Finally Louis gets the respect and recognition he deserves. He did write most of the one direction songs and his songs are more than just about sex and money. Louis said he wants to be remembered as a lyricist most of all. While he draws from his own experiences his songs and words are meant to be relatable to the listener. His sound, lyrics, and emotive vocals are so moving and helps connect you personally to a piece of his work. Do you guys wonder if this song has more to do with his journey with one direction then a relationship. Like it’s about the struggles he inevitably had to face when they went their separate ways. Like he’s never felt more alone until he realized every one has gone in their own direction and he struggled to find his. But through the challenges he’s faced he finally understands the man he is now. What he wants to do and what he wants others to see him as. And no matter how bitter it was to leave he thanks it cuz it gave him a place to stand on his own. Make a name for himself.

I don´t think you realised that you stopped the music video on a real important visual meaning. Louis walked to a stage where there were four other people (with similar silhouettes to the 1d memebers') and the one on the right (Zayn) just faded away with the smoke.

This song is also like a tribute to OASIS. There are a couple of chords that are directly taken from an OASIS song (which one I don’t know) and the label was worried it would cause trouble so they suggested they would contact Noel G about it. Louis said there was NO chance. But they asked for permission to use the chords and Louis was soooo surprised Noel gave his ok. That’s why Noel has a writing credit on the song. I am not sure but I think OASIS also have a chair on a Wall in one of their MV. Louis loves OASIS so Yeah. 😊

Thank you so much for reacting to this! But I need to say, that I understood the Lyrics diffrently. "Nothing wakes you up, like waking up alone" was for me about a break up, sad, regretful. "The day you walked away and took the higher ground, was the day that I became the man that I am now" was for me, that this break up changed him completly, not, that he became a full man because of it. But it is really interesting to see other opinions! Thank you for it! :)
I think it revolves a bit around how he never wanted to go on break when he was in 1D 'cause he was not really confident about himself. He also told once how he had decided to not pursue his solo career till the reunion. But look at him now. He's lot more confident and better singer and lyricist than he was 5 yrs ago. And I think that's why he was saying bittersweet thanku 'cause though the split of 1D hard for him, he discovered a new and better side of him which maybe would not have happened if he was still in the band.

I think the lyrics of this song speaks more of his feelings upon d passing of his mother.the death of his mother gives him a tremendous feeling of being alone cause his mother is his best friend,mentor nd confidant as he is a mama's boy.looking his reflection at d mirror he knows that at first he was lost because he was very hurt and no amount of words could ever be enough.but then he thank her for raising him to be a man of strength. that is what he is now,hence.his burden,walls or sufferings just came falling down because of that strength .That he was thanking his mother for raising him to be a good man unfortunately she is now in a higher ground in heaven so the thank you become a bittersweet .so he is just hoping that someday if she would see him,she would say I am proud of you cause you are strong.but as of now from time to time he still feel alone waking up because he miss his great mentor and confidant.that is his Mother. The whole album Walls is very well written, played and well cared for ... The mistake has always been made that only those who take the high notes can sing ... it is not so! ... and his voice is very particular, it transmits a lot and reminds me of Noell Gallagher or Anthony Kiedis (RHCP).

I think it is partially about one direction but I think it’s about other things too. The lyrics don’t make sense to just be about the band.

I think the lyrics of this song speaks more of his feelings upon d passing of his mother.the death of his mother gives him a tremendous feeling of being alone cause his mother is his best friend,mentor nd confidant as he is a mama's boy.looking his reflection at d mirror he knows that at first he was lost because he was very hurt and no amount of words could ever be enough.but then he thank her for raising him to be a man of strength. that is what he is now,hence.his burden,walls or sufferings just came falling down because of that strength .That he was thanking his mother for raising him to be a good man unfortunately she is now in a higher ground in heaven so the thank you become a bittersweet .so he is just hoping that someday if she would see him,she would say I am proud of you cause you are strong.but as of now from time to time he still feel alone waking up because he miss his great mentor and confidant.that is his Mother. This is just how I understand the lyrics of his song walls.though of course it could be interpreted in so many ways.I just love this song.very emotional

I don't think you caught it, but in the video when Louis is walking up to the rest of the group, there are 4 other people standing there. When Louis walks up, one of the guys vanishes, which symbolizes Zayn leaving the band. Louis had a really hard time with it. @5:56
The whole album Walls is very well written, played and well cared for ... The mistake has always been made that only those who take the high notes can sing ... it is not so! ... and his voice is very particular, it transmits a lot and reminds me of Noell Gallagher or Anthony Kiedis (RHCP).
