    Like your videos and approach. I'm not a school teacher, but am a professional designer. Just a tip (if no one has mentioned this). I find it easier to use placeholder editable text boxes (rather than regular text boxes) directly in the Master Slides. This way I don't need to create text boxes (for kids to type in) outside the Master Slides. And you won't need to indicate with text since the placeholder text will automatically be present. Just eliminates some extra steps. Below are the steps to do this:
    View -> Master --> Insert Placeholder (or click text box icon) --> Body Text Placeholder

    Thank you SOOO much for all you have taught us. As much as a challenge and struggle this whole distance learning has been, my favorite thing about it is how much I have learned as a teacher and how that has helped me improve my teaching. (I also teach 4th grade and have been doing that for 24 years!) I’m amazed that with all you have going on, you still managed to post videos the day after your wedding and on your honeymoon. You rock!! Congratulations to you both on your marriage and enjoy your honeymoon!! ❤️🎉❤️

    This was super helpful! I have been looking at editing masters for my classes. One thing I change though - I like to attach the lesson slides and a separate slide for student work. It is easier for me to grade a single slide of student work than scroll down to the end of a long lesson to find student work.

    I love this video! I’m definitely sharing this video with my teacher friends! Your tech tips have helped so many teachers through the process of virtual learning. Your tips have helped me start my free upper elementary and middle school math tutoring service (already have done two sessions since launching, ready to do so much more). I love how you adjusted your slides, instead of getting multiple students’ slides with so many “hot mess” edits, you have made it where you get organized submissions (very smart and a timesaver)

    I've been editing the Master Slide for years and agree that it is the easier way to go. Did you also know that you can add items to the Master Slide from the main view? All you have to do is right click on the item and at the bottom select "Add to theme". I typically use the "Title Slide". If I want it to appear on every slide I'll choose "Master".

  • @mjchang2289

    Love your videos. I learned how to make master slides recently, too. One different thing I do is insert a textbox field on the master so my students can type their answers without deleting the text field by accident. 😄

    • @mindyturner8049
      @mindyturner8049 4 роки тому +2

      So every text box created on a master can be typed in by students?

    • @mjchang2289
      @mjchang2289 4 роки тому +17

      @@mindyturner8049 Yes if you select that option under the Text Box icon on the toolbar. You have 4 options: Text Box (teacher edits), Title placeholder (students can edit - 28 pt size), Subtitle placeholder (students can edit - 18 pt size), and Body text placeholder (editable staggered outline -14 pt size). The text field sits in the space you set and has the words "Click to add title/ subtitle".

    I have been using the edit slide master now for a few weeks since you had mentioned it in an earlier video. I agree, it is a game changer!! I love it. I teach special education students and we do a “today at school” activity everyday. I’ve moved this from a paper activity to a google slides activity so we can practice computer skills at school in case we get sent home again (we are in person learning right now). I love that I can change the items on the slides for each week so now I can easily have them circle and find the book we read for the day, targeted sight words and count different theme items. Now I just edit the master for each week to change the items and it’s quick and easy!! Thanks for all your great tips.

    An idea to add to this would be to make a slideshow, editing the masters and leaving placeholders like Michelle showed, but don't add your content. Save it with a name like "Lesson Template - Make Copy" to remind your self not to edit this file. When you are ready to make a lesson, open your template file and under the file menu, choose "make a copy." Now you have a file with all of your masters already created and you can build from there.

    Hey Michelle! How long does it usually take you, once you have your “go-to” masters created, to post new lessons for your class everyday? We are going to a hybrid model soon and I’m thinking to use slides to keep it simple for both online kids and in class kids to follow along. But I also have 2 kids of my own and we only get 40 minutes a day to plan at school so I don’t want to spend my whole evening making lessons. Thanks so much for your time in responding. 😊
