To tell you you the truth, I actually really like this version of the Riddler, though different in quite a few ways. I enjoy a lot of the new twists, and turns that they bring to this character while keeping some some of the fundamentals of the character.

I kinda like this Riddler but its not my favorite. It feels like different character in most parts. Almost like someone imitating THE Riddler. I don't mind the new look. I kinda get behind the plan. I like the social media aspect. But there is something missing or wrong in the personality. I feel like he showed mental weakness too often and in wrong places. He should had been more confident and talk down people. Only time we see this is when he realizes how Batman didn't get his clues - and even then he doesn't badword batman at all - just gives a new clue. Movie was fine but i was hoping that after they arrested this poor kid that there would be plot twist that he was used by the actual riddler. But i guess i expected too much and thus got disappointed. Was still fine character - probably best live action movie Riddler we have had ever (so far). And his presence still made movie work - might had been one of the best batman movies (altho to me the actor did great batman but really poor Bruce Wayne - he looked good with mask but when he took it off i couldn't see Bruce anywhere).

I don't know why they wanted Riddler to look like the Zodiac Killer. Let me know if you think I made a mistake in my evaluation and if there's a Riddler you like to see reviewed. The next Riddler will be Arkham Asylum Riddler.

@@CaptainVile1852 Most likely not since most evil Supermen act as alternate universe counterparts to another version of Superman that make brief appearances like the Justice Lords Superman: DCAU Superman. For me, my biggest gripe against this guy is that he plainly and simply doesn't FEEL like Riddler. Oh sure, he meets the basic criteria, and I can't say Paul Dano is bad in the role, but this Riddler doesn't LOOK like a Riddler, and he doesn't ACT like a Riddler. So far as I'm concerned, his motivations just don't work for the character - a Riddler who isn't either starved for attention or obsessed with outwitting his foes (or both) simply isn't the Riddler. He feels like he's borrowing some other villain's shtick.

To be fair, he never accused Batman of cheating because Batman was totally behind him for the entire length of the movie.
Hopefully when we see this character again he can be even more Riddler-y. Him not having to cover his face up as his identity is out gives us a fine reason for a green suit with a green bowler hat.

Here's why I hate this Riddler: They turned the Prince of Puzzles, dripping with rizz and draped with a girl on each arm into an internet incel.
"Why did they turn him into the Zodiac Killer?" No, even that would have been interesting, a serial killer targeting young lovers in Gotham would have been a movie but in the Batman the Riddler has to remain a subplot. So what they did was turn him into an influencer troll, someone who was on Baman's side until he wasn't.
Agree or disagree: The Riddler is too vain to wear glasses, he'd either wear contacts or use Lasik.

  • @ryanwilliams6602

The riddles were pretty clever, and I liked the el ratta alata thing. I think he purposefully mistranslated the "el" in place of "la" so Batman would get the clue (URL-ratta alata). But Riddler's killing scenes look very amateur serial killer, especially with the heavy breathing when he does the duct tape, almost like he's getting off on it. He's supposedly very high IQ, so this was not fitting at all, and just felt like the script was like, "yeah, just act like you're turned on by it, ya know, typical serial killer vibes." Feels way off the mark and shows a lack of understanding of the source material, and doesn't even go with this portrayal's motive for killing in the first place. In the movie cannon, he kills for a political agenda, not for the pleasure of killing. I just hope in future installments he evolves into a more intelligent portrayal where he's trying to one up Batman's intelligence, like the source material.

Yeah, I thought it was weird how he sat on top of him to. His tantrum at the end felt more like Riddler, I hope they focus more on that in the next movie he's in.

    • @ryanwilliams6602

@@CaptainVile1852 I thought his tantrum at the end was pretty good and true to the character. Especially how he opens saying "Bruce Wayne". At first I thought he knew Batman's identity, but I had to watch a few more times and noticed Batman changes his facial expression when he realizes Riddler was implying that him and Batman were meant to take down Bruce Wayne as sort of partners. Riddler losing it after he realizes Batman doesn't approve of his brand of vengeance was a very true Batman moment.

You’ve said Once Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League comes out, you’ll unfortunately have to review its Riddler. While we wait for that, could I just say that most things done with the suicide squad tends to be crap? ESPECIALLY the 2016 film, I especially hate that one for introducing Punk Harley. While Jared Leto Joker never happened again AFAIK, the “Punk” version/design of Harley Quinn has reappeared a couple times, even as the protagonist of the 2019 “Harley Quinn” cartoon. Idk if it’s just me but I genuinely believe the design is awful and doesn’t suit the character at all.

Just out of curiosity, how come you'll be reviewing the Arkhamverse Riddler separately for each of his appearances in the games? If anything I think his progress through the games series as a character arc of him slowly losing more and more of his sanity. I really love that through each of his designs in every game you can see how his stability and mentality deteriorate. In Arkham Origins he doesn't entirely sound sure of himself. He looks quite fit and handsome like he actually takes care of himself but as the character progresses he becomes more and more unhinged. In Arkham Asylum he is more obsessed, in Arkham City he looks filled with dirt around his clothes, he has noticeable stubble, looks a lot skinnier and has gone to more extreme lengths to ensure Batman solves his riddles to the point where in Arkham Knight Batman is all he thinks about, so much so that he started building robots instead hiring more goons because they would only follow his commands. I love the taunts and the boasts and the way he just completely melts down when he's beaten because he can't even begin to comprehend that he's not the smartest person in existence.

Ya know what movie did a better live action Riddler than The Batman movie? The movie 12 rounds with John Cena. Not even joking. It has no connection with DC, but it nailed Riddler. Movie is about a criminal mastermind who puts John Cena(a detective) up against various tasks and challenges as revenge. It's a very fun watch, and the end twist is exactly something that Riddler would do.
