    Very good presentation of a beautifully restored example. You are the first owner/user I have seen on UA-cam who actually knows how the transfer-box levers work. I think though that you have to explain to the uninitiated that both the Overdrive unit and the Free-wheeling-hubs are aftermarket and not standard equipment. Last comment is I believe a bonnet meant to take the spare wheel is slightly dished so that the wheel mounts a little lower to less obstruct a (short) driver's view. Yours looks like a standard bonnet.

    Wow, so that's all things I should know about series Land Rover, and You've explained it in crystal clear. I used to come along when My father drove My grandfather's 109" 1960 series II, it's when I was 2 until 8 years old. Last but not least, superb restoration You made in this series Land Rover, it's absolutely amazing. Well Done....

    Thank you so much for unlocking memories of the Series IIA, my father bought one new in 1963 and we used it as our only family vehicle for a few years and sadly it was sold in 1986, which I had kept it but I was away at the time. The differences were that the hot air supply to the windshield was via some tapered nozzles not the boxy ones you have, and it had no overdrive ("Fairey?") and the heater was a round shaped radiator with a couple of small doors on the front which could be opened. But all the functionality of the wiper moters, the ignition, and the four wheel driver system are all still in my head although not referenced for many years. I think I need to get one!

    Interesting that US Land Rovers have both window glasses slide, in Australia, only the rear pane slid. The covers over the chains to the tailgate were an anti rattle measure. Owned many Land rovers over the years.

    Just an observation, if you are coming up to a red traffic light or a stop sign. It is bad practice to change down through the gears, you should use your brakes, as it is cheaper to replace brake linings than transmissions. As you are putting unnecessary strain on the gearbox.

    such a nice piece of automotive legend... I owned a 1963 109 Series IIA, and as most british cars it was not very reliable and had many odd and bad features but at the same time lots and lots of charm! I love Landies, too bad they ruined this brand with the new "Pretender"... we were hoping for a working tool and they produced an overpriced Discovery 2.0! (complicate electronics for your saturday safari to the shopping mall) Too bad! for me it is definitively over with Land Rover, now I moved to Toyota (Series 70)!!! But if I would have some extra dimes in the pocket I would surely also buy a Landie Series I or IIA! just for the fun

    Wonderful looking and sounding truck. Thanks for posting this video for us "Newbie's" to the world of Rovers. If you were driving down a steep hill, how would you use the gearing to control speed? Can a Rover engine take the stress a couple mile descent?

    • @millomweb
      @millomweb 4 роки тому

    • @Tubecraft1
      @Tubecraft1 Рік тому

      they can take serious work but not abuse don't let it over rev down hill . I f you use low box for descents it is more than capable of controlled decent even being pushed by a loaded trailer. the limitation of the series land rovers was the rover axle with its susceptible Half shafts that again are very capable but not tolerant of fools driving them jerkily as they will break in the diff, that said I have regularly towed 7000 lb trailers with mine over many years and NEVER broken a shaft. so its all in the technique

    the overdrive and bigger tyres make all the difference to any sort of speed over 50mph.i see its not a fairly one? romer?nice n quiet .Weber carb makes a difference to, speed and mpg. tho the original solex pa 40 was good for low speed and smooth tick over , but the weber is a good modern upgrade.
    a well set up 4 cly engine should give reasonable performance ,but no way near big modern turbo diesels,, but who want one of them!!

    • @mikesandone2652
      @mikesandone2652 4 роки тому +4

      I don't recommend starting in 2nd with oversized tires. I do 100 test drive miles on every Series we build which includes bringing it up to 70mph on I-95 but yes, 50 is a nice speed. I find the opposite to be true, they have a low center on gravity and really shine on twisty back roads.
