All these years later and this interview is still pure gold.
I’ve come back to it multiple times
Sun Ra is to Madlib...what Madlib is to me...inspiration.
+Mark Hazleton Damn, respect Fam... That's so well said.
nice comparison for a newer generation
Sun Ra is dope, what he and his orkestra were doing were as revolutionary as modern hip hop beats are today. Glad I am alive to experience the world of music today

Check out my Sun Ra cover please! Let me know what you think: ua-cam.com/video/PA-rQX1tCWA/v-deo.html
Interviewer was geeked out. Good to see.
love that Madlib says he's still learning, still progressing. that's the mark of a true master, that humility and the knowledge that there's still so much out there left to do.
the more you know the more you know how much you dont know
I literally feel honored to live in the same time-frame as Madlib.
yup...he's that legendary. A TRUE artist.
I’m gon report this comment, u just can’t be speaking truth out in plain day light. It’s for the initiated only.
blaho How you get initiated🤡
Truth

Madlib has more talent and creative genius in his left toe then 95 percent of music today
"Good music is good music, it doesn't matter where its from"
People and objects may lie, but music never will.
awesome dude, awesome outlook
amen
Talib
"If it sounds good, it is good." - Duke Ellington
The best madlib interview ever. Real chemistry between the two of them and she was able to make him speak somehow.
Shoutout Laura Leishman, that was a great interview. it's not easy to be in the same room as a guy like madlib when he's into his cratedigging vibe, not kill it and still get the interview done. you did a great job.
I was thinking the same thing; respect
True
I watch this interview at least once a week it seems. We need more Madlib interviews, I know he isn't into them but aspiring producers and fans absorb every bit of knowledge we can get out of him.
I love the positive vibes and research done on madlib before hand. This interview was dope af
R.I.P J Dilla
So true , J Dilla , Madlib , mfdoom ... safe to listen
I love Madlib's humbleness
Humility
hes a very laidback guy. probably all the weed hes smokes
first things he grabs, Sun Ra..
Check out my Sun Ra cover: ua-cam.com/video/PA-rQX1tCWA/v-deo.html
U damn right know madlib was only there to yoink some rare records lmao
Madlib: "That's dope"
French subtitles: "C'est excellent..."
Zach Keller Well, yes that’s what it translates as, just like he could have said « that’s brilliant »
Merci radiofrance, nos impots servent aussi à ça!
Hes like the Miles Davis of Hip hop. Id say J dilla is John Coltrane
Damn that's very accurate
Perfect
he is just a thief like all other hip hop 'producers' ....first seconds of that sun ra tune is way more impressive than the whole madlib discography....I wouldn't go so far and compare him to jazz musicians as he isn't a musician... Just a guy with a sampler and a bit of music knowledge
@@blankowvsingt You just proved you don't know shit.... Have you ever heard of yesterdays new quintet? He played every instrument on those records.... Man just STFU....
Greg Turner there were some samples those records... but madlib can play hella instruments, knows how to fit music together, knows every aspect of digging for records, and most importantly knows how to put together a dope track
This lady is the coolest interviewer ever
Real shit, i fuck with her
YESSSSSSSS!!!!
European.
She is beyond awesome. I love myself some her. ❤️
hell nah so awkward doesnt know beats
This ladies and gentleman is how you conduct an interview. Never seen Madlib so in his element!
this man has forgotten more music than I will ever know, truly a legend
This is my favorite video on the internet
En plus d'être un des meilleurs musiciens sur cette planète, Madlib est super humble, vraiment big respect !
When you listen to madlib or a j Dilla beat, it's as if time freezes around you and you go into another world. The moment you take your headphones off, you want to go back to that world. Their music is on another level and I'm glad to experience this journey while madlib is still hear. RIP King Dilla.
🙏
The chemistry between the two is pretty cool. I would want to an hour of these two hanging, eating food and talking music.
I have more respect for Madlib than ever before after hearing him give props to Can. This guy truly knows his music.
+Matt Jarvie would you doubt a man with 4 Tonnes of vinyl truly knows his music
who doesnt know Can..and of course Madlib would. Its not like its some obscure band man.
Stones Jones You honestly can’t expect the majority of people to say they know Can if you asked lol
Tour De Force who’s cane?
Madlib knows about all music even drum n bass, a music historian
Often in these interviews the interviewer doesn't' know their shit or is just plain cringey but honestly, the woman in this smashed it. Big up to all the people involved in the production of this interview - a really enjoyable and informative watch!
She is cringey
Fantastic interview Laura, I don't think I have ever seen Madlib be so open and relaxed, he is so painfully shy!
Madlib and J Dilla have brought so much light into my life for the last 15 years or so, I love the fact I can always play there music till the day I die! Rest in beats DILLA ! Thankyou Madlib 🙏
Goddamn, this one of the best interviews I’ve seen. The way they just sit and listen to the music really makes me smile harder than a mf.
Their reaction at 5:36 was so priceless!
To see Madlib react to it. You could tell it was proud for him, especially cause he's so laid back.. Love that shit, love that feeling!
Kind of cool how much he digs soundtracks. Fantastic Planet is one massive trip of a movie.
Laura: “Why for you was J Dilla the best beat maker ever?”
Madlib: *Proceeds to put record on turntable*
I've watched this about 30 times now... I'll be back for 31 tomorrow. SALUTE!
Today is my first time 🤗
I would love to be in that place listening to so much music! Such A Dream.
SHES SO CUTE!
Hipstoprockathon NO
😐
Awesome interview... catching Madlib in his natural habitat!!!
She is adorable lol. Such good energy between these two
We were playing piano at Porcelain in Ridgewood, Queens at an afterparty for Madlib's show in Brooklyn. He told us, "you sound like Sun Ra. you play weird". We love Otis and Sonny. Thank you for keeping us inspired!
11:11 is such a magical moment. Once in a generation does an artist come along who's mastery of their craft cannot be described in words, only through the art they create
Stay loose....keep it raw....and bang ya drums!!!!!
That shit is deep....
That has touched me so.... much.
real
best part, I sampled it
"bang ya drums out sometimes"
this girl kills me when she dances
She enjoys the music too. That type of music can bring the best out of people, rhythm or not. Good music is good for the soul.
pretty cool to see the lady into the music as much as madlib (if not a lil more lol)
That vynil collection right there is crazy, and the records they picked were great.
Damn that ending with Dilla's "Think Twice" made me tear up.
Melvin Peebles came to my school to inspire us and he did just that , never knew that's where Madlib got that sample ! toast.
there are very few, rare opportunities to see true masters at work. this is one of those times. absolutely invaluable
Always good to see a new Madlib interview, this one made me happy.
Madlib is ahead of our time! Living legend status!
11:18 when they start talking about J-Dilla I get goose bumps 😂 love me some Dilla and Madlib too.
Madlib is a livin legend and Laura is so soulful and awesome! Great vid.
Thanks for this video, got to see Madlib going through records.
Great job.
We miss you Laura!
high vibes in this hi-fi interview! real great look into the mind of Madlib! thanks!!!
Madlib un musicien talentueux mon mentor merci pour cet excellent partage 👍👍👍
Rare to interview someone that an introvert.... but great interview now everyone run and get every record he talked about
He may have something cooking up, as he said before he had numerous leftovers & unused material so I guess we (as his fans & listeners) shall stay tuned for what he has, madlib is a blessing!
one of my favorite video on this planet
I'm just seeing this...that was 2013. It's 2019. All in timing. Dope interview.

Thanks for making this happen!
Oh this dude is my new fav producer. He was down with the Liks. My favorite West Coast group. Matter of fact my fav trio in all of hip hop and I’m from DC.
Dope interview
