  • We drive our Class A RV from New Mexico into Arizona where we visit the petrified national forest and Meteor Crater. I have seen the crater from the air many times and driven by it dozens of times but this was my first time to stop and explore the crater. Definitely worth the trip!

    We were visiting the crater hole back in 1989. while driving out to it we saw 6 alien space ships, 6 antelopes and 1 impact crater. It was expinsive to visit the hole back then too.

    FYI the Meteor Crater in Arizona is not part of the National Park system. It's privately owned. That's why it costs so much to visit, and why you can't use the regular National Park passes there to get in for free. It's designated as a "National Natural Landmark," which is a voluntary program under which the owners pledge to keep the site as it is. EDIT: Sorry...I posted this before finishing the video. You literally said the same right after I restarted it!

    Tip from an old RV’er. Get a spring loaded curtain rod and hang a nice shower curtain to isolate driver’s compartment and keep the cold AC in the cab. No need to cool the rear when you’re driving.

    Interesting tid bit, Apollo astronauts trained at the bottom of the crater as its surface was determined to be the most similar to our Moon than anywhere else on earth. Hence the astronaut at the bottom of the crater. I've visited the crater in the late 90's and its size plays tricks with your head, its one of those places you think you could walk around in no time or walk to the bottom easy peasy. I can't recall exactly but I think its around 3 miles in circumference.

    You said you flew over the crater? That must be a thing with pilots. lol My son is a AC130-J pilot in the Air Force. During his initial flight training his first cross country flight they flew over it and he took a picture for me. He's got a lot of other cool pics too from training flights with special forces. His co-pilot wasn't near as pretty as yours! lol Fun stuff and Dakota's a very nice part of the team. Fun stuff

    It's not about looking at it from European stand point, it's about the fact that the "modern murica" as we know it, doesn't really talk about or celebrate the old history. So the review mirror only goes back to somehwere mid-1700s

    I went to Meteor Crater back in 2012, and the most fun thing there was climbing the stairs to the top of the rim of the crater...where the winds get whipped up as they come through the crater, and can be two or three times as strong as the prevailing winds that day. Did you folks climb the stairs, or were they not allowing it due to the wind being too strong?

    Vast amount of open country that used to belong to the Native Americans. But they were brutally removed as part of the great westward expansion of America. And now it's all still uninhabited. How inhumane was that??

    • @jeffreygunn3530
      @jeffreygunn3530 8 місяців тому

      They moved away from the Four Corners region about 800 years ago, long before any Europeans were there. Most likely due to climate change. The water sources dried up, so they moved on. Same reason so few people live there today.

    • @dennyr6248
      @dennyr6248 8 місяців тому

      @jeffreygunn3530 That is the cover story. Dig into the unbiased information of the Indian Removal Acts of the 1830s all the way through the gold rush of California in the 1840s and 50s. Hundreds of thousands were removed west and southwest of the Mississippi at that time. Again, take time to look for unbiased research. This will be my last comment as this is not the place to debate. I was just stating known facts of American history

    • @xploration1437
      @xploration1437 8 місяців тому

      Denny, you need to learn some history instead of virtue signaling. Native Americans also slaughtered each other and the people here before them. Should Native Americans pay reparations to the people before them? How about the people before them. Your ignorance is really showing. Native Americans were conquered. Get over it beta boy.
