I have been trying to knit this pattern for months. I finally realized, after viewing your video that I needed to have 4 stitch markers instead of the two the pattern said. I am using the magic loop and after the initial increases, I placed a marker on both needles to divide the stitches (and at the beginning of the round and middle) which lets me know where my increases are (2 stitches before the marker). I have only gotten a few rows so…..I really liked your cast on and will definitely try it. Please post more for us that are knitting challenged.

Thanks for your comment, I was just going to ask if its just 2 or 4 markers. The pattern looks like there should be 4 increases instead of 2. I've been doing practice cast ons for weeks now :)

Two markers are enough because “When directed to work to marker, work to either the next marker or the end of the current needle.” So, using magic loop you just place the markers in the middle of each side and make the increases both two stitches before the marker and two stitches before the end of the needle.

I just slowed this waaaay down. Still could not clearly see what or decipher the last bit when you were going back up to show the two stitches on the needle. What is that path. Behind all the loops on your fingers? Could not see this clearly.

I've been knitting for 3 years and I couldn't figure out what exactly she did! I slowed video and enlarged it. She did it so fast, I was like "wait, what"!

Your cat was always in the way of the camera and I could not see much of your lesson. Please do this video again without your cat in the way. Thank you very much.

Thank you for this tutorial, but unfortunately, when you were doing the first stitch, it was blocked so you could not see it. or anything else. Which stitch did you knit first stitch with? Did you join? With last stitch to 1st?

Oh no! So sorry about that. You just simply start knitting in the round - no joining required. I knit into the very first stitch that I placed a stitch marker in.

So sorry about that! I know it's hard to tell but I stopped doing anything on the needles while he was in the camera's view. 😅

The video is so blurry that I can’t read the label on the yarn. What yarn are you using? It’s pretty!

I got the eight stitch cast on from a different video. Yours is the one that I got made the beginning of the hat. Thank you so much I’ve been struggling for days. The key point for me was marking that first stitch. DPN’s remind me of pick up sticks a kid.😅

The crochet cast on is by far the easiest and quickest. plus if you use circular needles there's only a need for two markers. Nice professional video though. Each to their own I guess.

I would’ve liked to have seen how you started the knitting in the round with all those needles!😕

It gets so fiddly with all the needles going for sure. I chose this stopping point out of respect for the designer of the pattern. So sorry I can't show you more, but hopefully this video helps at least a little.

I tried the dpns first but then i realized that the pinhole cast on is a crochet magic loop..so much easier as i am a crochter trying to get better at knitting. Did magic loop to long circulars but only until i got 12 stitches on each needle to transfer to dpns....magic loop on circulars is kinda slow. Once i get to the end of the increases (those increases are stupid difficult) i will move to 16 inch circulars. My hat top is looking different than yours, it doesn't have the dividing bars at the top, i really hope i am doing this right, hopefully as more fabric is made, the pattern will emerge.

Omg I crochet too and it never crossed my mind to try magic loop. You're a genius! I totally agree. Getting this hat started is at the top of the list of things that make me crazy and border on rage quitting the most. 🤣

*Thank you* for this video. Adding markers makes a huge difference in making sense of knitting on double pointed needles. Having a cat who effectively hijacks your video enhances the viewer's experience! ;)
