+Lada, They could put some mechanical switches in them. For some reason, mechanical keyboards increase my WPM by 10 compared to a membrane, and unlike most membrane keyboards, mechanical keyboards have a faster response time, mainly to do with games that have a skill check in which you have to mash a key on demand at random.
I tend to realise that the skill check is registered instantaneous on a mechanical keyboard whereas a rubber done keyboard would take a split second, and that has saved my arse so many times when my reaction speed wasn't spot on.

Randomfrankp, you really shouldn't be confused about this product, at all. Razer already has mechanical keyboards that cover almost every aspect of what one would want in a keyboard. What would be the point of making this also a mechanical keyboard when they already have the Huntsman, the Black Widow Chroma, and the Ornata, with variations of each, among other keyboards? Where would this keyboard fit among those? It doesn't really have anything to offer. However, there is one demographic that Razer hasn't catered to yet, and those are the people that actually want a membrane keyboard. Yes, they do exist. So, in order to target that market demographic, to cover all ends of the consumer spectrum, they created this Cynosa.
Even knowing all of the subjective and objective benefits to a mechanical keyboard, some people, including myself, want something that is soft and quiet to type on. Membrane being exactly that as they have a rubber layer underneath, so that the hard plastic key cap doesn't bottom out with a "clack", but rather, almost no sound at all, depending on how hard you type. Some of us don't like being loud and obnoxious for the sake of typing feel. Some of us might also live with other people that we are trying to be considerate of and courteous toward, since most mechanical keyboards are loud enough, especially in homes with hard floors, to keep someone awake at night.
And honestly, I've tried multiple mechanical keyboards, and I personally don't feel any advantage using them over a membrane keyboard, again, aside from typing feel. My gaming isn't improved, I don't win any more than I did before, I just win louder. A mechanical would be nice, during the day, in an environment where no one cares about the sound, in fact, where I work, everyone has their own mechanical keyboard, but it makes the office an annoying hell listening to everyone clicking and clacking away, but since I work during the day, that means that I game at night, and where I live, night-time is quiet time, where membrane reigns supreme.
I want the individual RGB lighting, the underglow is nice too with the Pro, but I also want soft and quiet. This keyboard is perfect for those like me. Hard to believe, maybe, but we do exist and this is who this keyboard was made for.

Thank you! This summs it up perfectly.
I understand the arguments behind mechanical keyboards, but it feels like a lot of the gaming community doesn't even consider allowing some people to not want to use one.
Mechanical keyboards, though undeniably good, come with some cons that I myself can't overlook:
      - they often feel uncomfortably high for me
      - they're too loud even for myself, not to mention when someone is sleeping in the same room
Sure, you can counter these two by telling me to buy specific switches and keyboards with a low profile, but that leaves the higher price of mechs when compared to membranes, and the pro-mech marketing mantra of "but durability" is simply more annoying than true in my experience.
At any rate, more to the point on the video - I found myself looking for a midrange quality keyboard that isn't loud, which is how I went to try out Razer Ornata in a shop. Still a bit loud, but quite enjoyable, lead me to research the subject more, and finding a similar membrane one (and I'm not gonna lie - I kinda like how their rgb presets work with, for example, Overwatch) was exactly what I was looking for. If Cynosa had Ornata's wristrest I'm pretty sure I'd be ordering it already.

Most gamers use membrane keyboards. Are you insane? Mechanical keyboards are a hindrance when you're gaming.

Not sure who you are responding to here, but why are you asking if someone is insane and why do you think a mechanical keyboard is a hindrance when gaming. I only ask, because most gamers would argue the opposite.

It’s your opinion on what keyboard is better or worse. Razer is its own company which is a bit more stylish. Corsair is more performance wise. Since the entire mechanical side of the Ornata is about giving auditory and tactile feedback, Razer is essentially giving you a the entry-level equivalent of a Brown switch board in the Cynosa and a Blue switch board in the Ornata.

Fanuel not IT but I am aspiring, I agree that membrane keyboards are better for me. My Apex 7 from steelseries constantly mistyped and messed me up in games, because it pressed down with barely any force and actuated at 2.0 instead of full travel.

  • @eErudius
    @eErudius 7 років тому +2

Personally I was looking for a quiet keyboard that had great response... it's in a office environment that will also be used for casual gaming. It (the Cynosa) sounds VERY nice.
I personally don't like tactile response keys. I bought the yellow switch version of the Black Widow V2 for just that reason. But the noise was still a little clacky, plus having such a short activation time vs travel distance to bottom, I ended up using double o-rings to soften the clack and shorten the bottom-out.
I'm going to pick one of these up... thanks so much for your review.
**Since using rubber-dome (membrane) keyboards confuse you in this day and age:
Membrane keyboards are not bad, they are just meant for specific environments. Not everyone needs to know every clackity-clack of your key-presses.
Where silence is golden (coffee shops, libraries, call centers, offices, reception areas, etc), membrane keyboards will always be necessary.
I'm personally VERY glad Razer could come up with a design for membranes that have a decent response to allow for expanded usage for the casual gamer.

I was a person who wanted to get into the gaming peripherals, I started with the Logitech G105, which was a rubber dome switch.... I absolutely loved it, so much so that I recently picked up another one! I now have 7 different gaming keyboards from different eras and I have two more on the way! My absolute favorite is definitely the Razer Lycosa! I tried it at my friend's house and the rubber coated keys are unique!

I hate how nobody is able to get over the stigma against membrane switches. Yes, I understand that many people, the majority of people in fact, prefer the tactile feedback that a mechanical keyboard gives you. However, choosing a keyboard is ALL about personal preference. You can say that a certain switch will have better gaming performance or a nicer typing experience, but that is still dependent on the person and their style. I personally prefer the feel of membrane or mecha-membrane switches. Does it effect my typing or gaming? No. Does it mean that I am "not experienced with keyboards" or "have not used a mechanical keyboard in the past" as randomfrankp is suggesting? No. I have used several keyboards including regular mechanical keyboards from brands such as Razer and Corsair. I can see why people like them. Doesn't change the fact that I still prefer my Razer Deathstalker that I've been using for several years without issue. I am thrilled that Razer and some other big brands are finally coming out with more premium keyboards for this market. I've waited so long for something that I can upgrade to, so keyboards like the Cynosa and the Ornata are a perfect for me.

FYI... the Azio MKG-1 is the same price as this, it is mechanical (not cherry, but this shouldn't matter much), it is RGB, and is made of brushed aluminum vs this KB's plastic build.
Why do I say it doesn't matter if it's Cherry? Because I have a couple Corsair (K70, K65, K70 RGB) keyboards with Cherry Blue, Brown and Red switches, I've tried 3 other keyboards that use non-Cherry Blue, Black and Red switches. Those "Chinese" or whatever you wanna call them, keyboards (E-Element, Azio, Ajazz) feel almost exactly the same!!!
In my personal experience, once you try mechanical switches, you just cannot go back to rubber-dome membrane switches. The difference in typing feel is night and day!

Mech vs. Membrane is subjective.... "20% of people don't care" is a silly unfounded statement. I've tried mech keyboards with Blues, Browns, Reds & even blacks..... although I personally feel more comfortable with linear keys, membrane keyboards always feel better for my aggressive and forceful game play, I also appreciate the noise level to minimum when gaming away late at night. For gaming, my response and performance has not been impacted by changing keyboards around but typing however is a different story.

Honestly... if your gaming online, no matter how fast your key-press gets to your CPU, it's always going to be bottle-necked by your connection to the servers.
Aside from that, the responsiveness of keys is (as T W E R K indicated) a personal preference. I personally don't like click or tactile response... so I went with the Black Widow v2 with yellow switches. They have a shallow response time with smooth travel... this feels very nice when gaming, though it doesn't help land the kill-shots quicker in MMO-PVP games.
Hope that helps. As far as I seen from other users of the Cynosa, they've said it does very well at gaming, so if noise is an issue, this could be a good solution.
