When Dave Friedman makes a preamp, you know it has to be great. And it's not only that the tone is amazing. It's the additional features too. Boost, IR's, MIDI, you name it.

Whenever there’s a “gear dump” I come to Barocsi…he’s concise and to the point…I don’t need an hour long commercial full of nonsense…thanks Kris👍
Thanks so much man, I really appreciate that! 💛
I'm being honest. I'm really tired of gear (channels). In my opinion, it's not about having all that special gear, but about having a great sound with what you have. I love your channel anyway, so don't worry! ;)
What I wanted to tell you in the first place, is, that you really found your own sound. Not talking about gear, but your phrasing and note choices. You often do something, that many try to "avoid" for some reason. Myself included. But that's nonsense! And that is playing notes more than once in a row. Melodies can benefit from playing the same note again! And that's what you do very well! I like your playing! It's really getting better and better over the years (yes, I've been subscribed to you for years! ;)). Viele Grüße aus Aachen! Markus
That was a great demo, thanks! I'm using the IR-X as my two-channel amp and cab sim in the FX loop of my HX Stomp board. The gain versatility of the IR-X is so great that I sold the majority of my overdrives and am relying mostly on IR-X or the on-board ODs of the HX Stomp.
Phenomenal work! You practically covered all the basis! Excellent job, cheers!
Thanks so much man! 🙏
Awesome video Kris!! Superb playing!
Why this acts and feels like a real tube preamp is because it is one! Such an awesome product by Mr Friedman!!
Sweet playing Kris
Great demo brother!!!
Hey Sammy, thanks so much dude! It’s awesome to hear from you. See you at Namm hopefully. 🙌
Loved the funky intro jam 👏🏻
Thanks a lot! 🙏 This is actually an own song that’s gonna be on my solo album coming out soon. Well… soonish. We’re recording drums at the moment. 😅
That had such a good vibe and groove 👏🏻 a taste of things to come look forward to your impending album.
The ir-x works great into the front of the jcm800 clone, normal channel, low gain. Stacking preamps always did wonders on my side. Sounds very natural.
I think it’s a great product. I have a tube amp but live in a studio apartment, so I usually practiced through a Roland JC-22 with headphones, so a product like this would be ideal since it’s a preamp that I can use into the effects loop. Thanks for the demo Kris, you’re an amazing musician and really know how to show us the best of a product.
Thanks a lot man! I really like this one because it feels like using a traditional amp. In your situation I‘d just put modulation and time based pedals in the IR-X‘s loop and use the headphones out. No need for anything else, you get the IR cab simulation through that output too. Super simple and boy it sounds great.
Sounds great! At the beginning, how is it connected ? is it straight to the daw?
First run through with the IRX and I put an SD1 in front of it into the return of my 5150…I was pretty blown away. I know running the send is supposed to kill the IR but it does still seem to change voicing when you click through the 3 IRs? Looking forward to adding some modulation to see where that takes it. I’ve used the TONEX pedal to get some Friedman captures and while nice…they do not stack up to this unit upon first impressions.
This man is the boss👊🤟🤟
Krisz... this thing is as weed day in magyar... KIRÁLY!!! Ordered my custom shop signed one today! O came wait to plug into it!
Thanks man! That’s awesome, have fun with it!! 🥳
Nobody has put it in front yet! Very nice combination of Marshall tonality with Fender breakup. Dig it.
Hi Kris, great video, thanks!
How does it sound compared to a Two Notes Revolt?
I'd like to know the answer to this as well! I have a Cab M+ that I'd be combining it with.
Good job keeping the bass below noon to allow the harmonic tones to come thru!!
What pickups in that Strat? sounds great!
How does this compare to the walrus acs1 with update?
Good review Kris. I have a Two Notes Revolt guitar preamp. This Friedman IR-X looks very similar. I use the Revolt after an analog pedal board >>> Fryette Power Station >>> real cabs I own. I'd use this Friedman IR-X the same way and probly never use its IRs. On the Revolt you can footswitch thru 3 channels going from Fenderish clean to Marshall OD to High Gain lead voices. Looks like you can only switch 2 channels on this IR-X yes?? Also ask the Q does IR-X sound significantly better on its base channels than Revolt. Forgetting about IRs that I'd never use - thx :)
Two channels with boost is practically 4 channels… it is explained in other videos!
Kris, I think you can disable the IR with the software if you want to output your signal through the line out
Yes, totally. You can also disable the IRs on the unit itself. Long press the left footswitch. 👍 It’s still recommended to use the FX send for amps though, since the output is a TRS jack (balanced plug).
Kris, what pickups are in that Strat with the reversed headstock? Sounds totally awesome!
Hey man, thanks! Seymour Duncan Antiquities. A tele in the bridge and two strat neck pickups (in the middle and neck positions).
Do you prefer the Dsm simplifier Mk2 or the Friedman Ir x ?
I’d like the routing options on that Dave thinks of everything
Yeah man, you can tell he made so many rigs for so many pros... He has the ears to tune in killer sounding amps and he knows what players want. Pretty badass. 😆 Cheers bro!
P90’s all-day and twice on Sundays❤🎸🤘
Ciao!
Where is the video for running this thing with midi pedal. That would open this thing up to so many options.
Hello Kris, was that intentional that you recalled „Közeli helyeken” at 3:45 (for a short impression)? 🙂
😂 not at all actually. I was never a huge Edda fan but that’s a damn good song indeed. 🙌
@@KrisBarocsi khm bikini khm :)
@@KrisBarocsi OK. Thanks for the reply! :) But Bikini, as Youkenez wrote… :D
My Fryette V1 powerstation with this would sound killer
100% 🙌
Can you tell me how this compares to the Fender Tone Master Pro? Does this sound and feel more like a real tube amp? Is the difference between the two significant?
IR-X Is actually a real high voltage tube preamp so it would feel exactly like it, while Tone Master pro is a modeler
strange thing about this pedal is it doesn't have a bypass feature... it's always on, whether channel 1 or 2, you have to pick one, why is that?
First...Cool Video Kris!!!!
Second! 🤗 You da best brother!
Is anyone running this into a power stage into a guitar cab?
I would use this with my Seymour Duncan Powerstage, in a Marshal 4x12, line out to FOH where available. A couple of pedals for effects and good to go. The drive with the P90’s is beautiful. I would never need a separate drive pedal. Great review.
Anyone looking for a kidney, I’m selling 😉
Finally not a headbanger, testing the Friedman... 🙄
Can hear some harsh clipping in the background of the unit when there is aggressive picking. Seems to be the issue with all these preamp pedals and gets really annoying personally. The same happens with the UA Dream '65 and just about every other preamp I've tried. I think this demo has sold me on sticking to tube amplifiers or amp modellers for good. Great video though!
You’re nuts man. This is a real tube amp.
This IS a tube amp.
the official kemper slayer is here
Not the same type of thing.
killer pedal, but your playing sounds excellent
Looks like Friedman found a way to repackage that recent BE-DLX Synergy module. Not that that's a bad thing...
Kris, one question, can the Friedman IR X be completely bypassed? So, that I can use different Pre-Amp Pedals or for example with a clean pedalplatform amp and still have my Amp clean tone? If yes, how?
Thank you very much 🙂
Hey, you can't bypass the IR-X on the pedal itself (you can bypass the fx loop or the IRs btu not the whole pedal). It's not really made for that. It should be last in row, you use it instead of using an amp.
@@KrisBarocsi Thanks, that helps a lot :)
I almost won a long fight with my GAS and now this thing comes out... Damn it!😂
Haha, yeah sometimes they hit the sweet spot, don’t they. 😆

Kann mann in 16:52 Minuten ein Blues-Rock Konzert geben???....... DU kannst es!
Ja kann man schon. Nur kein gutes Konzert. 😂 Spaß beiseite, vielen Dank!
I think you can turn off the IR using their app
Or just pushing a button on the pedal
Super cool how you differ your video from the Thomann-channel!
Thought that two videos on the same Pedal wouldn't be that entertaining, but... NOPE!
Aww man, thank you! Yeah I obviously didn't want to do the same thing, that'd be boring for you and for me too. 😅 I felt like we didn't show these things (strat, P90, etc) and I get it, many players prefer these guitars, or pedals and want to know how the IR-X delivers as a pedal platform. Thanks for watching, you're the man!!
I never like analog pedal for direct playing its always has freq sound that i dont like in dirt channel. But this friedman irx dont have that, Mr Dave built this right and very2 good. To bad its too expensive in Indonesia, it has price more than a tonex for an analog device.
You seem to think digital is better than analog so you should be glad that there are tons of digital amp simulators that are much cheaper!
@@hienvu1714 no no...i dont say digital are all good. My point is, theres this freq that i dont like in every analog amp sim that ive tried. Thats all.
And btw about cheap product, not every cheap is good, ive tried valeton gp jr yesterday and compared to my boss ir 200, it sooo very bad sounding IMO....fyi i did a b-ing those 2 in proper setup. 🍻🍻🍻
@@fedboy21its not a sim. Its an actual preamp
Dude, after listening to hundreds of overdrives I can honestly say they all sound the same. Just sayin
Then why did you listen to hundreds? You should have stopped at the tube screamer like everyone else did
But the thing is that those overdrive pedals have different tones most of the time
Buy a modeling amp for the same money. Another commercial cause he's got subscribers, and gets one for free.
