- The U.S. and several other countries are sending warships to the southern Red Sea to protect shipping routes. Several shipping vessels have come under fire from Iran-backed Houthi rebels since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. Ramy Inocencio has the latest.

@@id10t98 The US Ships are being sent with other ships from UK, France, Spain, etc. (International Coalition). And the US actually did ask China to help out, as well.

The Red Sea belongs to no country, it is international waters. However, as an American I don't want our Navy there either. Our military needs to do it's job and protect our borders instead of allowing the current invasion to continue.

On the other hand, 10-15% of ALL global oil trade passes through that strait and while that doesn't sound like a lot, the same 'world police' complainers will complain in a few weeks when their gas prices go up due to the horrendous delays those oil tankers now have to endure by going around Africa instead. Yemen has sanctioned Israel, the US & UK - these countries are banned from entering Yemens waters including the Red Sea - any country going in would be doing so illegally under international law and their ships are legally subject to being seized. Also included are any ships sailing to and from Israel. So..... which are the countries who disobey international laws ?
When you close the Red Sea shipping lanes you punish all countries in the Middle East including those of Iran and Yemen. Please remember these countries do not, I repeat do not produce enough of their own food, cotton, medicines, and technology. They get these commodities outside of the Middle East to do that the shipping lanes must stay open. Any shutdown of "Global Sea lanes" and you would see the Arab and Iranian peoples start to starve and de-industrialize within 6 months.
