In competition I think I actually prefer no elbows to the face both to reduce chances of a cut stopping a fight early and I think it can make for a more “open” ground game with less smothering and more upright posture to throw punches.

You went and got each other a beer or 2 or 6 and treated each other with respect and even admiration. Some of my best friends were made that way. That is one reason you get 9 on one.
