  • In part 4 of 5, watch @HowToBloke rattle-on about his 2022 Dacia Jogger's power-surge booster "switch" or, "kickdown" button, and maneuvering on a steep gradient without rolling forward or back applying the electric / electronic parking / handbrake brake (EPB) manually rather than relying on the automatic hill start assist mode.

I can't work out how to release my handbrake with the engine off so that I can go through one of these car washers that pulls your car through on a track type system, in the end I had to leave to engine in idle as I went through the wash which is not ideal. Also being able to switch the handbrake off is very useful if you are parking up for the night in cold weather where there is a possibility of a brake freezing on. PS obviously parking it in gear to prevent it rolling away.

Hello, and thanks for your question. In my opinion, the handbrake freezing-on is unlikely if you've got drum brakes serving the handbrake - still possible, but unlikely. However, disc-pad type handbrakes freezing onto their respective disc in sub-zero temperatures is a common phenomenon - my Renault Scenic does occasionally suffer from that.
      -------
Question: How do I keep my Dacia Jogger's EPB / handbrake / electric / electronic parking brake off when I need to?
Answer: Having started the engine normally with the handbrake brake-switch enabled, I hold down that brake-switch with my foot on the brake pedal and then, whilst still holding the brake-switch down, I hit the stop/start button to cut the engine.
As you're aware, with the handbrake disengaged, any car rolling forward or backwards is unsafe and undesirable unless you're on level ground AND disengaging the handbrake is 100% necessary to perform a particular service operation or maintenance.

I enjoy watching your video! They are quite informative. Do you know how much time does it take for your local Dacia service to deliver a spare part? I am asking, because I have an issue with the car and it has been in the dacia service for almost 3 months and they cannot deliver a simple spare part - electronic steering wheel lock. Local vendor is saying that Dacia is not sending the mthe spare part. Which is lack of warranty !!!! I am collecting information to go on state court with my case, because it is ridiculous to have a brand new Jogger since 4 months and to be forced not to be able to use it for the last 3, because it broke and the official service cannot fix it due to lack of spare parts!

Hello, and thanks for watching #HowToBloke . How exactly did your Jogger's electronic steering wheel lock break? I would be asking Dacia service if a) The vehicle can be used temporarily and safely without it (probably not, but worth asking), b) Can it be repaired rather than replaced with a new unit? c) Would a unit from a Dacia Sandero 3 or a newish Dacia Duster fit even though it has a different part number? Perhaps you could ask experts on a Dacia/Renault forum?
👉 I took delivery of my brand-new Jogger in France in October 2022 and pre-ordered it with front mud flaps, and although nowhere near as important as your immediate situation, I am still waiting, and so is the service department of the Dacia dealership that sold me the vehicle!
If I don't get a result soon, I'll buy some mud-flaps on-line and fit them myself (and ask for a refund). 👍

@@HowToBloke Hi and thank you for your reply. I was driving the car for few hours on a highway. Stopped and turned off the engine. Lock it for few minutes (to take a coffee) and when I tried to turn on the engine it did not start. On the dashboard there was an error message - to rotate the wheel and to push the START button. I made a video of the issue - drive.google.com/file/d/1WfamB1o6q6PjWFRCmxE5e0k1HjlHQa6W/view?usp=share_link
Of course I took the car to the vendor service and they said that the electronic lock of the wheel is faulty, because it does not unlocks the wheel when I try to turn on the engine. And that they will change the lock under RMA process. Tomorrow, 02 of April, will be 3 full months waiting for the spare part delivery. And I am wondering what is wrong with Dacia? Am I the only one that has such issue with the faulty part and with no spare part delivery for over 3 months? If I knew that buying a new Jogger will cause me this issue, I would never buy it, never !!!!!

    • @HowToBloke
      @HowToBloke  Рік тому

After the error message, when the the car wouldn't start, how did you get the Jogger to the vendor? The reason I ask is that my 2022 Jogger has warned me to STOP driving (red dashboard icon) because of an, 'electrical failure'! I stopped the engine and waited a few seconds. Restarted, after that, all was good !?! What I'm saying is, if this is an electronic failure then an electronic solution is required. If it's a mechanical problem, then a mechanical solution is required. You get me? Has the vendor disconnected the battery and reconnected it (a simple computer-style hard re-boot) ? Reset the on-board computer? Cleared the faults error message? From what you've described, this is an electronic fault not a mechanical one. Keep me (and those reading this post) updated. 👍

@@HowToBloke It is a mechanical problem most likely, because with the error message there is a clicking mechanical sound from the wheel. What happens is as follows. Step 1: I unlock the car and open the door. A clicking sound from the wheel starts and continues for 4-5 seconds. For that time I have entered the car and closed the door. Step 2: I try to start the engine, but the clicking sound starts again for 4-5 seconds and the error message pops up. Another 4-5 seconds after the sound stops, the error message disappears from the dashboard. Step 3: I try to start the engine again and there are two options - to get the same result as in step 2, or the engine to start normally. In the beginning of the issue (02.01.2023) the proportions were in 20% of the time not to start and to experience step 2, 80% of the time to start normally. A week ago I was trying for 2.5 hours to start the engine without any success. Even got a message for low battery on the dashboard (then I called the toll service, but while waiting for them tried few more times to start the car and succeed in one of the attempts -> drove it to the vendor service place, where they tried too and failed). Right now I am sure that the proportion is 95% not to start and get the results as in step 2. For the last 3 months I tried to find some logic when it doesn't start and when it most likely will start the engine like if I wait for a minute, open the front passenger door, close it and wait for another minute before give it a new try. The only thing that I found was that if I am not driving/using the car for many hours like during the night or for few days, it has higher chances to start the engine normally. From the official vendor service said that the issue is in the wheel lock - doesn't function properly. What I think is that it cannot lock the wheel when I leave the car, because when I turn off the engine and open the door, there is that familiar noise of the clicking thing of the wheel. The clicking continues even after I lock the car. And when I get into it later and give it a try to start the engine it tries to unlock the wheel. The thing that is making me really angry is that Dacia is not sending a spare part under the confirmed RMA warranty service for 3 months and no one , even the Dacia supplier that imports all Dacia cars for Bulgaria (I have escalated to them the issue already) cannot say when the spare part will be delivered. I am in a position of total disaster, because I spent a lot of money to buy the car (took a loan) and now I have no car to use and no money to buy even 5th hand cheap old car.

Ok, I've seen your vid on this issue. I'll try and recreate this on my Jogger tomo. This indicates an electric switch / sensor issue; but where exactly? Ask the Dacia vendor to kindly disconnect the battery for at least 3 minutes and then try again.

Jogger hybrid doesn't roll back keep in drive with handbrake on and press gas pedal and away. No worries

Well done on this video, I resisted buying a car because of the electric parking brake. I guess they are no problem in an automatic but what you say and do in the video makes perfect sense.
I only looked at this video because very good friends of ours have a new Dacia and they have both commented on how the parking brake can make them a bit nervous on a steep hill.
It's a pity that your handling tip isn't in the manual.
    Kind regards . . . Andy

    • @HowToBloke

An automatic gearbox would almost 100% negate the rolling forward/backward tendency, unless the gradient was ultra steep. For me, the electric handbrake took a while to get used to, perhaps because I've never owned a car with any such sort of device. It's taken me a long time to feel confident using it and even now I would much prefer a conventional manual handbrake which *IS* available on some Dacia Jogger models. @@HowToBloke my Audi has it. When you come to a stop the hand brake gets automatically applied without touching it. When moving off it will auto disengage so makes hill starts easy.
