- Unbelievable New Dawn Fades Live Version !
Joy Division - New Dawn Fades (Live The Rainbow 9.11.1979)
Photo : Ian Curtis of Joy Division performs on stage at the Rainbow Theatre, London, 4th April 1980.
The darkest, most haunting version of Ian Curtis' absolute masterpiece. Humanity sure as hell lost something, when Ian died.
Rage, Rage and Rage. No space for manners, no place for fake. Brute jewel, unsurpassed, eternal!
I still every damn year light a candle and cries my eyes out at the 18th of May. Counting down to this years mourning- rituale in five days. Those we give remembrance to never truly die. ❤ St. Ian ❤
In a weird way, we also gained a lot from his loss. His art took on new meaning, a weird sort of life in the absence of his own. It's as if Ian's soul now haunts his music, and has found a new home. He sacrificed himself to bring us sheer beauty, distilled from the horrors and pains of his life. We are indebted to him.
Such a fucking writer. I can't spend one day without listening to New daws Fades, Disorder and She's lost control. But the 1st I mentioned will remain my favorite as his lyrics are like his cry for help nobody took seriously...
❤️👊🏾
When the hellish audio quality cannot even begin to compete with the power of the performance, that's when you know this was a godly show.
Fact!!!
Listen to the Paradiso gig, probably the best sound of all the bootlegs. Awesome stuff ❤
I feel the audio quality gives more darkness and feeling (my english is so bad sorry, i hope u understand)
@@aud527that was perfect English lol
This is the vocal performance of a man possessed with a catharsis of emotions. It is hauntingly beautiful and is why I love live music. Martin Hannett was a genius in the studio but nothing compares to the sheer, raw energy of Joy Division on stage.
"Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire
Can't seem to feel it anymore
It was me, waiting for me
Hoping for something more
Me, seeing me this time
Hoping for something else"
Can´t find anyone that hasn´t felt like that at least once in their life.
i think ian felt like that every day... so do i
You can just hear the raw energy of the dark melody. This is a band at peak power
👍And I thought I was probably through hearing fresh observations about Joy Division.
holy jesus, just look at this picture. he is not singing, he is crying for help. this perfomance killed me
3:01 I jg😊 v f fcr
“Watching it fade away” I wish that part made it into the studio version
Powerful
A change of speed, a change of style
A change of scene, with no regrets
A chance to watch, admire the distance
Still occupied, though you forget
Different colors, different shades
Over each mistakes were made
I took the blame
Directionless, so plain to see
A loaded gun won't set you free
So you say
We'll share a drink and step outside
An angry voice and one who cried
We'll give you everything and more
The strain's too much, can't take much more
Oh, I've walked on water, run through fire
Can't seem to feel it anymore
It was me, waiting for me
Hoping for something more
Me, seeing me this time
Hoping for something else
My favourite joy division track. The lyrics hit hard. I used to play this back in the late 90s when i was in a band. Every time we played it, it nearly brought me to tears. Powerful
i was there. Intense doesn't do it justice. Raw, emotional and beyond music as most people will ever experience it. We lost Ian and got Bono, one of life's great injustices.
Of course it would be stupid to compare darkness and deepness of Ian’s poetry with teenager Bono’s first songs, but actually, who knows what JD would became with lan alive ? Not sure that New Order sound would fit with ian’s voice and attitude….
U2 has some decent songs
Haha. Bono was, WAS, awesome until he turned into a pretentious prick. Well, I guess he always was he just didn't have a big enough platform yet to show how much of one he is.
No you were not.
Are you seriosly comparing Bono with Ian? I mean I have nothing against Bono, but it`s just... not comparable... Ian was an artist, same as DBowie was, Iggy, the greats.
Fuck dude. That drummer is killing it.
Mesmerizing. Revolutionary. Nasty. Raw. Legendary. The band that spawned a generation. I can still feel the excitement of that time, and how the music was like throwing a molotov cocktail down the dusty worn out alley of smoothed out 70's pop trash.
very well put
Nothing can compete with this. Lyrics are amazing, and the desperation in Ians voice. Absolute magnifisant!
It's always interesting to see how the same song can change based on inflection of the singer: this version being the angry, defiant Ian while the last concert on Still version is the depressed, resigned, and defeated Ian.
Now, minute per minute, this is 43 years that Ian Curtis left us, but, forever in our Heart and Soul.... Raw energy, perfection.
OMG Ian's live vocals are so intense. Holy smokes.
Ian Curtis and Rozz Williams are my heroes ❤😊
Joy Division were one of the most powerful bands of all-time!
The black sabbath influence shines through in sumner's tone, yet it manifests a place of its own, the sign of a true musician.
exactly,
Sai dae noia
Black Sabbath ! Your on the wrong vibe there Joy Division have no relation whatsoever to them , Hooky vaguely played a bit of heavy stuff but different genre all together.
@@andygretz I think he meant more so the tone of his guitar (and the way he plays the solo). Bernie is known to strap on an SG even back then, so it’s not so far fetched.
And Sabbath had a more diverse sound in the mid 70s most don’t acknowledge . Bits of jazz, folk, and prog mixed in w/ the heavy
the one and only Ian Curtis - his voice & poetry changed my life
To idio ya mena /Same for me (sorry my Greek writing is limited)
mal
First ever gig I went to. I was 15.
man you're lucky
Omg please tell me more about
I'm one of those ignorant fuks who came across this song from the movie. It sounded so good and I ended up looking it up. Went down a rabbit hole and became a serious Joy Division fan. Wish they put out more work.. But with legends you get what u can
Better late than never 🖤
I first listened to Love Will Tear Us Apart years ago and now I'm getting really into Joy Division because I explored their music more. I do like New Order, but Joy Division was an entirely different beast altogether. Every album JD made was great all around. My personal favorite is Still.
Darkness is coming, Absolute masterpiece
The heavier distortion really works amazing here. Better than the studio version.
the intro solo shakes my soul, simple and beautiful, pure art
rest safe ian
I love this song with an upper tempo, got that punk and metal feeling
The Rage, The Pain, The Panic.
So Tragic, but its a Legendary song.
One of the best ever made.
Anthem of all dark music. I prefer heavy metal and Black Sabbath, but this song and Joy Division in general are final range of dark music. This is the best sound of bass guitar I've ever heard!
One of best song in music history
The holy voice of Ian Curtis...
I cried hearing this. I can say it is one of the most poingnant moments in music history ever since the time of creation and we’re hearing it.
Wooooowwww!!!! L'énergie brute, l'instrumentation au top, le désespoir perceptible, la classe
this track always makes me remember that quote of nietzsche "if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss also will gaze back into you."
ian Curtis, my only hero
In 1980 I was anxiously awaiting to see JD in Toronto, I was 16. A couple of weeks before the show the local radio station broke the news. Best band then , best band I have heard since then.
We all grieved, but understand. Ian's epilepsy had accelerated to where only increasing barbiturates controlled it. He saw himself as a human rug in a hospital bed on a morphine drip.
@@phylliselizahb1041 Interesting comment, how do you know that ?
2021 and still watching it fade away................ #RIPIan
I wish the audio quality wasn't potato. The intensity is incredible here.
tbh I like this version more than the original. it's dark, raw and heavy
as a black metal fan, im not sure you know what potato sound is, nor that you understand how to enjoy the potato sound!
It is the imperfection and dirtiness of the recording that makes this song special. Perfection is for the shallow.
Trve Kvlt level
The music of my youth, the music of my life
No doubt, this is their best song... very classic...
Perfect sound of bass guitar, the darkest one! Ian's voice is so full of energy in this performance, guitar, drums, everything is perfect! Absolutely the best performance of absolutely the best JD song!
Imagine being at an actual joy division gig
Like *holy shit you're actually there hearing and watching them play irl*
I have just discovered this version and I can't stop listening to it. I've liked Joy Division since I was 10 (11 years ago) but this recording has finally made me see how Curtis handled his pain. Very inspiring.
Сейчас тебе уже 24?
I love Joy Division... I have Shadow Play with my red Phoenix Art... on my channel.
check it out sometime. this Raven drawing is one of mine.
I STUMBLED UPON THIS VERSION A FEW YEARS AGO AND WAS BLOWN AWAY,THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL,RAW VERSION OF THIS MASTERPIECE.#WATCHINGITFADEAWAY #RESTINPEACEIAN
+thorazine666 world is who his world as ? what say?
Where in the world is hope? Watching it fade away.
WATCHING IT FADE AWAY! damn , this is the most intense version recorded. I notice , Peter Hook played this version 2 notes higher than the studio version, that's makin it more intense 👌
Probably the pitch change is something from the tape with which it was recorded
Best version of this song.
So raw. Genius.
The bass guitar is amazing!
❤THE SUPREME BAND❤
No dislikes. Solid. This explains how legendary this performance is.
good job buddy
The greatest record ever made. A masterpiece.
Love this song. Touched my soul...
Que grande fuiste ian curtis.
This is a masterpiece. I've only ever listened to the recorded version. The change in speed, the raw energy, you can tell that they are really feeling the song. This is one of Ian's greatest performances, his best in my opinion. The world lost him to soon. R.I.P Ian Curtis.
Get a copy of Still.
@@jessiecuster3191 yes, brilliant album, amazing the difference between Still and the martin Hanett version.
Masterpiece!!!
Everyone listens to this version for that middle section. That shit hits hard.
Hits you in your soul
it's as if they took one music lesson and just filled the rest with a desire to make music...
Likely this recording is a half- or whole-step fast, adding to the eerie quality and making Ian's already awesome performance sound like opera.
It sounds fucking badass though. Holy shit. This version is in F minor, so it's a whole step.
Ian belting out the lyrics makes me feel something
This is a "Power" I listened a few times and now im ready go to work!
Nothing before. Nothing after. Joy Division. 'Nuff said. (MMom, WRUW, 1980)
Remarkable sound for a late 70's band, up there with Husker du for influencing and changing music.
A mesmerising version of a stunning song .god bless Ian and joy division
Dios! Se siente como se quiebra su alma , la mejor versión que escuche.
This hits wayyyy harder live
Stunning music would kill to see this live!
Emotions are powerful and dangerous if you dig deep enough. Don't let dark feelings engulf you. You have a choice.
this reminds me of a dream i had where i was in a stupor and fell backwards through a hill of snow into a graveyard behind an old church late in the dead of night. it took me hours to get up and my klonopin was scattered all throughout the snow which i think is really significant. it was like trying to move in water or moving backwards. there were houses behind there and as i screamed for help an old man told me to shut up and threatened me from behind his window but i never saw him. i was still trying to gather the klonopin in the snow even though i refuse to take it irl despite being ill
everything was like another time period and there were train tracks in the street. i remember hearing another version of love will tear us apart with female vocals and synths, but the weirdest thing is in the end i was ian in the dark, in the passenger's side of a british car with either his wife or my mother. i'm from america so i thought i was in the driver's seat but no. i have 'sleep shakes' so for all i know something could have been happening to me during the dream
Wow terrific extreme version indeed, with maybe some recording sounds issues making Ian's voice even a bit shaky at times but the performance is strong enough to catch us off guard...Probably one of the shortest live duration of this song as well. Thanks for the upload.
ian curtis 😍😍😍😍
Amo está versión, directo al alma. ✨❤
2021 Amazing
WE'LL SHARE A DRINK AND STEP OUTSIDE
AN ANGRY VOICE, AND ONE WHO CRI-I-I-IED
I'LL GIVE YOU EVERYTHING AND MORE
THE STRAIN'S TOO MUCH, CAN'T TAKE MUCH MO-O-O-ORE
I'VE WALKED ON WATER, RAN THROUGH FIRE
CAN'T SEEM TO TAKE IT ANYMO-O-ORE
IT WAS ME, WAITING FOR ME THIS TIME
HOPING FOR SOMETHING MORE
WATCHING IT FADE IT AWAY, WATCH IT FADE AWAY
Absolute brilliance!
Listen the king voice
IT WAS MEEEEEEEE, WAITING FOR ME THIS TIME-- HOPING FOR SOMETHING MORE!
DAMN IT SO POWERFUL! I FELT THAT, JUST AS IAN INTENDED THE REAL PEOPLE TO!!!
JD live are raw . I love it.
I may join him soon.
Same
You know it's funny to hear from people of why they don't take Ian Curtis' as a vocal performer seriously. They say he didn't have the proper technique like Ronnie James Dio used to have, neither that awsome timber of the late Freddie Mercury. While in the reality it's all about broadcasting yourself through the vocal means, and the emotions that he'd managed to express via his voice is gorgeous. Well this record is 41 or 42 years old and it still impresses alot. What else should be said. Keep on doin' the science, guys who knows, maybe someday we'll be able to ressurect him through his DNA and witness another His performance)
Holy Shit !! Ian ! Omg
1:48 music needs to play twice. But ian comes right up.
Incroyable.... Pur talent.
love you ian
Awesome! Thank you so much for this. Spirtual...
Man this song just kicks so much ass. Just raw emotion in its purest form. So fucking brilliant.
quiet night out again :)
just incredible ! incredible strength !
Merci
Incroyable merci pour cette version
Beautiful.
VIELEN LIEBEN DANK...FRIEDEN und FREIHEIT...

O MIJ GOD THIS IS MORE HEAVE THAN THE VERSION ON STILL
Now I can die happy
God bless you Ian. 🙏
Here they come....the fog over the Ship Canal just gets darker.
Tune!
filled with the horror of our times....my favourite band since 38 years.
He sings like that because he means every word- it's not just nonsense lyrics like 99% of the stuff around now
I can't understand everything he says at the end, but it feels right.
another comment said it's "watching it fade away, watch it fade away"
