  • The Twenty-Ninth episode in this Hardcore Space Engineers Survival Series. This week we repurpose the Crawler into the new and improved Hauler in preparation for the next chapter in our adventure! Our starter bases were fun, but it's time to say goodbye in the pursuit of bigger and better things.

    I keep seeing the engines on the not-rover and imagine them on rotors. So you could pitch up and have all engines on blast in the same direction.

    • @FlamingNinja
      @FlamingNinja 2 роки тому +9

      Vectored thrust is feasible, but there is a limit to the angle and/or the number of thrusters that would be able to rotate at any one time.
      Some vectored flight scripts still work thankfully.

    • @gigabot3662

      @@FlamingNinja Even if only the front engines or a 45 degree shift. I am thinking of manual translation, push a button and over 30 seconds the rotors spin to 45 or 90 degrees. The added lateral thrust would also help in space I imagine.

      @death13a 2 роки тому +1

      Problem is that SE isn't nice with thrusters on hinges or rotors, you will need to manually operate thrusters thrust. But there is a script that makes it viable to use vector thrust.

    Honestly I think one of the reasons you've been so successful in making content on UA-cam so far is your building style, most people dedicate a fair amount of time to a mothership detail wise, but static bases get no love, and they're always made assuming you've got a full jetpack, you put care into the design of almost literally everything you build, extra walkways where you could manage without, standardized connector layouts so any small grids you make can hook up to any large grids, the aesthetic care you take with designs so they look nice even if primarily utility focused, you're just so creative it really helps capture the attention, it also helps that you timelapse builds so we see the building process, but not every change in concept and thought process that leads to the final product as that can take some time, especially when you've only got a loose idea and you're getting initial framework laid to better help inspire the vision

      I really appreciate you saying that and am grateful for the insight. I really love building bases and the somewhat organic way in which they grow. That was one of the main points I considered when designing the scenario is, how would the game look different with these restrictions (No suit, No jetpack, High Gravity). The constraints are ultimately what cause the differences, that and my need for something to look somewhat cool haha! We engineer solutions to our problems, so by providing different problems we have to find different solutions.

    The not dying while on the ship is a bug with grids depressurizing. A reload fixes it.
    The overrides act the same as if you were holding the button for that direction, which disables dampeners in that direction. Because the big thrusters arent on override too, only the small thrusters are lifting.

    Something I've done to counteract gravitational effects on subgrids and attaached ships is using active thrusters facing downwards with thrust override. On docked ships, I leave the thrust override active, but deactivate all but the downward thrusters. On subgrids, I give the subgrid a remote control with override turned on, plus enough thrusters to carry the weight of the subgrid. It's kept ships pretty stable while hovering for me.

    Answers to your musings:
    Build vision won't pull across grid connections, that's the reason why you had to reach into the base connection instead of pulling through the reactor. That was a feature of easy inventory that wasn't brought over.

    You can always turn your old base into a museum. Doc your Turtles with a little plaque saying what episode they were in, and how many of them there were. Same thing with the Bobs and other ships. if you still have the Seeker 01 you can display it there too. Then you can always come back and add new wings for your new basis. The best museums are always off the beaten path. Well in your case the other side of the planet.

    Build planner only pulls from the same grid, not from any attached grids or sub grids. And you nailed the dampener issue. Good old SE dampener bugs. It’s not about turning thrusters on while undocked though. It’s about docking the small ships without also being docked to a static grid. Subgrid dampening is so messy…
    Barrel roll was almost certainly because the Seeker is attached to a piston. I would have another mag plate directly on the main grid to secure it at the top. And disengage the piston plate after locking that one.
    For parking the Hauler I would suggest a downward facing alignment camera, along with a marker on the ground. Align camera with marker, adjust grid yaw and level, go straight down.

    *my suggestion*
    I’ve seen a few comments discussing an underground base. You could put a small outlook on the top of the little hill to over see the ice lake that houses your antenna array for the end goal. Then you could build a bridge to the mountain behind it and build an underground base. As a bonus underground bases are immune to lightning strikes.

    It could be really cool with bases with multiple pressurised areas if you could set up sensors to detect a hull breach and automatically seal all nearby bulkheads. Could be helpful once you're in space as oxygen would be much more valuable and you'd be in combat, otherwise a single hull breach means you'll lose all your O2

    They changed something with overrides last update, they also override the dampeners in certain directions. A simple workaround is to put your auxiliary lifting thrusters on a locked rotor, if they're not part of the main grid then they won't affect its dampeners. Of course, they will also only work on override unless you run a subgrid thrust control script. With all that said, it's probably not needed, as they also made some improvements with the drift issue, it's much better than it used to be but still gets buggy occasionally.

Also , you should put a remote control to go with the antenna on the Hauler and some directional cameras because if you take off with the seeker, you wont be able to get back on mid flight.

Little tedious to set up but it's a little easier than running to turn each off or fighting the dampeners.

    Why you can't pull inventory from the ship:
    Using the MMB Build Planner controls only pulls from local inventory. If you want to pull inventory from a connected grid you have to use the build planner controls from inside the inventory screen itself.
    Also, I think the modded airlock connector is what's preventing you from taking damage while running around on the ship.

    The issue you are having with pulling components using build planner is a bug. For some reason, build planner has issues pulling components from the main storage using a subgrid access point. Leaving two solutions that I have found for this are to either pull directly from the storage grid or access the inventory of the subgrid and click the "add all comps" button.
    As for you not taking damage when on the hauler, that may be related to another bug that causes areas around a grid to be pressurized when they shouldn't and not pressurized when they should be. I have a modified LCC-3 that is plagued with this bug causing the inside not to pressurize when it should be. I think it has something to do with the doors as sometimes fiddling with the doors fixes the bug. Other times I just have to wait for it to pass. I believe I have made a couple of reports to Keen about it and have offered my blueprint to see if they can figure it out

      The pulling components problem with the base game build planner is why I always just use easy inventory. This problem's been around for literally years at this point

    You should definitely add a remote control block to the drop ship. Ya know, just in case😉
