Different arguments could be made for which is the best book for learning animation, and the answer is simple: there isn’t one. There is a large variety of animation books for different uses such as stop motion, 3D, 2D and much more. However, there are 3 books that need to be on any aspiring animator’s shelf, regardless of the type of animator they are.

One book I read in conjunction with Richard Williams is Eric Goldberg's animation crash course. Eric expands on what Richard teaches you in how to apply technique to a character's personality, and planning an animation based on that character's personality, and is really helping me move forward in my own work.
I just got my survival kit today. I'm so happy😀
My brother and I have all 3 books. They’re a real treasure, especially “The Animator’s Survival Kit”😃😃This book is considered the best learning source for every animator and animation pupil around the world as it covers the entire knowledge of the basics🤩🤩🤩🤩It really helps you understand animation in a proper way! RIP, Mr. Williams💐💐💐💐Thank you for the knowledge🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi can you guide me on sound of animation characters please
Actually, the Preston Blair book is older than that, going back to the early 1950s. I first saw it in 1958 and it was the first animation book I had when I started out. This was largely because there were no others out there at the time.
And it’s still the best
Hi can you guide me on sound of animation characters please
Well then, I know what I want for Christmas XD
Thank you very for this! The said books were obviously Great. and plus another wonderful one. I will look for this books on the book store and learn more.

That is really perfect! I can really get some of those books. Thank you so much. I'll also learn how to draw cute and adorable animal characters in my style!
These are truly some of the most important and best books for anyone looking to master the art of hand drawn animation. Special thanks for mentioning the oldest masters - wizards of classical animation.
Haha! I have all these three books for more than a decade already - even before this video was published.
I'm glad that I got Cartoon Animation as a Christmas gift a month back.
looks very useful
I didn't a bout it
thanks for the useful informations
I'm learning maya 😊 I'll try to get them
I like the Blair book the best - the clearest distillation of info and the most visual.
I have owned all three for decades! Absolutely a must!
I found the book of preston Blair on my library ! I'm so happy !
There is one book I wish would have gotten an honorable mention: Character Animation Crash Course by Eric Goldberg(a.k.a. Father of the Genie)

So far I have the animators survival kit and setting the scene
thanks
is your book available on amazon
The book "Character Animation Crash Course" by Eric Goldberg is excellent! In my opinion, it is more worthy of inclusion on this list than Preston Blaire's book (though Blaire's book would come in at number four for me).
Thank you so much it's video very helpful for me , brother love from India ❤️
Is it available in amazon
Can anybody tell me please, where can we purchase these books?

Thank you very much. I can't find any good books about animation here in spain. I'll read it when my english be better. Sorry if I write bad somthing.

Awesome man i find the last one interesting hahah yeah "bloopanimation". i have animatiors survival kit,its awesome now i shifted from 2D to 3D animation,so i need a book on guide on 3D animation. I dont need the basics of it because i am a graduate just tips and tricks would be fine. And also i was looking for on assistance on demoreel for 3D animator,aa..and on how to have an idea on a story of creating a shortmovie, further assistance on higher studies in 3D animation (shifting from degree to masters),how to pick universities which are top best univiersities in the world,aaaa...nd last but not the least how to become a freelance 3D aniamator.
i would really be glad and satisfied if i get assistance with all of those above.
ans thanks again man "YOU'RE AWESOME".!!!
Hey sir, I'm beginner and we are practicing daily but not getting how to do. So can you suggest and guide me if you dont mind.
i have 1 n 3 one yay!
Where is the animators work book its similar to this books
Can you recommend any book about history of animation?
Milan Bojić There’s a brief history section in the Animators Survival Kit
I will buy these
Are these books only available on amazon?
no
I have the Disney illusion of life book but not the rest.
Yay! I've got all 3 of those books.
I will too in no time
I just wish the material found in these book, could be in video format......
The book "Character Animation Crash Course" by Eric Goldberg is excellent and even more worthy of being on a "top 3" list than the Preston Blair book. There is a website they provide that goes along with the book with an extensive amount of video material illustrating many of the principles. The link is provided in the book.
If you only get one book, The Animator's Survival Kit should be it. Richard Williams is a master. :)
GREAT ADVICE. I've owned all three for years.
*Pirating Intensifies*
Book sales intensify
Screw it, I might as well buy all three of them.
can i use all this 3 books for 3D animation?
Emman Martin While they are focused on 2D, these books can teach principles applicable to 3D, although not all of it will be useful.
Honestly 3d doesn't require any skill so don't waste your time or money. The computer basically does all the work for you, you're pretty much just playing a video game.
really funny joke, although I think he was serious @@larrylovehandle8472
Animation schools in America I assume?
are they available in india ?
GAME ZONE if you are lucky enouth to find it then yes.
I guessed two right...now gimme a freaking medal
Aspiring animators will need to study these. Animation software is the last thing they should learn about.
Arent They 4?
Is the second book beneficial to 3D animators?
yes, they are Great for Animation in general.
i bought it and you're right it's an awesome book
Robert Bagley see that's where you're wrong Robert, it might look nice on your shelf, and might impress your friends, but both you and I know that 3d animation requires absolutely no skill of any kind, so the book might as well be in Chinese with photos of pandas for all the good it will do you.
i want to buy your book animation for beginners , how i can get it
Anuj Goel
They list a link in the description, and I believe you can get it on Amazon as well
Ur channel name remind me of floop

@@rimurutempest7291 just find the pdf on internet.
1.animators survival kit.
2.cartoon animation.
3.the illusion of life.
Luckily, I have survival kit and illusion of life 😀
can I use these books for 3d animations?
Yes since the principles of animation is universal no matter what medium you use (stop motion, hand drawn, or 3D animation). They all try create the illusion of movement.
you lied! there are not three books, but FOUR! :D
No animators survival kit? That's books golden.
Huh? It was in the video.
It was the first book, bro.
+Smart Cat Productions Didn't notice it. The edition I have is waaaaaay different. He must have a first edition or something.
For me animation survival kit isn’t the best because it’s too much irrelevant detail, bogged down with theory, and, well, Richard Williams is not the best draftsman, his drawings are a little stiff compared to Blair or Disney. Definitely great info but I would start with Blair.
