After Wutang's Enter The 36 Chambers was mixed and mastered, Dave Darr ran the album through an Akai 4000 DB 7ips/ using 3.5 ips eq. Rza wanted the home made vibe.
hi them R8 decks are bad news i have 6 with bad caps and parts are all ways coming of them i will say love the akai decks they are tanks i still have 12 some where all working i went over two 1/2 tapes like the teac 80-8 soundcraft 381-8 great mixer you have easy to fix up and work on i love gear i can fix up and find it easy to get at
Dope.. After watching this vid we've just copped a mkii that popped up on FB marketplace for our music based mental health charity.. Watching this post convinced us we had to! Haha.. Love the channel.. BIG ups from Liverpool ✌🏼👊🏼
Yoo! When shaping drums its all about taste. On my fostex r8 i dont need to eq because the sound is real good. On my akai i do i sometimes because there is old tape on it 😆 cheers!
@@TommyVamoz my friend, 🙏!! I am using an old uher tapemachine from my dad which i had repaired and an old tapedeck. Booth steal the recordin the highs and mids but i love the sound which comes with the tape, i always use them to record on the final live mixdown from my 16 channel desk. For that i am pushin the highs and mids a bit to get a proper recordnin on the tape. I am in love with the tapecompression and the glue effect it brings!
@@TommyVamoz Gain full on. Output into it like its possible is... gain down just before a peak but... faders at +10db... and stereo sum preamp at +26dB.. now you produce that and not damage. This bullshytting about crushing and so on... its fake. The last peak of signal chain gets the all done freq back.. harmonics too.
guy thanks for the review: I’m a young sound engineer who would like to try the reel to reel, do you think a 4000ds MKII can make master tape of a correct quality? Should I go with an "X GLASS " ( GX ) model? The GX seem to be better but Im a newbie , please can you help me if you know something? Any help will be appreciate ! Thank you
Hey! The 4000ds is more a hifi machine that works wel for shaping sounds. But i dont think it will work to run mixes on and get a high quality tape sound. Better go in a higher segment of recorders like the gx or higher like telefunken, revox, studer etc. Peace!
@@TommyVamoz Thank you for the answer but I'm sorry to disagree with you since I heard this !!! : ua-cam.com/video/5kQt_WFdlvQ/v-deo.html it's clearly magical ! I aint need no more ! It works so good for adding dust and a lil harmonic distortion that give this beautifull color to the sound, for the cheap price they can be found I think it's so cool man ! I'm going with 4000 sd mk2; because I think there is no better option on a tiny budjet IMHO

This thing is very decent edspecially for it's price ! IMHO just for add some dust and typical tape distortion to à whole mix it's very cool for the price ! :O

Love it. Push the eq also while tracking. Nice video 🔥✌🏽🇩🇴
Thanks for watching and keep pushing the eq! 🙌🏽🎛👌🏽
can you explain how i would do this with a interface and not a mixing console
Depends on what interface you have
Why do you do gain staging inversely? All the harmonics go hell
Its a way to shape or colour the drums. If you dont like it, dont do it 😉
