Having visited Puerto Vallarta twice now, we find we enjoyed the older parts of town (Old Town, Zona Romantica) much more than the glitzy resort and marina area (Nuevo Vallarta). The "locals only" parts of town feel more authentic to me. TBH, I have a cousin who moved from Canada to Vallarta over a decade ago, so we were able to reap the benefits of his local knowledge and circle of close friends who are locals or more experienced expats.
