The tracing method shown (OLL and CLL separately) is a starter tracing method. Eventually, you will trace/predict differently for different cases (first face becomes like "cases" much like F2L pairs stop being intuitive). When you're more experienced, you can visualize the movement of some/all pieces rather than tracing. But by the time you reach that level, you don't need this tutorial anymore. This tutorial is just for people new to one looking. If you're wondering how the heck this gets done in 15 seconds of inspection, keep in mind that consistent practice will level you up just like it always does! (a few months ago I couldn't 1-look a 2x2 in 1 minute)
This is tangential and unimportant (much like 2x2), but my response to your contest to solve using only Jperms was the first video on my channel, one year ago, so I wanted to thank you for making me start a channel :-)
0:48 2 algs for CLL (EG-0) are just PLL algs because the top is already oriented, 3 of them are PBL algs for EG1, and 3 are PBL algs for EG2, so you already know them. Then, for CLL, 7 are algs you already know because you know from OLL, and you might know the recognition or even more cases depending on prior knowledge.
Thanks for this video! I've been learning one-look for a month now with semi regular practice. It's going a lot better than in the beginning, tho I didn't do much practicing past week and I notice it when I cubed today. I've been told that learning to consistently one-look when you only know CLL is incredibly helpful. Way harder, but makes one-looking EG a breeze once you learn it (as well as learning to build efficient layers). Thoughts?
I'm not sure how many moves a layer takes, but one looking through like 9 moves sounds really tough in 15 seconds. it definitely sounds doable, but I'm not sure about it. I'd have to ask someone who learned that first
@@JPerm Yeah, really hard. I think that person averaged low 2 with pure CLL because of his OL skills. Although at that point it'd be better off to just learn EG. Still, practicing one-looking with CLL doesn't hurt for < 4 move layers.
for me right now 6 moves is when I have to start tracing pieces instead of visualizing them all at once or in groups. although eventually every possible face will just feel like a separate case. on CLL this isn't quite so easy because every layer is made so differently due to permutation mattering as well.

It’s not actually that hard you just need to memorize which pieces get swapped. For example, FRUR’U’F’ swaps the front two pieces and the back two pieces, and R2U2RU2R2 doesn’t really swap any pieces but it rotates the pieces by a U’.
