''Peter Hook has recalled how he and Bernard Sumner were re-taught Joy Division‘s ‘New Dawn Fades’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers before they played it on stage with Moby in 2001.
The Joy Division duo were invited by Moby to perform the 1979 song, which featured on the band’s debut album ‘Unknown Pleasures’, with him while New Order were touring with the ‘Play’ artist as part of his ‘Area 1’ North America tour in 2001.
Speaking during a new interview that was conducted with Hook for an online ‘In Conversation’ event to mark the 40th anniversary of Joy Division’s ‘Closer’, Hook recalled how the unlikely music lesson from the Chilis came about.''

Wow so it was more like John Frusciante re-taught them. He must have loved it being a huge fan and covering it in many of his solo gigs around the time he was all wigged out.
What makes you think it was John Frusciante and not Flea? They both love joy division

I found a 30+ year old tape of my band. I couldn’t remember how to play most of the songs either lol!
That's why ear traning is important!

As a youth I was listening to Unkown Pleasures and the Uplift Mofo Party plan in 1988.
I was just listening to new dawn fades in my car on my way home just less than an hour ago. Ian Curtis will never be forgotten unknown pleasures will continue to inspire.

RHCP get a lot of hate but “I could have lied” off of blood sugar sex magic is one of the most underrated songs of all time. As a massive Cure fan that song had a huge impact on me and I’ve had a soft spot for the band ever since.
@@HerveBoisde Yeah man... The Cure is my favorite band but Frusciante is my favorite guitar player so it was pretty cool to hear he was influenced by Robert Smith. I Could Have Lied is a great song. Did you know that was written about Sinead O'Connor?

Legião Urbana were great and Renato Russo a brilliant songwriter. Such a tragedy when he died.

He said it was 14 years after the joy division broke up. It might’ve been the OHM era so it would’ve been flea and Dave probably.

How the hell could RHCP “teach Joy Division” anything? They didn’t form until 1983, Joy Division didn’t exist after 1980.....
He saying they forgot how to play many years later and they wanted them to play the song with them. So, they had to teach them how to play the song again.

RHCP are one of those bands that you listened to back in the day, but never bothered to buy their CD. They were part of the scene, but weren't that important. As they got older, they got more boring and annoying.
