Hi Jonathan, I love your podcasts and this video in particular!!! I have a question, I wonder if you might have any tips for curling hair that does not like to stay curled :-) I could have curls in my hair for 24h and 2h after I take them out my hair is flat straight. Are there any products you could recommend? Thank you!
I haven't found a cruelty free & vegan heat protectant that doesn't make my hair greasy & lank :( maybe I'm just using too much? Thanks for the tip about tieing it up before bed!
“Just because you get older does not mean you have to chop all your hair off.” Thank you Jonathon!! At 57 I am loving my long hair and have no plans to cut it short. LOVE your channel! 🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely agree! I'm in my 20s but I find it so sad how women are told to cut off their hair to look more fashionable. In some cases it's ok, but I LOVE long hair. I actually think the 'short hair' look a lot of women go for is just a conservative attitude, which reflects the state of mind. Be Free and have fun, this mentality is so sad
My 60 year old mother has the most stunning, waist-length silvery white hair. I can’t imagine it cut short. My own hair seems to stop growing around shoulder length 🥲
1- Wide tooth comb in shower to distribute conditioner 2- Don’t overwash. 2-4X per week. Even sweat ok, blow dry it into your head. Use high quality shampoo no silicones/sulfates. 3- Silk pillow case + hair in a loose top knot/silk cap. Sleeping damages ends. 4- Don’t lift more than 2-3 shades. It will change texture, and takes long (years) to get back to normal. 5- Wear your hair at any length at any age. 6- Use heat protection on hair for less damage therefore less needs to be cut at the salon. 7- Do not keep in clipins for long. Too damaging where it’s attached. Weaves as well. Max 3-4 weeks. 8- Bonus - Develop a good relationship with a stylist you like. Also don’t use box dye, that change will be with you for years.
i absolutely dont agree with the 2nd one. if your SCALP needs washing everyday, do it. just dont use strong shampoos (like for example head n shoulders) everyday use some gentle ones. keeping the dirt sweat etc for long might cause some issues
using strong shampoos is okay when your scalp needs it. not everyday, for some people, using shampoos with alcohols, sodium laureth sulfates everyday can cause irritation and again - excessive sebum production excessive

Thank you for acknowledging that people may need to wash their hair more than 2-3 times a week. Everyone is just saying "oh, washing less frequently will train your scalp" and no, I tried that for 3 months, and the only thing it did is made me accept having greasy hair. I can't wait for my hair to turn gray! I sound like a weirdo, but I'm 43 and am tired of being treated like a little kid cause of all the baby fat in my face.
I took your suggestion and used a wet brush to comb the conditioner into my hair while in the shower. Um…game changer. So simple but I didn’t know. Thank you! I will watch more of your videos.
My thirteen year old who spent the last two years in scuzzy teen land , complete with greasy, stinky hair and everything else, watch this vid I recommend to her and the transformation was incredible, now she showers and washes and conditions her hair as per your recommendations, ans her beautiful Asian hair is a joy to behold (when she has in done, read never 🤦🏻♀️) costing me a fortune in water and hair products!
Switching to your haircare brand and products was the best decision I made! My hair, scalp and my wallet all thanked me for it! Not afraid to say that I was spending them $$ on custom made Prose products but still not seeing the progress and healthy hair I wanted. And after switching to JVN hair, I've got compliments from my friends AND MY HAIRSTYLIST!! You know it's real when your hairstylist says I'm jealous of your natural hair, volume and love the smell of your hair. She even asked me what brand I used Jonathan! Aaarrgh so pumped and happy! Thank you, thank you, thank you for creating JVN hair 🥰❣️❣️ love you and love your brain baby too!
I have dry curly hair, and all my life I've been waiting to find some one like you for the perfect tips on how to finally, hopefully maintain my strands ❤️👏👍
Thank you so much, I am 66 and sporting long hair (and I have never used color or damaged my hair). My big hassle though, I suddenly got a bad bout of psoriasis and I had to go through 7 series of prednisone, and then another anti biotic to cure that and promptly got Covid. It has made my hair fall out in strands by the handfuls. I'm sure this will help slow that down. The good thing with this...the grey fell, not the dark new hair. I look like I got a color job. I have to wait this out, but now I know I'll be doing the best things for my hair.
This is the first time I have heard that sweat is good for your hair, but it makes so much sense! I’ve been so conditioned (pun intended) by beauty commercials, I’ve been running to the shower after my workouts to get the free conditioner out of my hair!
You're so intelligent. I mean it's so rare. It's easy to find people with information. But there are these fillers that flow out in your sentences that are brimming with wisdom. I'm so delighted to discover you 😇
Thank you saving my hair. Being handicapped disabled, taken so many meds ruined my hair. I was loosing my hair, now my hair gorgeous. It’s stronger, healthier. Thank you from this 60 years old grandma
I completely believe in building a relationship with your stylist. My stylist has never once pressured me to get anything done that i never needed. I wanted to get a keratin treatment because I live in Singapore where it’s humid and he nearly beat me over the head with a dyson air wrap for wanting to do anything to my naturally wavy hair. I wanted to get some shampoo and conditioner at the salon and he told me that because i have virgin hair i was fine with the shampoo and conditioner that I was already using. Tldr; he saved me a fuck ton of money.
100% this. It takes time sometimes to find your hairstylist but that relationship is so important. And you know you found the right one when they saying no to you or like you said, threaten you with physical harm when you share your latest color or cut idea 😂 If your stylist can stand their ground and say no, they are a good one.
Oh wow, I’ve never thought about how body heat affects hair strands! My hair is still pretty short but once it gets a bit longer I will pile it up. I’ve never had hair extensions either, but thinking about the weight of extensions on fresh growth alone makes me not really want to push my luck 😅 Thanks!
Yes for the long hair in any age you want! I had short hair when younger and now in my 30s I have them long till my waist and love it. Some of my colleagues think it's inappropriate after 30, I don't understand why. I'm still learning how to take proper care of my long hair tho, but getting there. I'm going to use the comb for conditioner and I have to buy silk pillow case! Thank you!
i have type 4 hair and this was excellent. ty for emphasizing ur point about hair color. idk why some stylists like to pretend that hair coloring doesn't chemically alter the texture of ur hair.,,
Would you consider creating a video with tips for gray hair? have been dye free for three years. I have natural silverish highlights, but my natural hair, without dye, is just super fine and the gray hair is like baby hair. I struggle to keep it from breaking and to keep it shiny. I think many would benefit from your expertise. You are so knowledgeable, entertaining, and well… someone who lights up my day. Thank you!
“DO NOT…I repeat DO NOT!!” Had me in stitches this afternoon! I love your products Jonathan. I am a faithful user of the the nurture shampoo and conditioner and many of your other products. It has helped my normally frizzy curly hair shine!!!❤️❤️
Thank you, I love watching you and think you're lovely, sweet and a genuine good person. Love your silliness and wish you were my best friend! You make me smile always. Thanks for all the good tips and all the positivity you spread always. ❤
I agree with you Jonathan regarding Point #7 (extensions). Also, some women have suffered from some forms of alopecia due to keeping their extensions in for many weeks to months at a time. Thank you so much for your advice concerning this topic plus many others! 🤗💖
Thanks, JVN!! I didn't realize the one about putting hair up at night. It's taken me years to find the right stylist and it really is a treasure to know how to protect all the work we BOTH put into our crown. 🤗
Oh my god, thank you so much, especially for the reminder that you should rock whatever length you want. I had LONG, gorgeous dark/somewhat golden brown hair, and in Indian culture, long hair is prized in women. I was tired of getting the same old layers, and impulsively decided to chop it off so that it barely grazed my collarbone, and I coloured it red for the first time! And oh my god, it was such a glow up! And because the length used to weigh my hair down, the short haircut was able to bring out my natural waves! This ties in to your last step about having a relationship with your stylist. It was this stylist who not only helped me pick the right shade of red (the fade looks amazing too, so no rush to get it touched up), but also the right haircut for my facial features! Props to you JVN and all the great stylists around who can see the beauty in their clients and help bring it out. ❤️ Also, absolutely agree about boxed dye being shit. I know someone who has been using it for YEARS and her hair only looks good after extensive styling, because it's super damaged otherwise. :( It's a much better investment to go to a good stylist who can prevent damage and actually help you understand your own hair better.
I am so happy I ran across this video!! I think I love you Jonathan!! I wish you were here in Georgia because you would be taking care of my hair for sure! You have a new subscriber who's off to binge watch your videos!! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us! God bless 💞
Needed this right now!! I'm in the middle of the horrendous process of growing out my pixie cut! Don't regret the pixie at all! Loved it in fact - but the grow out process has me anxious over protecting the hair i've got lol! I'm realising i might need to give up the bleaching *cries*
I learned your tip recently about combing the conditioner in the shower (thanks for that!)My hair is thick and long (touches the middle of my back) so sometimes it is a handful! I still don’t have any gray at the age of 68! I would like to have it cut and styled but I am nervous about going to a stylist. I keep putting it off as a result. I am in the St. Louis area (across the river in Illinois) so if you are ever in my area I hope to meet you!
Happy to report that I’m already using almost all of these tips!! I’ve started using your products and I LOVE them. I’ve been letting my gray come out to play over the last few years and I have to say, I love it. Thank you for making such amazing products and fun content on here! You’re one of my favorite people!! Keep bringing all the joy!
I knew I had to tie my hair up at night to avoid it getting tangled, so I’ve been doing a low ponytail for so long. I didn’t realise the rubbing at night against the pillow would be so damaging. Top knot from here on out ❤️
#5 you nailed it! I have curly hair and thick as well so I can't cut my hair to shorts because it's too puffy so I just cut it below my shoulder and I can still do some hair dos while keeping my head light and not heavy when it's up to my lower back
I use a Silk pillow case and silk wrap thing. I leave my hair down but I flip it up so it’s not rubbing against my back. My hair is long and curly so I don’t want to put it up too often.
My hair is 100x better thanks to your shampoo and conditioner! Plus the after creams and oils. I will have to try the wet brush in the shower. Love it all!!
I went to dye my curly hair and now it's a mess, it will takes years to come back to my natural curly, this kind of tips are very important. Thank you Jonathan
Omg the sweat tip just blew me away cause I almost wash it daily because Im sweaty after working out and I don't like "keeping the humidity of sweat in my hair" but I'm gonna try it!!
I love the brush in the shower tip! It made a difference in my hair today. So soft and smooth! I purchased your shampoo and conditioner and can’t wait to try them! Thank you for making them affordable😘🌻✌🏽
I am 60 and stopped colouring my hair about 4 years ago... I'm also rocking it longer than since forever, so much healthier!! The only thing is, it's getting thinner in the front... if only I could flip my healthier looking hair from the back to the front, ha! I love all your tips, I love watching QE, I love your positive energy!!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU :-) I'm 54, my hair is uber thick (mostly), wavy and down to my butt. I trim it regularly. I was a ginger/auburn and now can be described as a strawberry blonde by [honest] ppl, by others [not so nice] that say, "a red head? Really!! yeah whatever!! It's so nice to hear someone saying it doesn't matter what age you are. My friends accept me for who I am, no opinion and I try my best to look after my hair. I found that radiotherapy did fry it a lot but that was 6 years ago now so I'm just going round trying to find the best lotions, potions and techniques to use. I'm so glad I found you :) *subscribed :-)xx
thank you for these awesome tips!! i just got a fresh haircut that I'm absolutely obsessed with and hopefully by following your advice I'll be able to keep it looking as fresh for as long as possible💗
I've always loved you, Jonathan 🥰 I have to say though, some of us can't afford the high price tag of coloring at the salon every 3-4 weeks. I ain't going gray, it's just NOT happening. So I color my own. I couldn't find a colorist to make me a nice red anyway. I've tried 3. The worst is was having a shade that fades in a week to orange. Do it myself and it's absolutely perfect. Perfect shade, perfect fade. And I get compliments when I do myself, even from the salon! I'll keep doing it myself.
My aunt is a hairdresser and tested out extensions on my mom years ago. She gave her extensions that went down to her butt and my mom hated sleeping in them so she took the nail clippers to them. Let's just say she had weird chunky layers for months...
Jonathan you're amazing! I'd like to know about premature greying of hair, how to prevent it. Another thing is how to take care of your hair if you live in a region with hard water is the only option to wash hair. Thanks! Love from India.

I would love a video on transitioning to gray or how to manage gray. I started turning gray/white after having my 1st child at 27 and I have no idea what to do 😭 random crazy longs strands of gray but still dark at the root! I’m lost 😭 any advice in the comments are welcomed! ❤️
You could let your hair go grey . And this is kinda random . But I've found that you can use toner or purple shampoo not only on blonde hair but you can use it on grey hair as well makes it look more like a silvery whitey color. I could be wrong but it might work I'm pretty sure this is what my grandma use to do with her grey hair and it looked more silver ish / white ish color was beautiful. I also use toner on my brown ish copper ish hair and it helps my hair not look as yellow makes it more of a goldfish brown ish copper ish . But yeah I think silver ish / white ish hair is beautiful in my opinion. And isn't it like supposed to be trending that color Could dye your hair silver I'm not sure if that makes sense. Hope that helped 🙂

Can you do a video on curling hair for hair that doesn't hold a curl? I do all that curling work and it falls flat like an hour later. My hair is so straight and sad. Thank you!
First off, I absolutely love you and your beautiful self! And two, finding a stylist you trust these days is damn near impossible. I'll find a good stylist, the first time, and then every time after that they fuck my hair up. No consistency with the hair stylists in my area. It's like you are doing them a disservice by coming them to do your hair like it isn't their job. Ive had more horrible hair cuts than good ones in my lifetime at the hands of "professionals" and I know I'm not alone here whatsoever. Unlike you, the stylists In my area genuinely act like you are infringing on their time to get a hair cut or color. This is why I learned to cut my hair because of the mass amount of negligent hair stylists I've come across. I so wish you were In my area I'd kill to have you do my hair!!!
I love this! Just curious, as an African American woman , I’ve been educated that once a week washing is ok. Do you encourage that for 4b hair? Instead of 2-4 times a week?? ❤️
I only wash my hair twice a week IF I am working out hard. And then I use a rich co-wash. But I like the other comment. “You know your hair best.” -4b/c hair Ps. Using JVN products revolutionized how easy it is to care for my hair. So washing is no longer this 3-hour event. (1 - 1.5 hrs (for a flat iron routine)). Ease of care is everything!
My mother had 4b/c hair and she would wash her hair 1-2 times a week then style it with hot curling tongs and it looked good .. Basically every 4-5 days.. but as everyone else said, it's really what works for YOU x

Love these tips. Going to incorporate some of them, especially the wide tooth comb for conditioner and the bed time up do.
Yes!!
I love your happy, sensitive attitude.
I'm in Singapore too!
I just keep looking at Jonathan's happy healthy hair and super pretty and simple braid. So pretty...
Your personality and the way you interact with the camera is so charmingly infectious.
❤️❤️
Yes for the long hair in any age you want! I had short hair when younger and now in my 30s I have them long till my waist and love it. Some of my colleagues think it's inappropriate after 30, I don't understand why. I'm still learning how to take proper care of my long hair tho, but getting there. I'm going to use the comb for conditioner and I have to buy silk pillow case! Thank you!
They're just probably envious
i have type 4 hair and this was excellent. ty for emphasizing ur point about hair color. idk why some stylists like to pretend that hair coloring doesn't chemically alter the texture of ur hair.,,
I appreciate tht he included 4c tho
Also his hair is sooo beautiful. This is what you call practicing what you preach. Love it!
You are the cutest, nicest and most helpful person in the whole youtubeverse. when it comes to hair!
Can confirm with the silk pillow cases! I’ve used them for years now and my skin and hair love them!
any suggestions on where to buy one??
I just love his energy 🥰 there’s just something about him that makes me feel so good about myself and loved haha.
ditto
❤️❤️
I love you Jonathan! Thank for representing the Cosmos! You always bring a smile to my face😊.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
JVN, I love the way you talk. Thank you for teaching me about levels of hair dye! These are things the layperson doesn't think about! Thanks!
❤️❤️
I’ve only seen this man just now and I’m obsessed already
Also, absolutely agree about boxed dye being shit.
Thank you for explaining tip #1. I'll be buying a second comb for the shower. All of these tips are great 👍 and finding the right stylist is a must!
👍👍
I just love Jonathan! He's an earth angel.
Who me???
Yes you@@jvn. You make the world a better place by just being yourself. That's inspirational.
I have curly hair and thick as well so I can't cut my hair to shorts because it's too puffy so I just cut it below my shoulder and I can still do some hair dos while keeping my head light and not heavy when it's up to my lower back
One of the best videos about hair tips I've ever seen!
I use a Silk pillow case and silk wrap thing. I leave my hair down but I flip it up so it’s not rubbing against my back. My hair is long and curly so I don’t want to put it up too often.
👍👍👍
Thank you for all of this helpful advice! I really appreciate knowing what not to do, I have very curly hair and usually don't worry about how I sleep. I will definitely take your advice! I also cut and color my own hair and have hairdresser fright. I hope I can find a hairdresser some day! I'd love for you to do my hair Johnathan ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Yes yes yes to applying these tips to your life! And yes to finding a hairdresser. Check out my hairstylist school video for how to find!
Thank you for this. I’m growing my hair out for the first time since I lost it all with chemo. This will help a lot. ❤️❤️
You make everyone so happy JVN...love your products and positivity❤
❤️❤️❤️
The DO NOTS at the beginning of this vid just make me so happy 😂😂
I love this 🤣 the energy in this video and just how passion Jonathan is about hair ❤️
Love your “Getting Curious” show! Is it true you should rinse your hair in cold water at the end of a shower?
Never mind the hair, Jonathan your gymnastics!!!! WOW! 🤩
thank you for these awesome tips!! i just got a fresh haircut that I'm absolutely obsessed with and hopefully by following your advice I'll be able to keep it looking as fresh for as long as possible💗
Jonathan, I'd love it if you did a video on the relationship between sweat and hair that you brought up in this video!
I absolutely love you Jonathan! You are the best and I love all your videos and wealth of knowledge you have! ❤️
Aweeee thank you for being here
I've always loved you, Jonathan 🥰 I have to say though, some of us can't afford the high price tag of coloring at the salon every 3-4 weeks.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful knowledge with us ! I feel more at ease now after watching all the videos. At 30 I was really debating on coloring my hair again or growing it out. Going to keep it natural and following all your tips ❤️🔥 I was doing everything wrong ☹️
thanks for such examples for people to try an organize similar resemblances of cultured expression and free flow range control levels.
I was so obsessed with my long-haired weave that I left in too long, and my hair thinned so bad. Has taken forever to grow my beautiful curls back. I’m sorry Jonathan, no one told me! #livedandlearned
Thaaannnkkkkk Yyyyyyoooouuuuu
for being honest, concise.
Beauty guru!! I will trust these tips with my life haha THANK YOU! ✨
Your hair will thank you!
Thank you so much for your haircare line. I have been using it for 2 weeks now and I am such a happy customer and will be ordering more for sure! My hair is forever changed :)
So so glad!!
And isn't it like supposed to be trending that color
Could dye your hair silver
I'm not sure if that makes sense.
Hope that helped 🙂
@@Hazardous537 i am totally down to go grey! 🥰 problem is it doesn’t happen all at once so i still have dark roots!
You’re absolutely right on everything !

Thank you so much for addressing women of color with these tips 😊❤️
I have half of thyriod and i lost alot of hairs. Now they are very thin and soft. Thank You for tips. 🧜🏻♀️
Your instant recovery serum and the Undamage shampoo and conditioner have been keeping my hair so healthy! I use them on my 6 year old daughter too because kindergartners are rough on their own hair 😂
Yes you hair health master!!!
@@jvn what is the best shampoo for fine hair that has been highlighted processed many yrs I'm speaking out of all the brands on earth that won't build up on the hair give me a good recommendation it be appreciated
My hair has never looked or felt better since I started using your products. Thank you for the gorgeous ingredients in you shampoo!!!
❤️❤️❤️ so glad!!
Can you do a video on curling hair for hair that doesn't hold a curl? I do all that curling work and it falls flat like an hour later. My hair is so straight and sad. Thank you!
Check out my beach waves tutorial!
Just curious, as an African American woman , I’ve been educated that once a week
washing is ok. Do you encourage that for 4b hair? Instead of 2-4 times a week?? ❤️
You know your hair the best. Find out what works for you :)
I only wash my hair twice a week IF I am working out hard. And then I use a rich co-wash. But I like the other comment. “You know your hair best.” -4b/c hair
Ps.
I am a hairstylist as well....number 8....so so true, better words could not have been chosen. Thank you JVN.
I’ve learned so much from you JVN 🥰🥰🥰 hope your feeling better 💜💜💜
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
I remember you exactly for your amazing hair on Queer Eye, it was so nice to see that your hair looks even prettier today, thanks for the advice :)
Just in time for class!!
☝️
Just bought your shampoo/conditioner/etc and LOOOOOVE so much!
Yayyyyyyy I’m so so so glad!!! I put a lot of myself and experience into the product.
