PERFECT/HORRENDOUS place to pause! 10:00
wAIT. WAIT, I NEVER REALIZED THAT "WHEN DOES A MAN BECOME A MONSTER" HAD A DOUBLE MEANING BEFORE...! I clocked that Odysseus was talking about himself killing the child, but it didn't occur to me that it could ALSO be referring to the child himself growing up to be vengeful! YOOOOOO THAT'S A WHOLE NEW LAYER UNLOCKED
😁 I’m so glad I could give you that extra bit of appreciation there! Thank you for your comment!
me too! I had never thought of this other interpretation
I KNOW RIGHT?! But also I love the fact that in the animatic it's juxtaposed with the olive tree sprouting from the kid. The full understanding of both of them as both whole and worthy lives, and monsters, both simultaneously, neither more nor less worthy. Odysseus isn't justifying what he's doing, nor is he defending the kid who will grow up to be a monster, they're both humans, they're both monsters, Ody is just the one with the power right now, that's all.
I only ever thought about the child being a monster, didn’t even think about Odysseys himself. It adds so much more meaning to it
I know, especially because of the song "Monster" and the lyrics in it
The thing that really breaks my heart about this animation - and really drives home Odysseus' change of thought concerning Hector's son - is that when he's talking about how much the infant reminds him of his son, Odysseus is holding him in his arms and has him pressed against his chest. When Odysseus steels himself to kill the infant, he picks him up by the blanket and holds him as far away from himself as possible, like he can't even allow himself to give comfort in the infant's final moments, or he won't be able to do it.
Omg, yes. For me, it's how Gigi has Odysseus put his hand to his mouth and literally step away from the cradle when Zeus and his ensemble says, "if you don't end him now, you'll have no one else to save."
Odysseus, a seasoned warrior at war and in the process of sacking the city, is -horrified- at the suggestion.
@@AnonEMouse-ls7fpYesss!!!
Oh, it's *so* good!!
Not to mention just before that he is shown putting on his helmet, which he took off the moment he saw that his opponent was an infant. The animation seems to make out as if it would be easier to rationalize his actions if he is just a soldier. A soldier doing what he can to make sure he gets home safely to his wife and kid.
And as he says, he would trade the world.
Nah that baby is so unbelievably dead, 12 feet under, splatted like a melon, deader than Adam, I could not imagine something that is as dead as that baby
Oh my word 😭
Your comment made me laugh 😂
Now I *need* to imagine something deader than “that baby” 😂
I'm no Polites but I think getting crushed by a giant club can rival falling from a wall
Literally all but 43 if Odysseus’ crew after Polyphemus and Poseidon: *allow us to introduce ourselves*
Neo is referring to Neoptolemus, also called Pyrrus. He's Achilles's son. His name is where we get the term pyrric victory.
Small correction: the term Pyrrhic victory (a victory that feels like a defeat due to the victorious side sustaining unacceptably high losses) comes from Pyrrhus of Epirus, who lost so many troops when he defeated the Romans in battle in 280-279 BCE that he reportedly said “If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined.” (Plutarch, “The Life of Pyrrhus”) It is possible that that Pyrrhus was named after Neoptolemus, though, since naming your kids after mythological figures was pretty common. Either that or he had red hair.
@@raegancollins1451 I think it's funny how your answer is basically "yes, but actually no" meme
In the odyssey, Odysseus does kill the baby by throwing him off the castle walls, in an act that's cements the beginning of his loss of humanity. While not shown in the song or animatic, he does kill the infant, so take that knowledge and watch the song again and it becomes so much more and I almost cried the first time I heard it after knowing that.
Odysseus killing the baby is not shown in the actual Odyssey! We actually get that information from Euripides play "The trojan women". But anyhow it's so sad 😭
@@_hxlxnn From what I found, it's unclear whether it was him or Neoptolemus that murders Astyanax in Homer's _The Odyssey._
Yes. Odysseus kills Astyanax. Astyanax, the baby, was was thrown from the battlements of Troy by Odysseus. Plunging to his death. In another story Neoptolemus (Neo in the song), Achilles's son, was the one to do it. But the most agreed version of the story was that Astyanax was killed at the hands of Odysseus by the command of the gods.
You can see at the end of the animanic "Just a Man" that a woman was restrained from running towards Odysseus as he gets ready to drop Astyanax. That's Andromache, Astyanax's mother. In the story, Astyanax is dropped and killed right in front of her as she tries to save him but is held back from doing so. 😢
*Edit. I should calrify, It's been a while since I read the Iliad. I don't fully remember if Princess Andromache watching her son's death was in the original tale or if it was added later on. What I do know is that there are a lot of beautiful but heartbreaking painting depicting soldiers ripping Astyanax from her arms and other paintings depicting Andromache trying to reach Astyanax befor he hit the growned put being restrained from doing so.
In some of the versions where Neo does the killing, he uses Astyanax's corpse as a club to beat his grandfather King Priam to death, I believe while he was right about to get sanctuary in a temple. Talk about brutal
Are you talking about wolfy's version of just a man van I can't find that scene in gigi's
Pretty sure they're talking about different versions of the story from Greek mythology. There isn't ONE account of the events of the Trojan War, and the details differ a lot from one version to the next.
@kathrynhunt6883 oh I thought they were talking about the animatics since they mentioned them.
@@EG-hy9mv Oh yes. I remeber that. I can't beleive I forgot that part. Damn. That is brutal.
The Animatics are not cannon but majority of them are almost exactly what’s happening in the story so they might as well be. He does indeed drop the baby in the Odyssey from the tower.
Jorge had a few commissioned, like Done For, that incorporate what he imagined happening on screen during the song. All the animatics are so good, there are so many talented artists
some fun little symbolism about odysseus putting on his helmet! it's said that hector, the kid's dad, held him with his helmet on. The baby got scared, though, and started crying. Hector laughed and took off his helmet, at which point the baby stopped crying, recognising him as his dad. So, in this video, the moment that Odysseus puts his helmet on can be said to be the moment he decides to kill the baby ---> aka the moment odysseus stopped being a 'man' or 'dad' in the baby's eyes, but a 'monter'
Yeah, especially cause He First faces the Kid without His helmet, basically inverting hectors action
oh
Oh
oh. no.
Fun fact! The voices in the backround when oddyseus sings is meant to be his men, his soldiers. The only time its not the men, is if its a god (they give themselves backround vocals because theyre...theyre something in this musical to say the least XD)
The falsetto sent you to the heavens? It also sent the baby there too. 😅
Hey man 🥺😆
Nope, the ancient greeks believed und an underworld, unless you becomes a good Like heracles, you will Not Rise into the heavens
I'm so happy you're reacting to Epic!! To answer a couple of your questions: yes, Jorge is singing the part of Odysseus. The bulk of the "official Epic canon" is just the music, but there are a few official animatic snippets made as collaborations between Jorge and various animatic artists which were used as promos for the Ocean and Circe sagas (I don't think there were any official ones for the Troy or Cyclops sagas, but I might be forgetting). Jorge also has a lot of content on youtube and elsewhere where he talks about the musical behind the scenes/instrumental motifs/etc, and also sometimes gives additional information about what is happening in a scene which isn't already explicit from the music. So while the fan animatics are mostly working from just whatever is in the music, they sometimes also draw on extra info Jorge might have mentioned about "canon" stage directions or setting. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions!
Thank you for your input!!
I'm so glad that THAT segment of Just a Man winning people over is such a universal experience in this fandom. I first heard it in a gods damn Adventure Time AMV, that wasn't even the main part of the video it was in. That's so ridiculous and silly to me.
I first heard it in an Avatar:the last airbender AMV so same.
I think I first saw Epic in a Owl House edit on TikTok and it was the same part
@@elizabethgatchell4546I also followed that song from an ATLA AMV!
i heard it in a baldur’s gate 3 edit which fit the characters SO well, and i was so blown away by the song. immediately fell into the epic the musical pipeline lmao
I got into this with a snippet of ‘done for’
A little something goin foward: Jorge likes to bring back certain melodies as the songs go on. For example, you'd hear the melody of Penelope (7:33) which is played by a viola, whenever Oddyseous talks about her. So keep some melodies and lyrics in mind as they will be brought back goin foward.
Since i mentioned the Viola as importand, you might also know that Jorge gives each characters an instrument to represent them. For Oddyseous is a Nylon guitar when he's vulnerable, and an Electric guitar when he's being strategic/ruthless. Or others like Athena and Poseidon, who are represented by a Piano amd Brass instruments respectevly
The term is leitmotif!
@@unclewiley1986 I know
He actually just highlighted another motif he introduced in The Horse and the Infant before the vision of adult Astanyax with the Viola being the "Danger is Coming" motif, which he has said he's hidden in other places throughout the soundtrack.
@@TheSaharay1 Yeah i just saw, i noticed it at the start of Polyphemous, but don't know where else
@@Fruity_one it's at the start of Ruthlessness too
ahhhhh I hadn't even noticed before but in "Just A Man" the animator included the BED. The bed with the living tree trunk Odysseus incorporated into it. Cool!!
In the Story IT IS Not AS obvious though, that ITs a tree If I Recall IT right
In the poem the fact that it's rooted to the ground in the bedroom - that he actually built the bedroom around it - is how Penelope knows it's him. She tells him that she'll have the bed pulled out into the courtyard for him to sleep in and he gets angry asking "who cut through the post so the bad can be moved? I built it without cutting through the trunk so no one should be able to move the bed," and since that's something only she and he would know she can confirm it's really him. But yeah, I think in the poem it looks like any other bedpost - he took off the branches so no one else knows it's a tree.
@@kathrynhunt6883if I’m not mistaken he doesn’t get angry. He shows up disguised because of Athena, Penelope doesn’t recognize him and after him answering all her questions she says that his final task for him to prove he is Odysseus is to move their bed into the courtyard so they could sleep together, Odysseus started weeping asking how could she ask such a thing of him because their bedroom is incorporated into an olive tree so what she is asking is an impossible task, she then knows that’s something only Odysseus himself and she would know.
The background ensemble when none of the characters are singing are the gods. So in when you hear the background vocals in Just A Man at 22:35 that is Zeus repeating those things to Odysseus to convince him that he needs to do this. A lot of songs involving gods do this btw. It's really worth it to keep track of when this is being done, knowing that it's their choice to add ensemble vocals can give a lot of insight into their character and motivation!
So that was Zeus? I was wondering for a long while who the backing vocals were since it seemed like Zeus left
I always thought it was meant to be the onlooking warriors as it is cannon that Odysseus kills the child in a very public fashion.
@@hburton7176from what I understand stand the Ensemble is both. The gods have an electronic component because it’s something that was impossible to be made in the time period of the odyssey.
EPIC is a whole masterpiece! Jorge is a musical genius. There are so many intricate details throughout all the sagas. Certain instruments belong to each character, motifs are woven into songs as callbacks, even the way certain notes are sung subtly tell the story. The Troy and Cyclops sagas are still my favorites so far.
Yes, Jorge sings the main role of Odysseus.
"This is the will of the gods." Zeus knows damn well that's a lie. He knows the Trojan War had Olympus near civil war, with some wanting Troy to win, and others wanting Ithaca to win. He just wants a mortal to tie up a loose end instead of using his influence as THE KING OF THE GODS to keep the others in line.
Man, he needs someone to keep HIM in line.
@@TailsFan I'm a Hellenic Pagan. This shit is my religion. Hera usually keeps him in line as much as anyone can. Zeus is gonna do what Zeus is gonna do.
@@disableddragonborn Dude needs a chastity belt and a leash.
I mean the thing Zeus 'foreshadowed' kind of resolves in Just a man, but I still think you're correct on the Foreshadowing part in a broader sense if that makes sense. Without wanting to spoil anything, I think Zeus' words still matter for the later sagas and foreshadow them in a way.
Yes, Odysseus yeeted a child of a wall.
Wolfythewitch has this tiny clip of Just A Man that ends with a full send *YEET!!!* and it freaking slays me every single time.
@@sylvirgiomanach1491 yeah it slayed the baby too
22:03 "WHO?" The continuation of the Owldyssey🦉
I paused at this to check the comments. Was not disappointed
Nice! ❤️😁
Check out the owldysse by Gwendy NS2D (to all those who doesn't know yet)
Yeah he did. In the song that Odysseus goes into the underworld he states that the infant's death still haunts him.
IT better does!!!
YESSS. Please delve into this. Jorge is amazing and the way he's structured this is genius. Please watch some of his content and clips as well!
Edit: Yes, he did drop the baby. The song cuts off and the baby drops. The animatic just chose to fade to black.
I believe Neoptolemus (Neo) is the son of Achilles, so in the line, "neo avenge your father kill the brothers of hector" he is avenging Achilles who was killed earlier in the Trojan war.
Correct!
Spot on!
When the chorus vocals come in we see Odysseus carrying the baby out of the house, back into the battleground where the rest of the Greeks are fighting. Effectively we're rejoining the battle and they get a voice too. Obviously the song is focused on Odysseus and his personal question of "when does a man become a monster?" But I always see this moment as a focus shift from just him asking, to all of the Greeks asking that question as they are destroying the people of Troy.
Really funny Easter egg that Gigi put into this animatic, when Odysseus is thinking back to his time with Penelope at 18:59, we see them sleeping in a bed carved out of living trees. This was an actual thing in The Odyssey, and when Penelope and Odysseus reunite, she tests him by saying she moved their wedding bed, and when he gets visibly upset and confused (because how do you move a bed carved into a whole ass tree) she knows it’s really him.
Idk if you've looked it up yourself Mortius but here is some stuff about greek shtuff.
Ok, so "Neo, avenge your father, kill the brothers of Hector" Neoptolemus, originally called Pyrrhus at birth, was the son of the warrior Achilles and Princess Deidamia and the brother of Oneiros
"Suddenly Zeus" could be the one-line plot of 60% of greek myths. 😂
The ensemble can either be specifically named like "Soldiers" and other times, it's just ensemble, without any actual characters being the voice. "Ruthlessness" has the darkest example of that. It's not Odysseus's dead crew coming back to ponder when a man becomes a monster, it's Poseidon fucking with Odysseus after traumatizing him by killing his men in front of him, and further traumatizing him by using their voices.
"It has to be a demi god or someone like that right"...oh man he's not ready. Yeah he totally does it. He kills the baby in the Odyssey, or the end of the Iliad I can't remember but it happens.
7:02 "That's just tickling the back of my brain" Im gonna add that to my everyday use, for I'm struggling to find something deep down my useless brain so often. And this is a funny way to phrase that haha
Your enthusiasm and genuine commentary with interesting insights is really refreshing to see :)
Also, I totally get having to read the lyrics, I too have been cursed with auditory processing issues and the fact that you cared enough to actually pull up the lyrics and understand the story means a lot! I look forward to your other reactions and imma go check out the rest of your channel :D
Thank you so much! Welcome to the team!!
I am also in the camp of please give me lyrics 🩵
In another (unreleased) song he says "and if I gotta drop another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don't die". That means he did kill the son of Hector
Good thing it's released
In one of the animatics for just a man, when Odysseus holds the lil baby over the wall, you actually see a moment of two of Odysseus's men leading a woman away who we are suppose to see as the boy's mother (Andromache) who turns around and when seeing what is about to happen actually tries to break away from the soldiers to try and go after her baby, but isn't able to break away and you just see her hang her head down seemingly crying, which makes you process that while yes this boy's father caused so much problems and was killed, and the boy was said to be destined to be a strong scary soldier if he survived, the idea that his mother could have still been there alive and could have either seen or learn of her infant's fate kinda hurts
I love this is getting more attention and you start at the start, best songs! 👏
7:10 Achilles's son's full name is Neoptolemus :D
I hope you do more Epic musical videos~ Wolfy the witch's "just a man" animation still makes me cry...
Ruthlessness and Just a Man are both in my top 5 songs from this project. This whole project is amazing though.
Neoptolemus, in Greek legend, is the son of Achilles, the hero of the Greek army at Troy
Also im pretty sure the whole story is because he KILLED the baby, the whole thing is his bad karma
Would make IT deserved, ITS usually Always trying to prevent a Bad Future, that has the "Heros" pay terribly . . .cause the fear leads them to infact atrocities
So for a little bit of musical context Jay has talked about from his tiktoks and youtube shorts:
(Ill skip down a little incase its something you wanna watch and not be spoiled on)
There are many a motif and leifmotif in Epic not only describing the characters, but also the actions of said characters.
For instance, Odysseus is characterized by a guitar. If he is being cunning and strategic, t's accompanied by an electric guitar when he sings (Very present in Horse & The Infant)
Meanwhile when there is more emotional moments and one's of contemplation by him there is a Nylon String Guitar (Very present in Just a Man).
The gods are very much characterized by synth and electronic sounding music which will become more apparent later in the Circe Saga
There are many other motifs, but as of writing these are the only songs you have reacted to and I don't wanna spoil too much. However there are so many fun musical bits and elements to pick up to those who are listening for it no matter how subtle.
Athena is characterized by piano and clock ticks. And when she is ruthless in her mindset her music is faster.
Thank you for reacting to this-it's finally gotten me to actually listen to this project! (It's been floating around me 'this is something I know I will like, I should totally check it out...eventually' part of my brain pretty much since I heard about it...over a year ago?
I'm coming into it with no first-hand knowledge of the Odyssey, only through adaptations of parts, summaries, and cultural osmosis, though odd context for me for these first two songs (all I've listened two at the moment-listened to them first so I could watch your reaction, then will check out the rest) is the production of Trojan Women my college did my freshman year, meaning that I know enough about this particular moment to not only know what Odysseus chooses, but to about choke when I first hear the 'when does a comet become a meteor' line.
I guess I'm about to find out if the musical itself gives enough detail to make that line as obviously tragic/ironic as the 'man become a monster' line-but I guess you technically know before I do, since you've recorded the next few reactions, and I haven't heard the next songs yet...
Epic is SO GOOD 😭 So glad to see some more reactions and love to this project, thank you!!
YESS MORE PEOPLE ARE REACTING TO THIS IN WORK MASTER PIECE!! If you want to do them in order it’s Troy saga, Cyclops Saga, Ocean Saga, then the newest released saga Circe Saga! Also the creator is still working on this, there will be 40 songs in the entire musical and he wrote all of them! Also yes he did kill the child this will be a musical based the entire Odyssey (The story of Odysseus), the animations are not canon but some do go off of the odyssey specifically which is basically canon to the songs
Omg this was really fun to watch and see how you react to all the moments. Can't wait for the new upload of you reacting to Epic. Also for 24:10, Jay has scripts that he sometimes shows us on streams and stuff. These scripts have sometimes like a line or two to tell you what someone is doing at any part of the song(e.g. Odysseus sits near a campfire, Penelope weaves her shroud). This is more so that that the actors(when this gets brought to a stage) know what to do, where to be. But for now, animators use them for story-accurate animations. Jay also uploads snippets of unreleased songs on tiktok and instagram sometimes and he gives us the context of the situation(e.g. Odysseus and his men are trapped in Polyphemus' cave and are trying to find a way out). But there are some moments that are headcannon. I can't give you an example because it would be a spoiler but there definitely are some in the animatics I've watched
Edit: Also there are some trigger warnings that you need to know of: Violence, attempted r*pe, SA, de*th, g*re.
WAIT I FOUND SOMETHING
Ok when Zeus says “a foe who won’t run” I could mean ‘when he goes to kill you he won’t run away’ or It could mean ‘kill your enemy now he’s vulnerable and can’t run away’
I have audio prcessing issues too! Im still so mad UA-cam ruined their captioning system a few tears ago
THANK you, I’m so glad someone else knows the struggle
To me, the chants in the background are the, idk how to word this lol, but the judgement of the group? Like, if someone does something horrible, but no one knows and no one ever finds out, is he a monster? Is it not the act of witnessing something that makes it real (i think an english expression is 'if a tree falls in a forest does it make a sound', idk im not english haha). So like, it's the people, the world, his friends and comrades and enemies, all judging him and/or looking on as to what he is doing (to me)
So pumped to see your reaction to everything. I’ve been following Jay on TikTok since 2020, welcome to the Winion army, please enjoy your stay. I loved your reaction to just these two, and oh man, all of them are gonna be so good. I love hearing Athena’s clock ticking as The Horse And The Infant kicks off. Also also, that’s a guitar strumming, not a drum at the beginning, it symbolizes Odysseus using his cunning.
"When does a cabbage become a meteor?" 🤣
my brother in christ, the animatics are based on the actual odyssey and the musical, which is what the songs take from
We have the entirety of the cannon
Probably obvious to others but cool little musical detail: the strings in the back of the actual fighting scene is the same as the ones in Ruthlessness, when the soldiers yell "Captain!" AND!! Zeus's speech is reflected in the melody of Odysseus's verses in Survive. "That is who we're fighting (Polyphemus)" "I don't think you're ready/I know that I'm ready." ourghhh hyperfixation is REAL
JUST A MAN is something i sing DAILY! Its such a beautiful song and story
You can call Jorge "Mr Jalapeno". I love your reactions btw. Can't wait when you get to the newest saga
I think you’d be happy to look at my channel right about now then :)
I forgot about the Suddenly Zeus meme until this xD
Yes, de does yeet the child. Confims it later in "Monster" in the Underworld saga
another animatic about just a man that I feel adds to the narrative heart brake and just overall emotions is "Just a Man [ EPIC: The Musical | Animatic | Remake ]" by Wolfy the witch it actually goes into and shows the end and the descsion Odysseus makes
If you plan on doing reactions to animatics, I really recommend viewing mircsy for their animatics especially for the detail put into the drawings. ESPECIALLY for Warrior of the Mind and My Goodbye
@ 22:42 I believe the choice to have many voices in the background are to reflect the use of the Chorus in Greek theatre, who would act as a bride between the action and audience, by either elaborating on the story or amplify what was already taking place.
Him continually pausing right before it gets to the big reveal that Zeus is telling Odysseus to kill an infant hurt me 😂
Listen, 98% of the time I stand by the thoroughness at which I pause and analyze/discuss but every once in a while it does serve as a detriment 😆
Im so excited that youre finally reacting to this! Ive been following Jorge's progress for about 3 years now, and his passion is infectious. He goes into detail about behind the scenes stuff on a regular basis on his tiktok and youtube channels. I love the little things you pointed out, but i cant wait for when ypu progress further into the show and can look back and see all the flavor bits he added as early as his first song. There is so much nuance to every instrument choice, styling flair, and even vocal decision that once you see them for what they are they will blow your mind. I look forward to watching ypu fall in love with this musical like so many of us already have!
AAAAA I'm so happy you took to reacting to Epic!!!! Out of all the reactors out there, you're not only one of my absolute favourites, but also THE most fitting one for this series of songs, which this reaction has proven as it was just phenomenal! I've been following Jorge's work for years now, and the moment the Troy Saga dropped I already thought "Oh damn, it would be so fun if Mortius reacted to that one" so it's truly amazing that you decided to do so!
I look forward to you reacting to the rest of the sagas.
So do I! The rest of Troy Saga will be up next Wednesday, and I’ll try to get to the rest soon after 😁
Alright, 1. Thank you for introducing me to this, and 2. Curse you for making me have to decide whether to wait until the story is done and binge watch it alongside you or go watch the whole thing by myself now. 😅
really enjoyed this reaction bc we actually hear the whole song, and you speculating is cool btw bc its not frustrating as long as its sth you couldnt have known yet lol. cool vid!
"That falsetto just sent me to the heavens." as Odysseus sends an infant to the heavens.
😭
im only halfway through the video right now but im enjoying it so much, i immediatelly turned on the notifications👍🏻 i havent seen such an interesting reaction in a long time, im really enjoying it. so glad i found u :]
I think this is my fifth or sixth time now watching your (and Caspers) reactions to Epic! I’m so excited to see your reaction to The Underworld Saga!❤😁
22:48 the main character is Odysseus BTW it mentions his wife Penelope and son telemachus just an fyi.
Man, I appreciate your input as I'm learning these songs. You're spotting tidbits and then moving back a few seconds so I can hear it again the exact way I would, and it's amazing. ❤❤
Your video is soooo amaziiiing, make me want to rewatch everything again ❤
SO creative and interesting!! I am going to watch again.
Yes! So happy you’re reacting to Epic! I really like how you talk about the music and vocal details. Looking forward to the next one!
I loved your analysis of this!! ive been watching every reaction to epic I can find because its an amazing work of art, it got me starting to read the odyssey as well. not many reactors appreciate how *good* Jorges voice is, his falsettos and ability to switch to his head voice is impeccable, not to mention the creative genius it took to write and compose an entire musical himself. cant wait to see you react to the other songs!!
There's one animatic I think Jorge commissioned for circe saga, but yes the other animatics aren't canon.
So nice to see a reaction where you actually add something and somewhat analyze it🥰 Cant wait to see more from you!
Thank you so much! I love this kind of thing so I’m glad I was able to add my own insight to it in such a way :)
Now that Underworld Saga's release date has been announced, I'm rewatching these because I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU REACT TO EVERYTHING AND I'M IMPATIENT.
Sick love to see it, i love epic the musical everyone did a fantastic job with it, and im pretty excited to see more people react to it.
i loved that breakdown on the monster meaning, for some reason i didnt think of it
This is all around a great reaction. I love the song, too.
Mircsy also did an animatic of Just a Man which showed Odysseus throwing Astyanax (the baby) off the battlements.
I need this musical to be on broadway then tour 😅 i would buy everything for it
Having a marathon of the epic musical reaction, while I wait for the next react episode to come out!
Oh wait! I just realised, isn't the Hades (Underworld?) saga beeing released today! Then I know what to do after this marathon!❤❤
Your reaction had me smiling all the way through and really brightend up my day. Thank you. ❤
Wow! Thanks so much for saying that and for sending the Super Thanks, I’m truly thrilled I could improve your day like that :)
I know this is an older video, but I love the part where Odysseus is begging in Horse and the Infant to Zeus, and while Odysseus is frantically begging, Zeus stays in a steady pace, showing that the gods are setting the tone of this, not man.
I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU REACT TO THE REST, OH MY GOD I'M SO SO HYPED !!
Finally, a new person getting into Epic: the Musical! This is going to be an emotional journey for you! I've cried to so many of these songs because of just how much emotion they convey. All I'll say is make sure you follow a chronological list for the songs because there is a correct way to listen to them in order for the biggest impact and so that you don't miss any of the story.
From my memory, he does kill the kid, for anyone who wanted clarification
Definitely watch all of the songs in order. It’s so good.
Jay adds some off the most subtle and intrecate details when it comes to his songs such as certian genres and instruments belonging to different characters to represent them- HE COOKS THESE SONGS LIKE A GOD
*When you realize "A foe who won't run" fits because a baby can't run & should he be spared he'll become an AVENGER who won't run till the deed is done.*
what i would give to be able to experience listening to this musical for the first time a few months ago
Damn, really nice reaction. Can't wait for more - it is definitely a journey.
Love the reaction and how much you consider the music 💝
speculations is the fun part of reactions, no worries on that part haha
It's nice to see someone else who has to use subtitles to fully process things. I have brain damage, and that's one side effect I'm most insecure of.
You haven't read the Odyssey? Uh ohhhhh- ...I mean I can't wait for you to see the rest! :)
ITS one Thing to know the Story, and another to have read the whole poem
"It's going to be quite the journey going through it." Oh, you have no idea how true that is.
I feel like the line « when does a man becomes a monster » is also about where does the line stand between good and bad ? Because he’s doing it to save lives, he’s doing it for justice but it’s still so cruel and horrible to do and it’s still going to haunt him and affect him in a way that he’s going to regret this after the war when thinking of all the other options he could’ve taken rather than kill this child. Also the whole musical is about Odysseus learning to be more ruthless and less merciful with the world through all the losses and defeats he’s gonna face. So I think it really goes well with this.
I haven't read The Odyssey in a decade, so some of this stuff felt new to me. I'm also a Hellenic Pagan, so I really SHOULD know this stuff. 🤣
Please keep reacting to Epic! I really enjoy your analysis.
More on Wednesday!
Great reaction!
I think the worst part is, I know it isn't shown in the animatic, when he goes to throw the baby off, it isn't on the other side where no one can see, he has to do it publicly with his soldiers, and some have probably become his friends, watching.
