I remember seeing MarI/O years ago, it was probably the first time I ever heard about neural networks. Really cool to see how much the world has changed since then.
@@abj136 Well yea but he also just said that it was for the opportunity to speak with Seth, maybe just said so the advertising isnt super blatant but idk
Super interesting to hear Ken Stanley’s perspective on machine learning given how prevalent and important it has become today, especially here on UA-cam.
Now you see I don't really appreciate Seth telling lies at the beginning of the video. There is no chance Mar IO was released 10 years ago, as that would make me like really old
Some of the most amazing projects online that we see on popular social sites like reddit, twitter or tiktok come from communities on each interconnecting, which perfectly proves the idea of serendipitous connection.
This was the most captivating, interesting, and inspiring sponsor segment I've ever listened to, lol. What Ken said really shows just how passionate he is about this stuff.
Can’t help but think how many meta levels of serendipity this whole video has lol. Really demonstrative of discovery and impact. Amazingly insightful interview. Never expected this video format here but very welcomed.

Mari/o was my first glimpse of the AI future we will have. Since I first saw it I’ve stayed up to date with cutting edge AI and seen the industry grow.
this maven thing sounds an awful lot like tumblr if it was controlled by an ai instead of by the user, maybe tumblr is the social media of the future... like 14 years ago?
History has shown time and time again that when you take power out of the user and put it in the platform, they always abuse it to push right-wing propaganda while suppressing genuine views they find unfavorable, usually left-leaning voices.
It seems like Maven is the Holy version of 4Chan. I mean I’m very interested in trying it out based on the background information the founder gave on it.
Honestly maven kind of reminds me of image boards such as 4chan. They also don't have any quality metrics, and are also capable of having long discussions too

Same dude
That video must've inspired so many to become computer engineers.
i remember seeing it be uploaded.. i was in highschool. it was super cool to me. i did end up pursuing compsci
Same!
I remember watching this in Middle School, this video definitely made me interested in taking Comp Sci in college.
oh my god, i remember watching the original videos when i was like 10
so true Konomi
@@Willty64 thank you for the reply, Willty
SAMEEE we're probably about the same age haha
oh my god, i was 10 in 2015
Ken is the one thanking sethbling for the opportunity?? Huge mutual respect going on here
Ken is promoting his social network. Seth is advertising it for free. Of course he’s thanking Seth.

This was my first intro to evolutionary systems. I now love simulated evolutionary systems
Very appropriate pfp
@@zacharynovak2180 fr! And I just got back into SPORE literally last night, too. That's a funny koinkidink innit!

I agree
😂
I was 12 years old 🧓
It really makes me feel old to have heard more than one generation of kids saying this. 😂
😂😂
Man saw the original video when I was 9 thought it was the coolest thing in the world now I'm studying machine learning in uni crazy how time flies

MarI/O into Elon Musk is weird twist lol.
MarI/O was my first exposure to neural networks
and i frequently thought about that video when seeing new advancements in AI.
really cool interview!
This was the most captivating, interesting, and inspiring sponsor segment I've ever listened to, lol. What Ken said really shows just how passionate he is about this stuff.
Welcome back, tanbling here
Looking forward to watching this. Thanks for still posting Seth 😎
shoutouts to Luigi/o
Wow. This video is just an hour of pure brilliance.
Awesome update and new information! I regularly share the original video with people trying to understand neural nets! (That and the Mario Kart video)
I came for the sethbling outro and left having reinstalled social media
bro i almost forgot about MarI/O, feels almost nostalgic watching your streams of this just running and having smooth mcgroove on in the background
Incredibly insightful talk from your guest, it got me totally hooked in
That video definitely was my first big exposure to neural networks and even AI and now I'm studying computer science!

Amazing interview, I feel like I've learnt so much from it
40:00 this part right here makes me excited to try out maven more.
I’m glad to see Seth is back back
what an interesting mind and what an interesting approach to finding genuine conversation
I'm super excited for Maven! I love Ken's vision. Just signed up
I still have MarI/O and run it from time to time. Most recently was about 6 months ago. I'm gonna pull that bad boy back out again!
SethBling Podcast?!

NO WAY Ken the OG himself on SethBling haha. I chose my first undergraduate thesis topic to be NEAT because of the original MarI/O video haha.
Hearing 10 years later, the fact that the NEAT paper is from 2002 is crazy ngl
i hope angry birds doesnt sue and your minigame catches on big time $$$
Thank you so much !🥰
10:15 yeah good call on that 😬
Ken's a super cool guy
Mari/o was my first glimpse of the AI future we will have. Since I first saw it I’ve stayed up to date with cutting edge AI and seen the industry grow.
i have no idea what this channel is but i see minecraft redstone and im instantly intrigued
wow the part around 23:00 changed me
Self Driving cars may have actually worked if they got Seth 😂
Counterargument to engagement implying interest in topic: one could simply chase topics that it doesn't like just to hate on them
Even less intentionally, engagement is very high with controversial or negative content.
This also signal-boosts bigots, which need to be moderated or they will make the platform utterly uninhabitable for many, many people
Wow this is actually so interesting
this maven thing sounds an awful lot like tumblr if it was controlled by an ai instead of by the user, maybe tumblr is the social media of the future... like 14 years ago?
I got same vibes
it reminds me of gnu social but without instances

Literally just saw the 9 year old video in class right now
We miss you
There’s no way I was 10 years old when I watched that old video
oh wow back to this
Neat!
Even though I didn't understand most of it, I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Maybe Tesla's self driving functionality would actually be functional if they had hired Seth :)
works just fine for me
Goodhart's Law
That video was 10 years ago?!
*The Lock Picking Lawyer, SethBling, and Mark ZuckerBerg are the same person!*
Amazing!
MarI/O was literally the first time I'd heard of machine learning
I didn't get notified of this >:(

OMIGOSH KENNETH STANLEY!!! Also did HyperNEAT!!!

I remember seeing this in middle school and trying to write my own perceptron in java. Thanks for the inspiration!
Cool idea, make it run on activitypub.
Omg MarI/O was 8 years ago?
30:39 I got scared
even more so knowing I'm on Android
very interesting
rhode island mentioned!
have you thought of presenting this to cognitive psychologists, as well as behavioral developmental therapists?
Interesting Video! Is there an API for maven?
OH MY GOSH
thank god you avoided working on self driving for Tesla. the burnout rate for them is outrageous
Multiple compliments: "OMG, you are the best, you inspired millions of people, you made this thing great"
Response: "Yeaaa"
Dude just explained Daoism in AI terms
Maven as in the package manager?
holy hell
NEAT might be good at Mario, but NEETs will always be better. xD
Is this the same Seth that was exposed by bolty
Maven sounds like the perfect breeding ground for an AI to learn to pretend to be human 😁
No way was bro building games with AI neural networks 10 years ago.
I feel odd about this, this is really interesting... however i feel obligated to ignore it because it is just an ad
why did i watch the whole entire thing?
Because your attention span isn’t ruined and you probably agree that there are huge problems of modern social platforms!
Cool
Ken gives me willem dafoe green goblin vibes
Now apply this logic to capitalism and you have an explanation for the biggest world problems
