08:10 is a travel according to FIBA rules article 25 travelling:” If the player who comes to a stop on his/her first step has both feet on the court or they touch the court simultaneously, he/she may pivot using either foot as his/her pivot foot. If he/she then jumps with both feet, no foot may return to the court before the ball is released from the hand(s)”
@@danieljoris5720 1. If you're talking about lifting pivots, the rule you quoted isn't related to what you're saying 2. Lifting pivots have never been a travel, in any league
Correct me if I'm wrong but at 6:17 she didn't gather the ball. Her hand is on top of the ball meaning she could still put the ball on the floor and continue driving to the basket. Then you can see at 6:20 she has her hand under the ball which is a gather, meaning she cannot put the ball on the floor again. So the gather step would be at 6:20 no at 6:17. Am I right?
6:29 - Only 3 steps. She hasn't gathered the ball yet when she stepped that first left foot 7:29 - Hasn't gathered before that first right foot landed, so step 0 is that right foot 9:08 - Already gathered the ball before that left foot landed, so step 1 is that left foot 9:3210:11 - Cant dribble after taking your 2nd step 11:11 - ball hasn't been gathered yet before the same foot landed so that rule doesn't apply
6:06 I hope we can agree that she has her hand *under* the ball, so her Left foot becomes her gather step. Shen then does: Right foot jump, and lands on Left+Right feet (still legal). She can now either: jump, or take a jump step with her Right foot (releasing her Left foot), but then she has to release the ball before coming down on any foot. Instead, she takes a step with her Right foot (legal), but then lifts and touches the floor again with her Left foot - and that's when it becomes a travel. Correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm always looking to learn.
@@cryptopatrick Wait wdym "she takes a step with her right foot"? But she didn't take any with her right foot? And if she did that would still be a 3 step travel here's what she did: left foot -> spin -> gathers ball (hand under) -> right foot (step 1) -> jump -> both feet (step 2) -> left foot (step 3)
Having watched the video again I agree with you that there are what seem to be multiple errors in the video. For example, like stated, at 9:08 the player clearly has control of the ball on her Right foot, so Right is step 0, and she then plants her Left foot which becomes step 1 (which the commentator labeled as step 0). Thanks for making these valuable corrections!
9:32 @wat So is she essentially doing a gather on Left (0), Right (1), and Left (2) - meaning once her feet leaves the floor she cannot retain possession? Thanks for any insights on this.
This video is great reference material for anyone wanting to understand the new interpretation of the travel rule. But, if I'm honest, I hate that FIBA is falling in line with the NBA and looking to make it easier for players who aren't able to learn to develop proper footwork. I've found a lot of younger players are using Zero Step as an excuse for not knowing how to execute good footwork. I'm sure better players will learn to take full advantage of the new interpretations... and, I suppose the important thing is that we're all playing by the same rules.... Even so, BOOOOOOOOOO!
10:20 Before she starts to dribble, she takes 2 steps using her first step as pivot foot. I am confused with the FIBA rule "Pivot" and " a player shall release the ball to start his dribble before his second step. " Please help me to clear up my doubt, thank you.
you don't have to think about pivots when the player is moving if she dribbles before the 2nd step --> legal if she dribbles after the 2nd step --> travel
This video pretty much sets the gold standard on how to explain travel in basketball.
video is wrong in some cases and some explanation are unnecessary long

did "she then jump with both feet"?
@@wat4504 not she didn’t and that’s why it is travelling. She lifted her pivot foot to go on and jump off the non pivot foot.

i think 2nd step occur after 1step has been lifted. some example meaning 2nd step doesn't correct
some 2nd step is just pivot

you don't have to think about pivots when the player is moving
if she dribbles before the 2nd step --> legal
if she dribbles after the 2nd step --> travel
3rd step ayaw kong ganyan, coz you are already changing your pivot foot...
