Flight Test for Smithers Method April 2024

We test camera settings for the new Smithers Method, a way to add high-resolution photos along with flight crew comments to helicopter surveys of mountain goats in north central British Columbia, Canada. We are using a GFX 100s medium format camera with a 45 mm lens that combines wide field of view with high resolution. Each photo is 102 mb. In an actual survey, the entire flight would be recorded using a GoPro camera in the nose of the helicopter with audio captured from the helicopter audio system. The still photos are geo-referenced and can be shown in the video where they were taken as you will see in this sample.
