Many of you asked for it, here it is! No AoE4 or WC3 tonight, we're diving into the interesting world of Total War: Warhammer III! Let's start at the beginning and go for a campaign, I'll be choosing the charming Nurgle race!
I like you're playing more RTS games besides Warcraft 3 don't get me wrong I love that game but when you play the same game over and over again it does get tiring even with some updates no matter how minor or major they are so it's nice that you're playing a game and I thank you for that
I'd expect that you'll go for slaanesh campaign due to how it fits a bit of your preferred playstyle.
But thats fine, this is a different game afterall.
Oh, I would love if you did go for more Total Warhammer in the Future.
Total War has a couple of uncommon mechanics to get used to:
a) The leadership (morale) mechanic during battles is very important. It is often easier and better to rout enemy units than to kill them. This is rater intuitive if you think about what would scare you during a battle: Fighting a large monster, being outnumbered, seeing a lot of your buddies dying around you or running away, and (the most important one in Total War, that you always should try to achieve) getting attacked in the rear or flanks. The chaos demons work a little different, as they can't really die in the lore. Instead of routing, they start to take damage over time, but they will never run away. Chasing down fleeing units will cause them to take a lot of damage. During the campaign, you often won't be able to destroy an enemy army in the first battle. Casualties sustained during a battle will carry over to the campaign. Killing a lot of routing units will make it easier for you to finish them off in the next battle.
b) Your lords (generals) are very powerful units that can carry a battle at the start of a campaign. They deal a lot of damage, have magic to support your army, and are hard to kill. If you have directional spells (like the one your lord has), you can hold down Ctrl to set the direction in which the spell will go off. This is useful for sending a spell along the enemy frontline. The best way to kill an enemy hero or lord, is to use one of your own. Your lord (Ku'Gath) has a ranged attacked which he uses by default, but you can toggle him between melee and ranged attacks in the UI, or by selecting him and pressing 'f'.
c) Selecting a unit and pressing 'i' reveals unit stats. Health are hitpoints, armor reduces incoming damage, leadership dictates how much a unit can take before running away, melee defense and attack are basically chances of successfully performing or negating an attack when fighting and are compared against each other, and charge bonus gets added to melee attack when a unit is charging.
d) Units work quite the same like in AoE. Use your infantry to protect artillery and missile units and send faster units around the enemy flank to charge them in the rear to apply that sweet leadership/morale penalty to the enemy.
Excellent beginner friendly breakdown, I'll add some of my own:
a) Heroes are, like lords, incredibly powerful and often underestimated by newer players. Whilst a bit vulnerable to begin with, as the AI likes to target them and they don't have the same defences as your Lord, once levelled up they can become very strong fighters in their own right, provide buffs to your units and have access to many powerful abilities like summons and magic.
b) Summons are temporary units in each battle. For example each chaos faction has access to a Cultist hero that can summon up to 3 units of lesser daemons and one greater daemon per battle. So 1 hero in your army provides 4 extra units that are completely free and disposable. Use them to absorb the incoming missile fire, tie down dangerous enemies, an emergency bodyguard for your unit that got caught out of position, or summon directly behind the enemy as battle lines engage for the instant flank. Many other factions have summons and some of the most powerful strategies are built around them, yes-yes!
c) Stances are available to armies on the campaign map, such as Encamp, Ambush and March.
Be extremely careful with March. Don't use it unless it actually makes a difference to how many turns it will take to travel somewhere and you're certain there are no threats nearby.
Channelling increases your magic supply, but is especially important to the chaos factions, as a high supply with confer buffs to your army whilst a low supply will inflict some fairly crippling buffs to replenishment rate, physical resistance, movement range. It only has a small penalty to movement range, so use it by default if nothing else is necessary to keep those winds of magic high
Ambush in probably the most underestimated and confused, think of it more as Hiding. You will notice a stat called Ambush Success chance, that is modified by the terrain you're currently in. This is the chance that you will successfully spring the ambush if you remain Undiscovered. Ambush Success chance does not affect if you will be discovered, this is a completely hidden number but is roughly 'the closer you are to an enemy army/hero/city the easier you will be discovered'. Now the overlooked part is that if the army goes undiscovered, the AI will make its moves as if that army didn't exist. It is after all, successfully hiding. Many players get frustrated at the experience of chasing down a weaker army that refuses to fight them, but will raid and sack if not dealt with. Instead of running after it for 10 turns, position your army tactically, hide it, the AI will make its move unaware, probably overcommitting, giving your army a change to catch up to them.
d) Diplomacy is its own tangled web, but here's a easy quick one. If the AI offers you money for an agreement, never accept on face value because they are undercutting you. Renegotiate, delete their offer of money then click the Balance Offer button (scales icon in the middle) 99.9% of the time they will pay you more than the original offer, sometimes dramatically more. Who doesn't like free money?
e) Autoresolve is not your friend. It is death, destroyer of campaigns. It is the graveyard of empires. "Low Casualties" it says, deceiving the player so hard it made Tzeentch uncomfortable.
Loved your WC3 & AOE4 game plays. Cant be more happy to see you finally trying Warhammer as well. Keep up the good work!
I'm excited to see how you adapt to this style of turn based and rts game play!
Did NOT expect this, but WELCOME
Well, playing Warhammer Fantasy is kind of like playing Warcraft, since Warcraft was supposed to be a Warhammer Fantasy RTS game before licensing problems kicked in. Back to our roots!
> UI is always this big
No... you forget to click "apply changes"
Ahhh...Grubby tempts...his very...soul...
But...Wtii...Richard...he will soon have a...challenge...😈...
Hey Grubby. Love seeing you play this and you learning the ropes while doing so instead of already being a master at it and knowing all the facets at once. Hope for more of this!
Oh my goodness!!! 1 year later only now i stumbled this video!!! Thos is so aweso,e!
bro this is a dream come true!! My all time favorite wc3 player playing my favorite game :o 2022 is a blessing in disguise!
Btw Grubby you might wanna take a look at the keybinds and such. Example clicking K removes all UI (In battle) to get cinematic view and N zooms in to get better close ups :) Just some fun stuff but very enjoyable when you know you are winning and just wait. Enjoy the carnage your units unleash :D
KEEP THE VIDS COMMING
Hype!! Thanks for bringing us this first peak Grubby!
how does this have so little views i haven't been so hype to watch a video since 2007
yooo Warhammer 3 lets goo. The Warhammer series is a solid series. Clocked over 500hrs on number 2 and I rarely play any new game these days more than 50h
Edit: Also for you Grubby, it has a decent PvP scene, with the first world championship held just last year if I remember correctly. And the developers seem to have invested decently into making the PvP for game 3 more competitive and deeper than the second game.
Love to see more! I own the game but have no clue how to play properly
Check out Zerkovich. Most of his videos cover the second game, but the mechanics are pretty much the same. His unit breakdowns and "why you suck" videos are very helpful.
Ok grubby playing warhammer now this is
Interesting ❤️❤️❤️
Been watching your recent Warcraft 3 video saw that you a Total War Warhammer 3. I see what you were saying. Seeing someone that is a legend at Warcraft 3 playing a game that is easy to me but a little confusing to you. I use to be a gold range in Warcraft 3 but haven't played in a while. Now I'm a Silver try hard in Warcraft 3. Probably going to get demoted to bronze here soon.
This week I was thinking how cool would it be you playing this game :0 Interesting with this power I might have the oportunity to be rich!! Nice video tho ;)
Hell yeah Grubb Nurgles the best :D
HI i'm new to your channel. Your content is awesom!
Lookin forward 4 OGORS!
Any recent games of you playing French vs abbasid? Love the content
Id love to see some more warhammer 3 in the future!
More, by grandfather more!!!
i like to see grubby play rts games! But this warhammer is abit to clunky of rts for me, but i do hope Frost Gaints game will be amazing!
Total Warhammer is a great game and I'd love to see some multiplayer from Grubby ♥
Go daddy Kugarth!!!
Nice see you play this man.
You need to try some ranked multiplayer when you get your bearings
Grub, you should really try multiplayer, I can walk you through it if you want.
You rule Grub.
Did you play the prologue!! The guy yuri is totally Arthus!! but turned into a ugly monster
Holy shit how did I miss this O.o
Looks interesting. I'd watch more of that
Blizzard or Microsoft should work with total wars to make a Warcraft total war, would be sick.
Nurgle are the weakest race, highest costs for the weakest units (and bad auto resolve)
If micro avtiblizz makes warcraft 4 properly ill overlook what you did on Epsteins island Bill.
gg
First! 😁
