@BlueworldTV Awesome! Curious, how do the habs work with the gas being used? Do divers just sit there breathing off their reg or are they prepped with stage bottles?
In those little habitats (upside-down water containers), the diver usually stays on the rebreather. The habitat is just about getting warm and being out of the water a little. Also allows you to have a snack and take the mask off for comfort. But there is no provision for refreshing the air/gas in the habitat so you need to stay on the rebreather.
@@BlueWorldTV Thanks! I'm naturally a nose breather out of water. When you're on your loop, is it okay to exhale out of your nose? Would doing so save you time on your scrubber? All of our cave diving vides contain a warning (this one has it at 0:25). But honestly when you think about it, we make scuba diving videos. Scuba diving without proper training, even diving on a reef, is dangerous. If you go by that criteria, probably half the videos on UA-cam should come with a warning. We specifically DO NOT make our videos to seem like training, because they are not. I'm not qualified to teach scuba, nor is UA-cam a place to learn such a thing. We have scuba instructors for that!
Awesome video. My son and I didn’t see a guide line…was there one? Sometimes they are hard to see maybe we missed it. Or is it not needed in this particular cave?
Yes, there most certainly is. I probably should have pointed that out in the video. They use stainless steel (!) guideline in this cave because the flow is so strong during the rainy part of the year that the water just rips traditional cave line right out. Unfortunately, that means that divers have to carry cutters that are capable of snipping the line in case of entanglement. Anton actually has something that could best be described as small bolt cutters on his rig.
Another awesome video! Question, here you had 5 minutes of decompression. Do you find that a large group of divers skip the decompression times if they are say 10 minutes or less, or would you venture to guess most decompress no matter how short the interval is? As a very amateur diver who hasn't dived in years, I understand the importance, but I am curious how many people follow the rule as "to the t" as you and the crew do, like the 5 minute decompression we saw in this video. Thanks!
Actually, I would say that the vast majority of divers are afraid of getting bent and do longer decompression than necessary (or safety stops on top of decompression, or safety stops even when no decompression is obligated). Slow ascents and safety stops are drilled into divers from the beginning. I don't know anyone that would intentionally skip a deco stop or even a safety stop.
I've often wondered, what happens to your bubbles after they gather on the roof of an underwater cave? Do they just slowly dissolve out into the water over time?
Great video - any info on why the Poseidon RB was in Rec config? I’m not a cave diver but isn’t an ability to do shutdowns etc important? I.e having it in tech config?
@Steve on the tech setup your cylinders are inverted so you can reach the valves, and you have manual add for O2 and Dil - on the rec setup the valves are pointing up (like in this video)
@Steve No problem, sharing is caring! So Poseidon is pretty unique in that it has a ‘rec’ mode. Most CCRs are tech only so would confuse most people who have ever dove a CCR. The rec version of the Poseidon requires much less training and there is no ability to fly the unit manually, in rec mode your only option is to bailout. That’s why I was curious using that config for cave diving, I’d like the option to stay on the loop as long as possible 😂
I'm curious why this cave didn't appear to have a guide line in most places, at one point it looked like there was one but for most of the dive I couldn't find one. My guess is that it's because of how little silt is in the cave or the more likely guess that there is one but it's just not visible in the video
It had a guideline. In fact, they use stainless steel guideline in this cave because the flow is so string during the wet season that regular cave line gets destroyed. Anton has to carry wire cutters just in case of entanglement.
In some of these Portuguese case, the "line" is actually stainless cable. The reason is because in the rainy season, the flow is so powerful that it just rips conventional cave line right out of the cave. So Anton has to carry cable cutters in case someone gets caught. However, it's a lot harder to get caught in a steel cable than a line.
I am really curious about those decompression bells. I wanna know how does somebody pass the time sitting in one of those for twelve hours, and how they are kept full of oxygen. And what kind of work are they doing down there that requires such long decompression afterwards? Just exploring?
Typically the person in there stays on his/her rebreather (doesn't breathe the air inside). The air inside is just for warmth, and maybe having a chance to sip a hot chocolate.
@@BlueWorldTV @BlueWorldTV you gotta try it, tho you need your own team and equipments to dive since diving industry here is pretty immature but also you can bump into some of the rare species to dive with since most of the places are still unexplored. For rare species I know of are Whale sharks in the coast, Dugong population, Irrawaddy river shark and river dolphins. Forrest Galante travels here a couple of times in search of new or endangered species as well. I'm hoping a decent documentary would come out about some local species we don't know of since we aren't quite capable to research and exploring ourselves yet 😬

It's hilarious that you noticed that. Todd was setting up his computer right before the dive in a rush (which you should NEVER do!) and he managed to screw that up. Fortunately, he had analog gauges on his tanks so he could check the tank pressures the low-tech way.
@BlueWorldTV of course! Blame todd! I actually met him in st louis when he premiered your ancient caves movie, great guy and great movie! I watched it several times.
FYI when you mentioned something about Europe you must have missed pronounced it it was actually taking place in Portugal and there was the Portuguese cave
12 hrs of decompression, just to explore an endless cave with just rock formation - makes no sense to me (it's not something I can understand), especially all the work that goes into it

Forrest Galante travels here a couple of times in search of new or endangered species as well. I'm hoping a decent documentary would come out about some local species we don't know of since we aren't quite capable to research and exploring ourselves yet 😬
👍
How old were you when you got certified? I didn’t get certified yet but I really want too.
I didn't get certified until I was about 20.
@@BlueWorldTV ok
Any plans to go to the Philippines? A combo Jonathan/Justin dive would be amazing - he's such a great filmmaker - ua-cam.com/video/hp56tXgmHKU/v-deo.html
Justin is cool and I have watched his channel. In fact I just saw his muck video come up on facebook.
Hey guys , why didnt you use the KISS ?
This was filmed before our training. Our episodes are usually released about 6 months after filming because we have so many in production. We rushed to release the KISS training episode because we were so excited about it.
@@BlueWorldTV thanks for the reply :) cant wait to see you guys making no bubbles 🔥
You said you don’t have access to nitrox, why not?
We were in the middle of nowhere with no nearby dive shop. Anton brought his own compressor to fill tanks.
Cave Dive inside a Cave Dive.
Lovely cave, but I'd hate to spend HOURS decompressing!!!
Wouldn't carbon do the job, with the heavy equipment?
Or can you not dive with carbon air tanks?
I have never seen carbon fiber tanks used in diving but fire fighters use them.
Bro sub he did this vid like 4 hours carrying supplies❤
ua-cam.com/video/5y4l9bNTqp0/v-deo.html You have T1 in both display positions! Great cave video!
I watched it several times.
hey could i just talk to jonathan bird
I answer the comments just about every day!
FYI when you mentioned something about Europe you must have missed pronounced it it was actually taking place in Portugal and there was the Portuguese cave
12 hrs of decompression, just to explore an endless cave with just rock formation - makes no sense to me (it's not something I can understand), especially all the work that goes into it
It's all about finding something new that nobody has ever seen before, or discovering the source of the water, or connecting it to another cave. Thrill of discovery.
@@BlueWorldTV I hear loud and clear... I rather see fish
