@@CanadianTransitFan The reason was because that area often was closed during Canada Day celebrations and it was also closed just temporarily to allow a world leader's limo to pass through. This made commutes from Gatineau to Ottawa very difficult and STO drivers say they absolutely hated that.
Technically, Ottawa doesn't have a "subway", and instead has an lrt. However, the service operated is very much like a subway, with full grade separation and very high frequencies. In downtown, Line 1 has 3 large, underground stations that are very similar to famous subways across the planet, like NYC. Compared to many capital cities, though, Ottawa is pretty small.
