    I've done it for nearly four years, and agree that much of the time, a nap is needed after a center treatment. You feel really weird after these sesions.

      a nap helps since I am usually not able to sleep while in center with all the activity, people and alarms. I use that treatment time to catch up on puzzle games, movie and music usually. Sometimes, I was able to get 15-20 mins in during treatment while listening to relaxing music.

    HD patient here, ty for the great information. When dialysis takes too much fluid off, i feel amazingly tired.

      Sorry to hear that. Yes, its a common side effect with too much fluids being removed. Thanks for watching my videos.

      Hi. Just wanted to say that I have been doing dialysis for 30 years. I love talking to new patients to let them know that it's not easy BUT it doesn't have to be the end.

    i was never tired after in center hemodialysis. But I followed the diet perfectly, kept my fluid intake at 32 ozs or less per day and I kept my weight below the dry weight the Dr gave me. That way the techs could not pull fluid off me. Also I kept my bood pressure under control. Because I kept my diet under control, and met the blood test goals every month, I was able to do well on just 2 1/2 hours of treatment. I have seen people in centers eating bags of chips and drinking soda and then wondering why they have to have 4 hours of treatment and then feel bad!!!

    Thank you so much for taking the time to talk about your experience with Hemodialysis. I am considering switching my mom from peritoneal dialysis to Hemodialysis. Your info has been super helpful :) I appreciate it

      It's my pleasure. Keep in mind that each person's own experience will vary. Some like in center hemo, some do not. I prefer PD and Home Hemo as my options over in center long term, if I have a say for myself personally. And also, some folks may medically benefit from in center care if they or others are not able to manage home treatments anymore or not meeting clearances at home. Ultimately, it's what's best for the the patient and patient's choice.

    After Dialysis drink electrolytes, they are depleted when you get it. You will feel more energetic afterwards.

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  Рік тому +3

      Thank you for you comment. However, folks should be advised to check with their own nephrologist or care team as excess electrolytes or fluids may also harm some dialysis patients more than help when on dialysis and kidney failure. It is better recommended to work with their own care team to ensure the right balance of removal is achieved through their own treatments prescriptions to minimize (or avoid) fatigue after each dialysis treatment.

    I still produce urine and I live in a hot and arid area (Mesa AZ). I attribute my exhaustion much on dehydration after dialysis. I drink as much water as I need to and I dont retain much as long as I watch my salt intake. Listen to your body. If you are thirsty, drink. But watch your salt intake. I drink water. I used to put lemon in it, but I retained fluid from doing that. So I stopped doing that. I just drink plain water. I also drink a cup of coffee a day. Its a diuretic, so I get rid of most of it.

    Do you have a fistula? You look great! Nice to see healthy looking dialysis patients. Im at 16% functioning, and will have to start in about a year most likely.

      Nocturnal in center hemodialysis run at a slower BFR and less taxing on your body, but typically not available as a treatment modality for most patients in the U.S. and we finally on path to offer and speak about different modalities options as option here again,

      @@KidneyJourneys Right now I’m okay with my schedule! My husband does my needles in center! My goal is to eventually do NxStage and travel! And I forgot that my kidneys originally failed in November 1979! My diagnosis was Glomerulonephritis of Unknown Origin! I had gone into Congestive Heart Failure at age 7!

    Hi just new to hemodialysis, about 5 months. Yes I feel tire after quite a lot of the times. So I usually do it in the afternoon around 3pm so I can work in the morning/afternoon, and if I am tired I can just go to bed or take it easy. Sometimes I feel great and bouncy after, but found out still not to push it to much afterwards. Other odd things I had happen was the first couple of months I had Iron man hands and feet. It felt like I had flames coming from my palms and feet! It was sporadic and lessened over time to smaller areas till it was gone. Now I tend to get really hot legs at night, especially thighs, that will keep me awake at times. But not all nights. Has anyone else heard of these things?

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching the vlog and commenting. Sorry to hear you are still feeling tired. I would recommend keeping an eye on your albumin, iron and hemoglobin levels with your team, when those are low, they can also make you more fatigued, even when dialysis is goign well.

    I am just 25 yrs old and on haemodialysis. What can be done to improve my blood pressure?

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry that you are having to perform dialysis at an early age. I would recommend you consult with your nephrologist. (kidney doctor) regarding your concerns with your blood pressure. It's often treated with medication and fluid management. There may be other health concerns that causes your blood pressure issues as well. For them to help you look into. . Thank you for reaching out and watching my videos.

    People on dialysis she'll be cautious of the fluid intake you're so very heavy they also eat ice chips instead of water

    • @KidneyJourneys
      @KidneyJourneys  13 днів тому

      Different treatment modalities offers different amounts of fluids for each individual patient. It would also depend on how much residual kidney and urine output function they still have while on their preferred treatment modality. At the time of making this video, I was 6'1" at 175, but the camera adds about 10-15 lbs besides of my genetics of being a larger build with rounder face. Yes, ice chips may be a option for some, but excess ice chips also may be excess fluids when it melts.
