Former diplomats analyze India’s notice to Pakistan over Indus Waters Treaty

- Hours after India issued notice to Pakistan for modification of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) of September 1960 after Islamabad's actions adversely impinged the provisions of the treaty, according to sources, Former Indian diplomats analyzed New Delhi’s move and expressed their opinions over the prolonged issue. The notice was conveyed on January 25 through respective Commissioners for Indus Waters as per Article XII (3) of the IWT. The objective of the notice for modification, according to sources, is to provide Pakistan with an opportunity to enter into intergovernmental negotiations within 90 days to rectify the material breach of the IWT. This process would also update IWT to incorporate the lessons learned over the last 62 years.

Enough is enough. They've declared us as their enemy nation multiple times on international platform. They called our prime minister "terrorist" and questioned the legitimacy of our SC, then why not show them a bit of terror and scrape the indus-water treaty altogether. This neighbour is the worst crisis of humanity, they're the worst of humanity. Different videos showing plight of pakistanis makes your heart feel pity for them, then you remember how they laughed and enjoyed when our country was attacked by terrorists they train.

Nehru was over generous in allocating 80% of water to Pakistan in the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 . Maximum water for Pakistan should have been less than 50%/ India should seek a review in her favour of Indus Water Treaty. But for the present India is taking the right steps well within her rights in the Indus Water Treaty i.e. Stopping totally the waters of River Ravi by constructing Shahpur Kandi Dam and dams on Ravi’s tributaries like River Ujhh and River Basantar .
Construction of maximum number of hydro electricity dams / navigational facilities on Rivers Chenab , Jhelum and Indus and also utilising fully ,for irrigation-al / drinking water purposes, India’s small share in these rivers.

First of all India’s Permanent Indus Water Commission believes that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), brokered by World Bank between the two countries in 1960, was “fair” to India if it could utilise all its rights given under the pact.
But reality is we could not utilise our rights in terms of rivers, which have been given under the treaty.
And now we scrap that treaty to utilise the entire water for ourselves
