  • For this year's Makers Challenge I am stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something completely new in a way. Some of you know I like wire wrapping pendants. Today we take two minerals to combine together and make one or several beautiful pendants. I will say this was a trial-and-error situation in the beginning. As the video continues you will see multiple attempts of seeing what hoped to make and hear the process. I hope you enjoy.
    Later this week I will have these posted on my Facebook page available for sell.
    Make sure to check out all the other channels for Makers Challenge 5.

    Thank you for being part of the Maker’s Challenge. To tackle something out of your comfort zone, good on you. I have always been fascinated by Bismuth; its peacock colours, the crystal formations but the fact that it can go from a whiteish solid, to a heated liquid and then , to a solid with beautiful crystals seems magical to me. Well done on preserving to find the best way to create a pendant. I agree that silver wire would look amazing and I look forward to seeing more videos of you perfecting this form of lapidary pendant making. Well done Kurt.

    I did. It was a bit easier using a bigger container to just toss in how much you need and melt it all together. I still have a bunch of it that I didn’t use. You can also pour it melted in a deeper tablespoon type container and the crystals grew in a half globe like building blocks. Looked like a cross section of the Death Star 😂. It’s fun to play in.

      So know I know 😁.
      I have a lot of different designs I’m going to be trying over the next few weeks.

    WARNING…Use gloves and apron when working hot BI. Account for spilling, splashing that can cause bad burns.
    Also when merging different elements/alloys know what you might get after they merge.

    What would happen if you melted it in a container with a flat side and then placed your pendant to the side. Would the crystals only form on one side?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  3 місяці тому

      In believe they would only form on one side. For both sides you’d have to dip the flat side in the bismuth to form on the other side .
