior you can, but more of a mentor that trying to keep you alive and help you keep your morals straight
yeah, he is like a university prof that says "forget all that crap you've been told before, i will teach you real life"

this video was made for reigen fr
greatest mentor in media honestly
Genkai from YYH is my favorite mentor. She has everything
Spittin, surprised she didn't get a mention
Gyro mentioned! An actual fan of the series
Another thing about Rayleigh is the fact that he also shows just what happens if you arrive somewhere to soon and plus man definitely has the rizz

I’m not that far into it but I agree, I just couldn’t cover that series in depth

I have that planned actually ☝️ Hayato is a good suggestion too I didn’t have him in mind for that
Clicked on this video specifically for reigen
Why did I do that to
Another common trait is most or many mentors die or get severely crippled.
Salad Bar might just be my second favorite channel.
I saw Gyro and clicked, because I immediately knew it would be a good video.
You have forgotten the best mentor character of all time. Uncle Iroh from Avatar the last airbender
New peak just dropped
I'd argue that aspects 5 & 6 are the most important

I-Is that DBL70-01S in the thumbnail…?
Reigen is the GOAT fr.
So question, how do you write the mentor that the MC NEED to learn from yet the mentor go like: nuh uh **go to sleep**
damn... gotta sub to see Yami in future video
This man is gonna love kakashi and jiraiya/orochimaru as mentors in naruto.
R.I.P the GOAT Jiraiya
This has nothing to do with anime but Cid from ff16 is such a great mentor for the player
Genkai from yuyuhakusho is an amazing nentor to yusuke
Defeat and loss is the best mentor. Alwyas
a dragon ball legends art being on the thumbnail is so hilarious to me for some reason
Putting nanami and gyro in the same thumbnail is one way to get me to click
We NEED a video on how Goku isn't a bad father, since people love to shit on Goku for being a shitty father when he isn't in the slightest. Super DID sorta ruin that but we don't talk about that.
Super only plays it for laughs anyway, doesn’t mean it’s his actual character (not helping the alligations)
