  • Years past, I have tried twice to locate my Grandpa and Grandma Reed’s house in Corning, Arkansas.
I was 7 years old when Grandpa died and 21 when Grandma died but living in Texas at the time. My earliest memory of visiting here was when I was 7.
Today was the THIRD time and I was successful.
Knowing they have a lot of old stuff, I called the Library, NO but they didn't but referred me to the Courthouse.
Very nice folks there. Turns out it was right across the street.

Nice! One of my grandparent’s homes is visible on Google Earth. The other grandparent’s home was moved more than 50 years ago, but I can still find its original location.

I’m surprised someone didn’t call the police on you for driving around and taking photos from public property. I took photos from the streets of several historic properties a few years ago, and in the next week’s Clay County Courier it was reported that a stranger was taking photos of houses.
Then around 2008 my sister and I took our 88-year-old parents to Corning, and were driving around town looking at the sites my mother remembered from her teenage years in the 1930s, and were pulled over by the police who wanted to know what we were looking at. Obviously, we were no breaking any laws, so why were we pulled over??
My ancestors were in and around what is now Corning for almost 200 years, but this town still is very paranoid and needs to grow up A LOT.
