I sharpened my Philips rotary blades using a very fine flat sharpening stone surface. I lubricated the surface with oil and proceeded. It worked out terrific!
I noticed you posted a new video, and I clicked on it with the intention on leavening a comment about the inspiration I get from your videos. And what does the Ronster do, he's shaving, on UA-cam. I love it :) Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the inspiration you give me, and I'm sure many of your viewers will agree on that. And I must tell you that because of your videos, I finally ordered a complete setup (a long time dream is being coming to life). This Wednesday a new lathe, tools, and a lot more is being delivered. The thing is, I hate writing with pens, so I'm hunting down mechanical pencils kits. And they are extremely hard to find I Norway. And ordering them from US or U.K. Is not an option, the shipping charge is higher than the kit(s) it self. I'm rambling on here, so anyway, thank you, and keep up the amazing job you do.
Sir, I have been looking for a way to DIY sharpen my electric shaving rotors, I have an antique one, I love it, I believe you should have had more hair on your face when you tried it it would have shown how much hair it was shaving off, your face did not have enough hair and it was hard to see if it was cutting your facial hair. This looks like a good DIY way to sharpen the rotors and I can't wait to get started on my own. TY for the tip.
I always thought I was the only one making those kinds of faces when I shave. Lol. Great video, I often wondered if they could be sharpened, and heck to buy a new head is a small fortune! Thanks, I now have one more thing to do this coming week. haaaaa
I usually shave every other day. Should I let it go for 3 days, I feel itchy. Tried a mustache about 35 years ago. Didn't' like it! Anyway, enough personal information here, lol. :)
Great idea! Funny how some little things that can annoy us for so long can be corrected so quickly. Hmm, now that I think of it, maybe that's why I gave up shaving a few years ago :~)
Well................... that's a first for me Ron. I've never watched a guy shave before. What's this UA-cam thing comin' to?????? Perhaps you can do your legs next. :-) :-) See ya tomorrow. JimE
Thank very informative i am waiting for delivery of 3 round sharpening blades that can supposedly do what you did. If they don’t work you’ve given me a backup plan thanks.
Remington used to sell sharpening compound back in the 70's . I have not been able to find it. you just put it in the heads and ran it a little while. wash and dry and use. I helped but wore out the heads quicker.
I can recall when I was a kid hearing that new car engines were delivered with a sort of break-in oil. The idea was to run it for a specified distance then change to regular oil.
HOLY JEEBUS! It Worked! Its a Young Robert Redford! Im doin the same thing you did! ...(20 min later) Aw Dang it Mr Calverley, it didnt work for me. I still look like a badly balding middle aged asian guy with now a bad Bleedin fu manchu goatee. I must have the wrong brand shaver =) TY for the up sir. was already lookin to buy a new set o blades for my sensor T 3d but gonna try this first. U got my Thumbs Up! aww crap my thumbs bleedin too...J/K ROFL!
Will only work with older style blades. Most new shavers have a slightly round blade profile, so you can't hone it flat. You can buy a tool for the new shavers to sharpen them, see my video review here:ua-cam.com/video/kxdysOEUAPU/v-deo.html
A quantity of metal is lost and so there is a greater distance between razor and grid. It cuts the short hairs better but leave the high ones that are close to the grid. So I don't think it's worth it.
@@roncalverley Dimit, the blade is spring loaded against the grid. So the spring just extends a bit further to keep the blade in contact with the grid, by design. Without the spring, the shaver wouldn't even work well out of the box. Also when shaving you are constantly pushing the grid into the blades. Also, he tried it and it was better - more evidence that it works.
Nope. He used polishing compound not a hacksaw. Basically there was a bit of metal dust. In fact, he probably removed more gunk - that had attached to the blades than actual metal. As with sharpening any blades you don't need to go mad, just a few turns in the compound should suffice.

I'll keep your idea in mind Jerry. Thanks 👍

If you think those faces were interesting, you should see how bad it is when I don't have a camera pointed at me, lol :)
well done !
Thanks for the inspiration
Keep on trucking (from France) !
Thank you for your comment :)
I always preferred blades when I used to shave, but I gave up on that about 6 or 7 years ago. I'm hoping to look like Gandalf when I'm old.
